Totally. Christmas should be about and for the kids, let them enjoy the day as much as possible. Aside from that it has little else going for it.

All my family like it a lot, all that getting together and all that and i grew up having great Christmases. Just over the years all the sparkle comes off and it became a right pain.

I detest immensely the idea that everyone has to be happy, smiley, and for 1 day a year be something they are not for the rest of the year. I’m not a social person, i’m not a talker, as posted elsewhere i also have a dislike for family gatherings (i attend very very few). It’s basically everything i am not wrapped up in 1 day.

Well, that’s exactly the reason why we only celebrate it with my parents, siblings and grandma. Before my grandpa died, we always used to celebrate it at my grandparents’ house, with the whole family of my mom’s side. At one point, after divorces and many fallouts, it became very forced. I never really noticed that, as I was only what, 11? at the time. But now we spend it with just us, it feels a lot better. I do appreciate it if everyone is friendly. My brother once caused a fight and that really ruined it for some reason. Christmas is just something..magical to me. And that’s not even because of the presents. We don’t do presents, we have Sinterklaas for that. I’m not a very talkative person either, I can be very quiet, but I live for Christmas.

Anyway, I really appreciate it that you talk so much on here, like others said. Your comments often make me think or laugh. You’re awesome.

When you’re an adult, Christmas becomes “movie day.”

Definitely. Last year I saw The Grinch (the one with Jim Carey) and the latest Muppets film for the first time and both were really good.

And cooking with music blasting out.

This could turn into a homage to Monty Pythons Spanish Inquisition.

One of my most vivid adult Christmas memories is of seeing Kenneth Branaugh’s “Hamlet” on Christmas Day. It was a 9am showing and, unfortunately, most of the audience couldn’t be bothered to shower before heading out to the screening. This became painfully obvious when we re-entered the theater after admission and the place smelled like a gym. :-P

Also, just being silly, as I exited the theater, I said out loud to the audience waiting for the next showing, “I can’t believe they all died!” just to see if someone would get upset with me for spoiling the ending to, y’know, a Shakespearean tragedy, and predictably, someone did. A few laughed, though. a-hard-days-night-george-10

As an aside, I hope Monty Python brings a reunion tour to the States.

Cracking sketch. Would be incredibly easy to have a thread of just Monty Python clips.

I have Monty Python Sings on cd which is actually a damn good collection of some of their best songs. To bring this thread back around to topic i will add that Christmas in Heaven (from The Meaning of Life) is awful.

Nice one.  Many years ago I took a winter trip to Europe and had Christmas in Paris and New Year’s Eve on the Riviera – awesome stuff.

To be truthful, I was wondering what the people who decorate Paris for events were thinking. Oh, well, they are shiny and sparkly. They probably look better in person. If I looked hard enough after drinking some French wine, I could probably find Paul’s face in there somewhere. The picture is on the official Champs Elysses Facebook page. At least it’s better than this other odd decoration from their FB page. I think these change colour.

I had a friend who went to Paris for Christmas one year. She couldn’t enjoy it due to the cold. But, I think it would be magical to see dressed up for Christmas. It’s magical anyway, so a sprinkling of Christmas decor would make it a true fantasy land.

Ah. It might be helpful if i read posts properly and don’t take Paris as Paul. I honestly thought the post said “Paul is dressed up for Christmas” and could not for the life of me see it. Now it makes sense. As George said on the BBC  “…if you weren’t so thick”.

I normally wait til after Thanksgiving to go full Christmas mode, but yesterday I could not help myself. Zag and I were baking our Thanksgiving pies and the whole house just smelled so festive. I let down my defenses and finally played some holiday music.

‘Tis the season in our household…

I normally wait until after Thanksgiving as well. I suppose its because of what I’m use to when I lived with my parents. The weekend after Thanksgiving is when they put up the tree and outside decor. With stores pushing the Christmas season now, I see people putting up Christmas decor right after Halloween. The soft music radio station that plays nothing, but Christmas music beginning right after Halloween. It just throws me off going into Christmas mode so soon.

We don’t put up our stuff (two small trees and a wooden light up reindeer from IKEA), until the 20th or so. I’ve noticed a lot of houses with them all up already. It feels a bit strange considering it’s not even december yet.

Moving along in our God given ways, safety is sat by the fire/Sanctuary from these feverish smiles, left with a mark on the door.

Our local soft rock station does the same thing, as they’ve started with the all Christmas music format THREE WEEKS ago. You can only take the Chipmunks’ Christmas song so many times… a-hard-days-night-ringo-13

Gotta keep the revenue rolling in to the stores – everything is so commercial these days.  Hey, don’t get me wrong, our retailers need to make money as well – but the incessant hard sell gets a bit much at times.

There are only so many versions of White Christmas, Sleigh Ride, and Winter Wonderland one can listen to; furthermore, there are only so many times I can hear Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. A week or so ago I heard like a R&B version of Wonderful Christmastime which left some of Paul’s vocals in. It was very strange to say the least.a-hard-days-night-ringo-14
