(note: on the 1st November 2014 meanmistermustard merged three additional Christmas threads into here, they’re details are as follows:
Posts 2 -> 16: ‘Happy X-Mas (War Is Over)’
Posts 17 -> 44: ‘Christmas Breaks’
Posts 45 -> 123: ‘Favourite Christmas Song’.
Post 124 was originally the reply immediately after what has become post 1.)
Take 2 (‘feel good – just put in an A”) (as the first effort failed to post and had to start again).
So its Decemeber 1 as i type here where i am. And to bring some festiveness, hopefully, thought about having a christmas flavoured thread (it may last about as long as snow in Hawaii).
Anything christmassy goes but to hopefully get some momentum.
Are you in the christmas spirit yet or even fed up with hearing Jingle Bells for the 500th time already?
I’d not heard 1 christmas song before starting this thread.
Are you doing anything special, do you have any family traditions that are done each year (hanging stockings up, watching a movie etc)?
When younger my family used to wait until around 11am before opening the presents and even then it would only end at around 1/2 3 in the afternoon (breakfast, preparing dinner, the christmas walk always came first). It would be one present at a time and there were 8 of us in total so it took ages. It was great fun even with arguements. And of course the games in the evening, and the arguing as well.
What are your favourite christmas songs, the ones you look forward to hearing/playing?
My top 10 are (in no order):
Happy Xmas (War Is Over) – John and Yoko (more meat to the normal bare bones christmas, it makes you think, well it does me).
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – Kendall Payne (a trully stunning rendition).
Driving Home For Christmas – Chris Rea.
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! – Dean Martin.
The Christmas Song – Nat King Cole.
Sleigh Bells – The Ronettes.
Keeping The Dream Alive – Münchener Freiheit.
Winter Wonderland – Doris Day.
Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee.
A Winter’s Tale – Queen.
And not to forget the Beatles christmas messages. If you havent heard the 7 messages recorded between 1963 and 1970 they are on youtube and are really funny, going from heavily scripted to plays to individual bits and pieces. Well worth the listen.
Edit (1st November 2014):
Three other christmas threads that are out there in the wild expanse of the forum that folk might find of interest in the build up to the festive period are:
"I told you everything I could about me, Told you everything I could" ('Before Believing' - Emmylou Harris)

Glass Christmas
I Told You Bought Strawberry Fields
The Place where only Christmas is real
Hang Out With Lady Madonna
While wrapping gifts for Magic Alex
If you want a Crazy Bash
Head over To The Fool On The Hill
he`ll Get the party Started
And The Rest is Up To you
And Now I say
Enjoy The Holidays
Don`t Hold a Grudge
As Time Goes By
And let Em In
As This Is The Best time Of Year

And I say, From Me To You
Have A Smashing Time All

I know it's barely even Thanksgiving, but it's not too late to think about Christmas.
Too late? Don't tell me you've joined the “put-'Stocking-Stuffer'-signs-on-all-sale-items-and-start-playing-'Jingle Bells'-on-the-radio-the-day-after-Labor-Day” bandwagon!

*whew!*
I thought I'd lost you….
Nah, my mom's been asking us about what we think others in our family want. And she's asked the kids to start hinting to my dad that she wants Anthology.
