Doubt any posts were deleted as why would anyone who responded delete their own work (aside from paulsbass who tried to delete his entire existence)?

Holy crap indeed! I don’t know if I ever saw that nasty attack. Why did that not disappear during the great Paulsbass Purge? Joe keeping it for posterity/historical reasons maybe?
(muses further) I wonder: if he had posted any Beatles Dreams, would they have still been extant in the wayback caches and whatnot that you guys relied on?

He forgot quite a few, as it happens.

This whole thing makes me wonder why the *9*s and *17*s were disabled. Joe Why?

That was a spam filter that made you add random numbers every time you posted. I’m guessing it was just found inconvenient.
The 9s and 17s were when their numbers added up to relevant, Beatley numbers.
And I assume he just forgot to delete that post, it’d be hard to manually remove all traces of your existence. I still haven’t clicked Bulldogs link, but apparently there are more!

I clicked on it, but I haven’t had time to read it yet! *9* is from Revolution 9 and *17* is from I Saw Her Standing There – how come no one came up with more?

People came up with numbers for George and Ringo but people though that was too much and just stuck with 9 and 18

Way back in the early days, in a bid to stop spam and the rest, before posting you were asked to fill in a CAPTCHA box with the number from a random sum but eventually Joe took it off during a test to see if the forum would be hit with spam without it, it wasn’t so it never returned. You can see it being discussed here (posts 1 – 5) and a Zig post answering a question on it.

People did get creative with whatever numbers they were dealt if they felt like it – I’ve seen Zig posting “(One and one and one) = 3” for example. But it became kinda tiring and contrived after awhile, I think. In my case, for some reason, it took me an oddly long time to get my first ‘9’ and I made a big deal of that first one and the next one (I got two in a row!); but after however many months I could barely even be bothered to type the extra two characters. (Unless it was a passionately argued post, in which case a “#9: The universe agrees!” was the standard capper.) 9 was the original; and I have no idea why 17 caught on after that – it could as easily have been 8 (i.e. number of days in a week), neither one being a really “iconic” Beatlenumber
Now let me tell you kids about the 1970s… Our parents would smoke in the car while we hopped around from the front seat to the back without seatbelts! We used to brush our teeth with Kool-Aid!…

Wow, this was really a long time ago, and I forgot that post indeed.
Reading it now, I’m not proud of it, and I wasn’t that proud of it back then, although I did feel like I REALLY had to be HONEST about the musical talent of this guy.
But there was no need to be THAT harsh, and I hope that you believe me when I tell you that I did write him a personal message, telling him not to take it too personally. I was also getting worried that I’d attacked someone who might be mentally ill, thus explaining the likes, maybe from friends who thought he was doing great for his condition, and I asked him if that was the case, in that case I’d honestly apologize.
I never got a reply, so I guess I just forgot about it…
That doesn’t change the fact that I did write these words, and, as I said, I’m not proud of them and I wish I had deleted this one more than most of the other posts.
But it’s not nice to see people judging me from this post – because that’s just a very small part of me, and not what I’m usually like.
Most people here reduce me to some kind of freak who always tried to be right. They ignore the fact that there was a great number of users who were thankful for my input.
And I DID make peace on that “infamous” thread, several times in fact, and somehow people keep ignoring the fact that there were other users who kept stirring the flame… Of course it’s always easier to have a “villain”…
I really wish people would get over all that, stop carrying grudges towards me and making jokes – wasn’t I the one supposed to be impolite and immature? It doesn’t look good on you [*thinks of several users] either, if you’re being judgemental and mean.
I mean, this was 2014, but there are even threads from 2016 still mentioning old stuff.
Let it go!

I don’t know why anybody would think this thread is funny. I just read through it and the whole thing made me really sad and it just kept getting worse. I also don’t appreciate people calling me a Nazi. I don’t discriminate against any particular race of humans; I find that almost all humans are equally worthless.
EDIT: and Paulsbass, I always enjoyed your posts and I found most of them to be very well thought out and passionately written.
