I like Billy (got his Greatest Hits and a coupla others) but I LOVE Attila! For clarification:

GREAT album! Never mind what some know-nothing at Allmusic says.
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I really enjoy his early stuff. The Piano Man album is very good, with my favorite track on it being Captain Jack.
One of my all-time favorite songs is New York State of Mind.
Curse you, RedLennon! Looks like another visit to Amazon.com is imminent.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

I remember seeing a lot of him on MTV growing up. I still love Allentown and I still love Pressure (especially the video), but I kind of look at him as I do say, James Taylor: I don't doubt their talent, but they both don't do anything personally for me.

I've loved Billy Joel longer than the Beatles (my parents were college-aged in the late 70s, so they missed the whole 60s rock genre, sadly). I grew up with Billy and Billy grew up with the Beatles… And one thing I noticed rather recently was the lyrics in Piano Man…
Now John at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my drinks for free
And he's quick with a joke and he'll light up your smoke
But there's some place that he'd rather be
[…]
Now Paul is a real estate novelist
Who never had time for a wife
And he's talkin' with Davy, who's still in the Navy
And probably will be for life
Coincidence? The most fun thing I've read in any of the Beatles bio was about Billy Joel watching the Ed Sullivan show (which just celebrated its anniversary!) and thinking John looked utterly bored/uninterested during the early set that was mainly Paul singing.
And in the end
the love you take
is equal to the love
you make.
