I have a cowbell on hand in the instance that no one else ends up doing it, ‘cos it’s not particularly fair for me to hog two instruments unless necessary. I’m also waiting for a good time when I can ring it for two minutes straight without annoying anyone, so that might take a while…
Technically it should be a big fireman’s bell (£30 on ebay) like in the song, so if we want to be really picky we should be using one of those!

Offline Me and @The Hole Got Fixed did this great cover of Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band to compliment the cover of With A Little Help From My Friends . I did all 3 guitar parts on my Fender/Squier Stratocaster and he did everything else including the bass, drums, vocals, and French horns.

We completed the recording on December 29th 2017 but i didn’t check my gmail until yesterday so i didn’t get to hear the original mix until then. After hearing it i requested that the vocals are centered (he mixed them to the right because i asked for him to mix it like the original but The Beatles weren’t the best when it came to making stereo mixes) and then the song was complete and ready for all to see.

Offline If you don’t have a microphone, most phones have an in-built app to do that.
If you don’t have that, most computers have some way of recording.
If you can’t do that… 
I’ve got some time on my hands now, so I might record a shaker and some c’mons now.

Offline A quick mix here with a bit of woo and cmon and mucking about with eq. Really like the sound of this. When I get the new amp delivered I may muck about some more with a guide guitar and some amp reverb and pedals

Offline That mix is so much heavier, it’s great! The vocals just seem to get better and better with every mix.
But (and this may be reverse-bias, or whatever it’s called) personally I do think the shaker is a wee bit loud. Unless the cowbell will also be that loud, in which case, I’m happy with it!

Offline Yes my intention is to “balance” the shaker with the missing cowbells, tis a simple thing to lower it in the mix if needed, I just wanted it to be at a good level to start with. The “heaviness” is a trick I’ve come up with to avoid messing around with EQ too much: multiband compression. I’m lifting the sub and mids a bit, it might need some cleanup at the bottom later.

Offline I agree, the shaker’s definitely too loud. Otherwise it’s sounding better all the time!
I’ll try to redo the handclaps, hopefully they’ll work this time. (Such a shame they refused to render or whatever, as they did sound very good. )

Offline Monkey version 6 mix #1 I fixed bits of cowbell to match the original, pitch-shifted it down to E, cut the bottom and added some fairy dust at the top end and integrated it into the running mix. If it seems a little loud, that’s because until the end of the song it doesn’t have as much to cut through on the left panning (i suspect the original was mixed out where the gaps are).
The drums aren’t real, hint hint.

The shaker is much better in level in context of the cowbell!
And give me a break – I have to do the drums at school, and I’ve literally only just started school last week! I’m was hoping to record the drums in the next few days.

Offline More monkey! I played with the stereo to make it sound more like the White Album panning and other weird stuff. At this stage we just need more claps, cmons and some real drums cos i gotta redo the way reverb is on that. And I need to do a new bass part that does that weird stereo thing in the quiet bit, for this mix I cheated and did it with the guitar. The more I listen to that stereo mix of the original the odder it gets!

That mix sounds drastically closer to the White Album mix. Apart from some EQ on the guitar, what else did you do to make it sound the way it does compared to mix 6?
