Haha. Actually a pretty catchy song. I’ve never heard it before but I understand why its you feel a little guilty for liking it.

How did I completely miss these being announced? THEY’VE RELEASED THE SESSIONS FOR BOTH FRIENDS AND 20/20!!!Who wants to join me on a listening binge?
These were released around the same time as the sunshine tomorrow box set last year. I still didn’t even get the full collection. Oh god how am I supposed to survive the year with all of the Beatles, Dylan, and Beach Boys reissues?

I have been listening to the Friends one all day on repeat, but I’m saving 20/20 for tomorrow because I also want some time to listen to/remember John today.
The highlights of the compilation for me are the backing tracks (especially Little Bird and Transcendental Meditation) which are absolutely gorgeous on this, and the demo of Passing By with its original lyrics gives that song a whole new but sadder meaning.I will say I am disappointed they didn’t remix the finished product like they did with Wild Honey, nor include any live tracks from the Maharishi Tour, but I’m hoping they might follow this up with the latter soon like they did with the Lei’d in Hawaii tracks last year.

The follow up double set last year was where the real treasures were. I too am hoping they follow up with a Live collection and Studio collection, released in a more complete and more organized format.

Ah, great! Ta, @The Hole Got Fixed!
Now that’s figured out, who’d be interested in joining me in forming a Beach Boys friendly rivalry group against Beatlebug’s Bowie takeover of the forum?

Never!
(I’ve only heard one Beach Boys song, I need to change that…)

I’m in! Though I’d probably need to get some more Beach Boys as I only have the Unsurpassed Masters bootleg…
Only one of the big ’60s groups I’ve never totally connected with, at least not enough to go all in…

You definitely need to change that I think most fans would agree that Pet Sounds is their best album, so I would start there. It was inspired heavily by Rubber Soul and in turn inspired Sgt Pepper ‘s a lot, so I think you’ll find a lot that you enjoy. It’s a similar mood to Revolver tracks like Here There And Everywhere and For No One .

50yearslate, SgtPeppersBulldogI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Listen to the Today! Sessions from UM and hear the way Brian builds Please Let Me Wonder. Its a great listening experience that allows to you get a whole new feel for the Beach Boys music. As I know you’re a big fan of sessions, the Beach Boys are an absolute goldmine.

Anyways, anybody else here excited for the next upcoming set of archive release(s)? I believe this one focuses on the 1969/70 sessions for Sunflower, as well as some of the material that went on to be considered for the unreleased Landlocked album or officially released on Surf’s Up in 1971. So far, only this three track EP has been put out but the full release will come out sometime in January.

Latest news is the Brian Wilson documentary Long Promised Road is coming out soon! I read a few days ago it’s getting premiered at the Tribeca Festival in April but will get a wider release later in the year. For you newbies wanting to get into Brian and The Boys , I’d recommend seeing this when it’s out and/or watch the excellent 2014 movie Love & Mercy. The latter gives you a great glimpse into his role in the group and both Pet Sounds and the SMiLE sessions, but also his is own struggles with mental health and a certain notorious Dr. Landy.
