Bad news, fellow Beach Boys fans. Apparently David Marks is in the hospital.
Mike Love just posted this via Facebook:
“Tonight after getting off stage at Eastern Kentucky University, I called home, and Jacquelyne told me the news that David Marks was in the hospital.
I want David to know that we are all sending him our prayers, good vibrations and wishes for a complete recovery.
I’d like to remind him that I think it would be a great time to practice his TM.
The deeper rest will help him heal.
Peace and Love, Mike Love”
Get well soon.

Good news.
He probably wanted to get away from Mike’s TM practice – so maybe it worked in a roundabout way 🙂

Yup he has something… But not quite much (in my opinion) . I liked when he plays and sings “God only knows” at the piano, that was really great.

Happy fiftieth birthday, Pet Sounds.
My most favorite Beach Boys album, which pre-dates me by twelve years. In fact, a LOT of the music I enjoy is from the 60s. And I wasn’t even around until ’78. I was alive for two years while all four Beatles were alive, anyways =)
A lady at work told me I must be an “old soul” because I have such a soft spot for 60s music.
Can’t see that as a bad thing now, can I?
“I guess I just wasn’t made for these times….”

The question is, Are you alive out there?
It don't take brains, Just heart and soul
I think, therefore I rock 'n roll.

I was born in July ’65, over a year after the Beatles came to America. So I was a wee young ‘un. Literally. A babe.
Pet Sounds came out 10 months after I was born.I discovered it as a pre teen, on my own. I don’t remember my parents owning the album. They very well may have, it’s just not one I remember being played other than the singles, maybe on the radio. I guess I gravitate the most toward the music of the 60s / 70s because it’s what I know. It’s instilled in me, and it’s like my security blanket, my comfort. Familiar, happy, warm.

Well I’m from ’94, and most of the music I love is from the 60s as well. What does age matter?
My parents played a lot off Pet Sounds. God Only Knows was played at my grandpa’s funeral. It’s high on the list of my all time favourites.
This album is one of my biggest favourites ever as well. I truly think it’s one of the greatest albums ever made. There’s not a single bad song on that album, although I’m not really a fan of I Know There’s An Answer.
I’ve always quite liked the Beach Boys , but it wasn’t until recently that I started getting into them. My younger brother started to become obsessed with them a few months ago, and spread it around like some infectious disease, constantly sending me interviews, live material and constantly singing stuff.
They were a pretty darn good band, especially in the 60s. After that it’s really cherrypicking songs.
The Wilsons were a tragic bunch though.

The Beach Boys ‘ Mike Love Tells All In His New Book Good Vibrations: My Life As A Beach Boy
In the book “Good Vibrations: My Life As A Beach Boy” (or in the audiobook by the same name which Mike narrates), Mike Love tells his own story for the first time, of how a sheet-metal apprentice became the quintessential front man for America’s most successful rock band, singing in more than 5,600 concerts in 26 countries. Love also narrates the stories behind his lyrics for pop classics such as “Good Vibrations” (which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year), “California Girls,” “Surfin’ USA,” and “Kokomo.”
When we all listened to the Beach Boys , every conjured image was that of charmed lives, happy go lucky existence, carefree life, beaches and sunshine. Mike’s journey was for the most part happy, but the challenges that came along with the Beach Boys fame was not always so
Both the book and audiobook have been on the New York Best Seller List since a week after release. Check out an audio preview here. Get it at Penguin Random House Books online (Hardcover, AudioBook or eBook), Amazon (Kindle, Hardcover or Paperback Book ), Walmart (Hardcover Book) or Barnes & Noble (Hardcover Book).

Brian’s memoir came out around the same time. I don’t feel like reading two Beach Boys bios so close together so I chose to pick up Brian’s
