Is anybody watching the world series? Its a huge deal if the cubs win. Maybe people have become tired of the sport, but I think it is very exciting.

I swore I wouldn’t watch it because it would cause me to have a heart attack. I’ve been a Cubs fan since 1990 when I went to Chicago on my college senior trip and went to Wrigley Field. I’ve been there several times since…even an opening day. The game is on in the other room in the house. I can hear it. My heart hasn’t stopped racing yet. I hope I get through this night. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…………………………….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was a huge baseball fan in the early 1990s when I first moved to Boston (I didn’t follow the game when I was kid, and in 1986 I rooted for the Mets). I attended many games, and had a share of season tickets with a small group. I felt that my fandom was properly baptized by the 2003 ALCS, and I marveled at the reward that was the 2004 Red Sox. There’s still a few outs left in this game, but I’m feeling your pain and anxiety, @Ahhh Girl !

^Thanks for the tea and sympathy, @rickumali. I went to a game at Fenway when I was in Boston in the late 90’s. Nice park.
It is way past my bedtime. I hope this doesn’t go into extra innings.

And the Cubs win! As a Braves fan, I found the Cubs to be the easiest playoff team to route for in years. Great night.

I was born and raised on the near North Side of Chicago and grew up with baseball. Played in community leagues until I was 16, when a knee injury derailed things. Back in the 60’s, when I was 8-9 years old, my folks would pawn me, my brother and my cousin off on my Grandfather during summer vacation. He had a used furniture business downtown, just off Addison, only a few blocks from Wrigley. When we got under his feet, he’d pull out a roll, peel off and fill our hands with some dollars and tell us to go watch the game. We’d tear out and run full blast to the ballpark… back when such things didn’t raise eyebrows.
The Cubs have always been my team. Tonight, I am beside myself.

I’m beyond thrilled for the Cubbies!!
I was born and raised, grew up 40 minutes outside Chicago in Michigan City Indiana. Cubs games on my great grandpa’s transistor radio were an integral part of my childhood. I’m not a big sports fan, but I’ve always had a soft place in my heart for my “home team”. So proud of them!

My heart and mind couldn’t take it. When the Indians tied the score, I had to go to bed and wrestle my mind to sleep. If I had stayed awake and kept watching the game, I think I would have had a heart attack and/or stroke.
My younger brother died in a car wreck on his 26th birthday. We buried him in a Cubs t-shirt and Cubs baseball cap along with a Cubs flag. I’m glad we had him dressed properly for this series. If there is life after death, I hope he could rejoice in this win for the Cubbies.

I am an avid fan of the game. There have been times when I brought up sports here in the forum, but those conversations quickly fizzled out. Nice to see some fellow baseball fans here.
Congrats to the Cubbies and their fans. This was a tremendous World Series and both teams were evenly matched – each team scored a total of 27 runs. The pitching and defense were very sharp until, oddly enough, this last game. Go figure.
Long live baseball! Only three months until Spring Training 2017!! Woo-hoo!!!

Can someone explain to me why the hell watching sports is considered so enjoyable and why people like LeBron James can make 30 billion a year, I think it’s stupid that watching sports is as popular as it is because I think it would make more sense to just play the sport.

Isn’t that like asking why we listen to music when we can create our own?

Well you could say the same thing about listening to music. Why do people like listening to music so much when they could just make their own music?

Good point, I guess it’s just that I don’t like watching sports. There’s an interesting parody of this on the TV show Dinosaurs.

Ronald Acuna Jr. is making his debut for the Atlanta Braves today.
He got a hit and scored a run! Hopefully some fellow baseball fans can get in on the discussion on the season.
