I am left with Ebay as my sole choice as Amazon ship doesn’t ship to my country. My country is notorious for its outrageous and incredibly long customs process (A stylus from South Korea took 2 weeks to arrive on EXPRESS!) . Luckily I’ve lost nothing yet. I already got a couple of records, turntables, cartridges you name it from Ebay. The trick is you have to pay with a credit card using Paypal. Ebay is owned by Paypal or vice versa I don’t remember. If the item doesn’t arrive within 45 days you could file a refund and you can settle it with the seller.

You also have to see the seller’s credentials and reviews plus the refund policies.

EDIT: Seeing as you are in Australia it’s a bit harder to find free shipping using Ebay. I am not sure if there’s an Amazon station Australia though.

Cheers (and my other half is from up your way *wave*)

I am now using ebay again, and my first two deliveries have made it worth my while – so far so good.  No Amazon here as yet.

I tried haggling *once* in a used record store 20+ years ago – the guy wanted $25 for Captain Beefheart’s Strictly Personal album, I asked if he’d take 20, he wouldn’t => I paid $25! (This store also had a “butcher sleeve” Y&T on display, for which they wanted $1500, iirc.)

I’ve never tried it again at “formal” stores, but will do so at garage sales or the like. And I’ll occasionally be offered lower-than-marked prices at stores where I get to know the employees.

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

Just think to yourself that you’re not actually doing anything wrong, you’re perfectly within your rights, so why feel worried about it? I’ve done it, and had money off stuff. Just don’t think about it too much, and you’ll be fine :D

As said before, how many times are you going to play this CD anyway?

Ah – couldn’t pluck up the nerve.

Never mind – ebay is working out just fine.  The problems I had with it before were with collectible game cards not being in the condition they were described, and there was no comeback.  It’s not such a problem with CDs, plus I’m saving so much it doesn’t really matter if I get the odd one not quite as advertised.

I have had 4 CDs arrive already in really good nick (“Free As A Bird “, “Flaming Pie “, “Driving Rain ” and “Flowers In The Dirt “) and can get that Ringo CD at around 1/3 the retail :)

^ Ah, that’s a shame. You can save yourself so much money (just look at how much Mark/mja said he saved at HMV upthread), and it’s much easier to walk into a shop than it is buying something online. I don’t really like ebay at all, and avoid it as much as I can as I once paid a lot of money for an ”original” Beatles album, only to find a few months later (once I was more knowledgeable) that it was a 70s reprint! blue-meanie

[SNIP]  One of the local stores has had a copy of Ringo’s ‘Liverpool 8’ on the shelves since release, at a price which reflects the exchange rate back then – it is currently listed at A$28, while the last couple of his albums are A$20.  [SNIP]

Oh, I also just bought ‘Chaos and Creation’ from them for A$27, also overpriced, which got me thinking about this.

Sorry to quote myself –

But – this has come full-circle – I have just ordered the CD that started all this from the Channel Islands for A$7 :)

I’m not sure what they are up to in the Channel but some of their prices are crazy (I paid A$4.30 for Run Devil Run ), my first two CDs just arrived from there – they only took about 10 days and included free postage.

I am now officially happy with ebay.

I just received six (6) packages in the mail filled with all sorts of goodies like the “Anthology” DVD set (episodes 1 and 2 begin tonight), the “Literary Anthology” book and 4 CDs (including “Standing Stone “, “Choba” or “Back In The USSR ” or whatever we are calling it today, and the 2 CDs I am having ‘fun’ opening as noted in a separate thread) :) :)

No wonder you’re having an “official happy day with ebay”. Delight in all the goodness there is to extract.apple01

Just had another 5 arrive in the last couple of days; 3 x George (Dark Horse , Extra Texture , Brainwashed), Time Takes Time from Ringo and Paul’s Pipes Of Peace :)

For those wondering, I under-estimated the stack of stuff I have to catch up on; rather than 50 shinies it is closer to 75 even though I have been ‘working’ hard at it!!

Ah, nice.  I have “Egg” on my wishlist since I missed out on the ebay auction for the boxed edition; my wishlist coincidentally has 9 items on it at the moment!

The list will have to wait a bit as my plastic is a bit strained – waiting for it to get (partly) paid off will hopefully give me a bit of time to catch up – though I did find just enough room on it to buy the Imagine DVD yesterday :)

Another bumper day, though one of the discs looks like a cheap Russian knock-off; I bought it from the USA to try and avoid that but it was a VERY Russian name on the sender label and it looks like the dodgy London Town I got – plus it’s missing the printed booklet.  Anyway, today’s mail brought a big Paul day:

The Ultimate Beatles Encyclopedia (which just made it here, badly packaged and had my address just barely clinging gamely to the book cover)

Red Rose Speedway (the possible knock-off)

Venus And Mars

Back To The Egg

Unplugged

^ Thanks Paul and friend.  The book has had some interesting browsing so far – and I have managed to make my own version of the missing booklet :)

Only 3 to go now then the card and I can recover, while I catch up on the silver mountain.  On the way are:

Wild Life , Speed of Sound and Pussy Cats.

The coda – Wild Life , Speed of Sound and Pussy Cats have arrived, so the ‘first wave’ has ended.

Now to try and get past 1969.  I was doing so well until the 1963 bootleg, Two Virgins , The Family Way , Wonderwall Music and Electronic Sound intruded.
