Obviously, on a site of Bowiemaniacs, I’m going to say…
…being totally unbiased, Hounds of Love by Kate Bush. Fascinating album, shaped something like AR (where much of it was recorded), in that the second side – The Ninth Wave – is a suite of connected songs. Low‘s a good album but I find Hounds of Love the more interesting, and the one I listen to on a more regular basis.

I would recommend the “Complete ‘In A Silent Way’ Sessions” box, because you know you’re gonna want to hear it all eventually!

Ah all these different takes are so convincing Maybe I’ll save up and buy them all in one go
But in all seriousness, I think Ron Nasty’s choice takes it. I’m honestly surprised Hounds of Love isn’t more popular with Beatles fans, to be honest. I feel like Kate comes from a similar place to Magical Mystery Tour , a kind of glorious yet wacky Britishness, and the Ninth Wave medley would certainly appeal to fans of Abbey Road and Paul’s solo work in that dimension. The first side contains a whole row of my favourite songs of hers, but the Ninth Wave is equally amazing, too.
EDIT: plus, I saw a new copy of it in a local shop recently, so hopefully I won’t have to order online through Amazon or similar.

Will no one vouch for Surfin’ Stevens?

Suf can wait. Carrie & Lowell is such an emotional, wintery album anyway, so not exactly what I need to be listening to in May.

Bought me a whole MESS of stuff today for the first time in awhile!
First of all, the one I bought with intent
And picked these up on impulse
Bo Diddley, “Have Guitar Will Travel” (1959) / “In The Spotlight” (1960)
The Roches (1979)
Fela Kuti, “Gentleman” (1973) / “Confusion” (1974),
and The Steve Miller Band’s “Brave New World” (1969)…and this last selection is somewhat Beatley, since it’s the album which marks the recording debut of Paul Ramon!

I found a gift card whilst I was cleaning up my room the other day, and so naturally I just went and blew it all on Bowie albums* because that’s what one does I’ll post an update when the CDs actually arrive.
*plus In Through The Out Door by Led Zeppelin. I wanted Presence, too, but it was too expensive for my limited budget. I did manage to get quite a lot of albums as it was, so I can’t complain.
