A great selection, Fiddy, but I’m still not sure why you’re choosing to go with latter day Bowie albums rather than his undisputed golden age.. Great to see Plastic Ono Band there though!

Three reasons:
1. They’re from around the same time as Reality, which is a perfectly wonderful album, so it’s reasonable to assume that these will also be wonderful.
2. They were both much cheaper than Aladdin Sane and Young Americans.
3. The Next Day has The Stars (Are Out Tonight).
I plan to get Aladdin and Young Americans next though.
Great to see Plastic Ono Band there though!
I’m finally doing my homework 😉

They’re here!
All except Ziggy, that is… hopefully it’ll be here tomorrow…
The case on Cloud Nine is cracked a bit, but it’s not too bad. (nowhere near as bad as the case on Reality!)

The cover art for POB looks so great. I want to go to wherever it was taken and just relax by that tree.

Indeed it is — ‘Achilles’ Last Stand’ is absolutely TERRIFYING and MASSIVE, and the rest of it is also very interesting. It’s some of Zepp’s most offbeat work, both rhythmically and in terms of accessibility.

I think Archilles’ Last Stand is probably the song that best represents just how incredibly Page, Jones and Bonham could play as a trio. Terrifying and massive covers it perfectly. Plant’s not on top form but who can blame him, he was recovering from a bike accident or something

Yes — the way they’re each playing a different groove and they lock together for oh-such-intensity and tension and chugging like a train on speed. Those drum/guitar breaks are the stuff of my late-night terrors, albeit in a good way. Makes me wonder what kind of demons Bonzo though he was beating down. Practically gave birth to the metal genre right there.

Car accident — he broke his leg and was confined to a wheelchair for most of the recording. And I think the strain in his voice adds something to his performance, at least for Achilles. His vox on the live versions, where he’s able to ‘sort of strut around a little bit’ more, are more powerful (also hair flips ).

a) David Bowie’s Low
b) Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love
c) Sufjan Steven’s Carrie & Lowell
d) Miles Davis’s In A Silent Way ?
