Ooh, you reminded me, I really need some Dylan. Especially Blood On the Tracks, one of my favourites.
Such a beautiful album. Really heartbreaking, but Dylan can put that into words better than anyone.

@Beatlebug if you really want to dive headfirst into The Who hear Quadrophenia all the way through. Not just in the background, get in a real listening mode and hear Quadrophenia. Has to be one of the greatest albums ever.

Holiday gifts; both on CD:
What’s the GVF album like? I’ve heard a few songs, and I really enjoyed When The Curtain Falls which has made my year-end playlist, but the Zep comparisons have been too much for me to ignore. I really hope that this first album was just them establishing their sound and that they will branch out in future, because they’re clearly very talented but it feels like a waste to have them just sounding like Zeppelin all the time.

Yeah, I know. I will eventually, always meant to, but I’m gonna try to finish Bowie and maybe at least some of Queen before I start a new project. The CD I got will hopefully prompt me to at least get casually educated before then.
I also got a crap tonne of Xmas money so I’ll probably go on an album-shopping spree soon

I’ve been saving that one! Mainly because I know I’m gonna cry a lot and I can only handle one big sad thing at once, i’ll have to wait until I’m not majorly depressed.

I understand where you are coming from. I have a couple of friends who are doing the same thing. It is going to be difficult either way but yes wait until you feel like you are ready.

I actually haven’t had a chance to listen to the whole thing yet, sorry, but I enjoy When The Curtain Falls (as you do). I saw them live a couple months ago, so I’ll make a post in the appropriate thread about it soon, and I’ll let you know my thoughts when I do get around to listening to it.

Agreed. Lazarus caught me immediately; Girl Loves Me has even piqued my interest in A Clockwork Orange.

I might recommend “…Sell Out”, even if only because it’s the most Pepperish. With a bit of Floyd, too, maybe…it’s a very 1967 record, in other words.
But their music evolved so much in ten years: hard to pick one!
(Albums you recently didn’t buy: I was visiting relatives in a city with a Sunrise Records, and looked at a discount Howlin’ Wolf collection and previously unreleased Coltrane…but ultimately hated the idea of buying something for myself while finalizing seasonal shopping on Dec. 24. Figured I’d bought enough records in that city already, as a teen in the 80s. :\ )

@TheWalrusWasBrian I was personally saving it for either the 8th or the 10th so you could wait till then too and do it with me? I’ve been saving it till I made sure I’d heard all of his prior studio albums, I wanted Blackstar to be the very last I heard, and it so happens that it took me exactly a year to work my way through — I believe I started this journey with his very first album on 8 Jan last year.
