Switched On Bach looks really good, classic music played using a Moog synthesizer.
Also, Necko, when was the last time you bought a cassette, I know you buy vinyl and CD’s practically all the time but what about cassettes, here’s a picture if any of you don’t know what I’m talking about.

The Philips Compact Cassette, more commonly known as the cassette or audiocassette was originally released in the 1960’s around the same time that the Stereo 8 or 8 track cartridge was released and were popular from the late 1970’s to the early 2000’s.

Yes, I know what cassettes are. After all, they did sell them commercially in my lifetime. I think they still make recordable ones, but I don’t know who is buying them.
I have a few (I can probably count the number of cassettes that I currently own on one hand), but I generally don’t bother with them. I don’t even currently own a cassette player. Cassettes are too easy to break or otherwise destroy. And since they’re not really a collectable thing, hardly anyone sells them anyway. I don’t really want them, but if I need another excuse not to buy cassettes…
I bought cassette copies of Rock And Roll Music Volume 2 and Appetite For Destruction a few years ago (2009, maybe?), and I think “Why the hell did I buy these?” whenever I look at them.

That was a whole trend in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Switched-On Bach was the first that spawned many sequels and imitators.
Back sometime in 2004 or 2005, my aunt left me what was left of her record collection. I got every American Beatles album, much of the solo stuff, a lot of Beatle-related novelty stuff, and a few records from other bands. One of the novelty records was this:
I haven’t listened to it in a long time, but I enjoyed it for what it was.

After almost 2 months of not finding any good records in the thrift stores, I scored 1;
All The Greatest Hits – Diana Ross.
I had most of the songs on a greatest hits cassette, but, uhm, that cassette broke.
I really wish there was record store in my town, this cat and mouse record finding game is really awful.

Just remember that record shops make you pay more because they actually know what they have, you won’t be getting Abbey Road for $1 there.

Yes you pay more, but you don’t have to spend 2 hours sifting through crappy, disgusting, and mildewy records to find one good album. I would rather pay 10$ for a clean, nice copy of AR, than 1.08$ for one that resembles road-kill and sounds awful.

If you think that it’s worth the expense, suit yourself. I think we can all agree on one thing though, if the type of vinyl you like to listen to is very old music by random artists, especially if you like classical, then Savers, Salvation Army, and Goodwill are there for you. If that’s the stuff that you like, then you’d love finding random stuff in the dollar record bin. The last time I was at Savers, I found Peter Paul And Mary, a 1960’s folk group.
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

A lot of the charity shops here in the UK (well, the ones I’ve been in) are jam packed with classical records, or records by singers who were popular in the British Isles during the 60s/70s (e.g. Tom Jones, Johnny Mathis, Max Bygraves, Des O’Connor, Harry Secombe), but they became irrelevant and out of fashion after a while. As for singles, mostly 80s groups and artists, but there are a few older/good things if you look (I’ve seen singles by Duane Eddy and The Shadows that I now resent not buying!)

Albums you HAVEN’T bought department…so, for the last several years I’ve watched the jazz department at the local HMV grow smaller and crappier, and resign myself to have to buy new stuff online practically exclusively…only for the chain to close their last stores entirely in April.
And now, one week ago, when I’m soon to be unemployed and two months from moving to a record-storeless town, and packing up stuff and getting rid of stuff and trying to save money, I notice that a Sunrise Records has taken over the old location…and out of curiosity I walk in…and discover a jazz section twice as large (which is to say still ridiculously small) as the most recent HMV equivalent just before they closed! And don’t they have a bunch of Blue Note 5CD “original album” boxes for a mere $25 each that I surely would’ve bought if they had ’em months ago, or if I had disposable funds now! So frustrating…it’s depressing enough to have lived long enough to watch record stores disappear, but this is like icing on the cake. I know, I know, it’s just as easy to buy stuff online now, and I’ll find another job and be able to do just that in time. (And anyway I already have at least one of the albums in each of the boxes.) But still. 🙁
Anyways, here are a few boxes that I surely would’ve happily purchased and posted here if I’d had the chance in April or earlier…

All great ones there. Warren Zevon is one of my favorite songwriters. If you don’t already have it, his eponymous album is his best IMO, with Excitable Boy as a close second. But he is amazing.
Plus Blonde On Blonde is an absolute classic.
I recently bought Joni Mitchell’s Shadows And Light, with Pat Metheny on guitar and Jaco Pastorious on bass. Its really great jazz but also includes some more well known Joni songs. I watched the concert on youtube and just had to buy the album.

I haven’t posted here in a bit but I have bought quite a bit in the past few weeks.
So 2 weeks ago I bought Ringo’s Blast From Your Past
I got a bunch of 45’s
“Weird Al” Yankovic Fat/You Make Me
“Weird Al” Yankovic Eat It/That Boy Could Dance
The Beatles Can’t Buy Me Love /You Can’t Do That
Eagles Hotel California/New Kid In Town
Billy Joel You May Be Right/She’s Got A Way
Billy Joel Only The Good Die Young/Get It Right The First Time
Dawn Knock Three Times/Candida
Then these from the free section
Last week a bunch of new Beatles albums came into the shop so I picked up
Yesterday And Today
And this little Introducing The Beatles record that was hiding in a Meet The Beatles ’64 jacket(brown letters). The guy at the shop wouldn’t let me buy it with the jacket(the Meet The Beatles jacket), but it still was a descent use of 99¢
Then I popped by Zia, and picked up Eagles Desperado
A couple days ago I went over to the record store and picked up a couple more of those Beatles albums
Rubber Soul (US)
The “Help !” Movie Soundtrack
As well as some 45’s
The Beatles She Loves You /I’ll Get You
The Beatles I Feel Fine /She’s A Woman
Johnny Rivers Secret Asian Agent Man/You Dig
Then from the free section
Then today there was another new set of records at the shop and there were lots of new Beatles albums. Some I had and some I didn’t. I ended up picking up these numbers
Sgt. Pepper ! (Finally I found one that’s not like $50!! @Dark Overlord.) It doesn’t have the blood soaked innersleeve, but it does have a nice set of the cut outs. It’s also a Capitol issue so there is no innergroove.
The Beatles (White Album ) (Copy #3). This is a really patchy copy with a fair share of skips, tho it was only $1.99. I mainly got it because I got it with a set of flimsy postcards(which cost $5) for my orange Capitol label White Album . The postcards were hiding in an orange Capitol label Abbey Road .
John Lennon Shaved Fish
(Not Beatles but was in the new collection)Billy Joel Piano Man
Then from the free section
