Today I went back to the vinyl shop to buy a No More Lonely Nights (Ballad)/No More Lonely Nights (Playout) 45 that I saw last time.

It was in descent condition. It sounded quite nice, definitely one of Paul’s best songs. It’s ironic that it’s from one of Paul’s worst albums.

Then I browsed a bit and I noticed a copy of All Things Must Pass that was not absolutely destroyed! It was only like $3 more than the one that was destroyed, so I bought it. I hope @Beatlebug is proud of me now. I took a bunch of pictures of it just for SG(and also the rest of the fourumpoolians can look at them too I guess).

As for ATMP , the box is in very good condition. The guy at the shop said that it was one of the best quality ATMP copies he had.

When I saw it in the store, whoever put it away last stacked the LP’s in this order from top to bottom: sides 3&4, sides 1&2, sides 5&6. Immediately when I got home I put sides 1&2 on top of sides 3&4 because of OCD reasons. Then after I listened to the NMLN 45 I went to put on side one of ATMP . When I picked up the sides 1&2 sleeve and took the record out I noticed that it was sides 3&4. sides 1&2 and sides 3&4 had flip floped sleeves, which explains (kinda) why the records were stacked in the order they were at the store.

Sides 1&2 sound pretty descent, a few tiny blips and bloops here and there(which is expected, ditto the Terry Draper quote from the last album I bought), but all together now the sound was actually very clear. In fact it was almost perfect.

Sides 3&4 are pretty much the same quality as sides 1&2. Side 4 was a bit crackly at the beginning, but it faded out after about a minute.

Side 5 is pretty much the same quality as the others. Side 6 was a bit crackly all the way through, but the music was loud enough that you couldn’t hear it for the most part. One thing I learned is that the track order for sides 5&6 is different on the record than it is on the CD remaster. “Out Of The Blue ” is at the beginning of the Apple Jam on the original vinyl, where as on the 2014 remaster, it’s at the end.

Well, I would invite you over to listen to it, but for all I know, you could be a crazy serial killer(no offence. I mean you also could be and amazing dogooder, or anything in between). My solution to this is that we meet in a coffee shop to listen to it. I’ll bring my turntable, and the records. If the management complains, we’ll just tell them that we are helping to draw customers in with the beautiful music.

And likewise yourself. I don’t think I’m either of those extremes, just a silly, occasionally apathetic, muddled-up human being, but I do see your point.

Or you could just send it to me, I wouldn’t mind a bit. ahdn_george_06 I’d be sure to send it back…………….

Anyway we do live on opposite sides of the country, so meeting up would probably be expensive.

Ha, I’m not giving lending this out anytime soon. This is currently my pride and joy in life. Maybe I’ll leave it to you in my will, so that if and when I die, it will be passed on down to you.

You should be careful bringing just any old album home from the shrink. You don’t know why they needed to see a psychologist.

@William Shears Campbell what a great find. The first copy of ATMP I bought many years ago didn’t even have the poster!

@Mean Mr. Mustard I think that was Simon’s first solo album? Would be interesting to hear!

It took a month but I finally got my vinyl copy of Fireworks by José Feliciano:

118028391.jpgImage Enlarger

I have a green one, it came in several colours from brown to blue. The problem with the green cover is that the gold lettering isn’t very strong and you have to squint to read the songlist on the back written in the worst possible flowery font. And to make matters worse, it’s a gatefold which opens to a large picture of Feliciano performing on stage, and the songlist written in the same flowery font that is completely unreadable. AAGH. So I have to read the record spindle. Which has the only production notes as well.

My parents had a copy when I was little but theirs looked like this:

132188.jpgImage Enlarger

But at least the songlist was readable. I have no idea why the packaging was so varied! Do a Google image search, it’s bizarre, what was going on at RCA.

Anyway the reason I got it is because it has a fantastic version of Fireworks for guitar and chamber orchestra by Handel and some great Beatles covers (five of them), but also the grooviest cover of the Stone’s I Can’t Get No Satisfaction.

Yes I’m recreating my weird childhood with my parent’s bizarre taste in records.

Thrift store records that I bought:

Trilogy – ELP.
Self titled – ELP.
Brain Salad Surgery – ELP. (The album cover is awesome.)
Holiday – America.
Toulouse Street – The Doobie Brothers. (I am NEVER opening the gatefold again.)
2 Years On – Bee Gees.
On The Waters – Bread.
Guitar Man – Bread.
Manna – Bread.

I paid 27$ for those. (There we tons more there that I wanted, but I didn’t happen to have enough money.)

I just played this in a giant thrift store/artist residency. The place had some cool records. None for sale though, so I spent my time at the record player listening to as many singles and lps as possible.

Thru my loving of the film ‘The Grinch’ I found a band called ‘The Pretty Reckless’ (the lead singer played ‘Cindy Lou’ in said film). I found I could legally download some of their album ‘Going To Hell’ which is actually a decent listen so got the complete album to fill in the gaps.

Horizontal – BeeGees. heart (The sleeve isn’t in very good condition, but the record plays fine though.)
Glad All Over – The Dave Clark Five. (I don’t know if I’m going to like this one.)
All Summer Long – The Beach Boys . (I don’t even like the Beach Boys …but for 50 cents I can learn to love them.)
The Age Of Aquarius – The 5th Dimension. (I’m especially excited to listen to their cover of Sunshine Of Your Love, which is on this album.)
Works Vol.1 – ELP. (Now I need Volumes 2…)
Reflections – The 5th Dimension (This record has a cover of Ticket To Ride , so I bought it.)

Paid 5.71$ for the lot of ’em.

In keeping with my policy of being 5-10 years behind the curve, this wonderful solo album by Ulrich Schnauss (current Tangerine Dream member), A Strangely Isolated Place, 2003, nice little digipak cd:
