1. My day job is doing tax returns. Sad but true.
2. My greatest achievements are my children. My son, 30, lives in Northampton and my daughter, 28, lives in Switzerland. Neither cares for The Beatles. I am intensely proud of both of them. I really should tell them so, shouldn’t I?
3. I have written several plays which have been staged. I have written several books (none published). I have painted paintings which hang on walls. I have recorded an album. None of this has had any commercial life whatsoever, and I make no comment as to their quality as it’s not my place to do so.
4. My grandfather was in the Royal Navy during both World Wars.
5. I qualified as a Chartered Accountant, but resigned from the Institute to which I belonged on a point of principle.
6. The solo careers of all four Beatles disappointed me, and I have no wish to listen to Paul any more because the quality of his voice, compared to what it was, distresses me.
7. I lost interest in music as the 70s progressed. Then, about 3 or 4 years ago, I discovered Japanese girl vocal duo Puffy Amiyumi, and found that that interest rekindled. Their melodic pop flicked a switch which hadn’t been flicked since the Fabs.
8. I have a cinema season ticket and try to catch 3 new movies every week.
9. I have the best wife in the world. Not the easiest to get along with (although we’ve been married for 35 years and together for 40), but the best.

Yeah, tell your daughters you are proud of them @vectisfabber. They almost certainly do know already but to hear it would be something they really remember and treasure – just make sure they know you’re not dying when/if you tell them.
Why is it “sad but true” you are a tax collector? If you enjoy it then thats all that matters, if you dont then i’d suggest looking elsewhere as life is too short (bills have to be paid yadda yadda). One of Jesus’s disciples, Matthew, was a tax collector (yip, he’s the only one i can remember who is).
What type of books and plays do you write?
Not sure this is meant to be the interview thread but i’m interested.

My kids do know, but I should tell them more.
I’m a tax accountant, not a collector – more a poacher than a gamekeeper! But Monty Python boring.
Performed plays: two one-woman plays (one quite dark, one less so, but both with humour), a panto (Goldilocks), and a short macabre gothic black comedy for teenagers. Books/stories – lean towards fantasy, often featuring horror and/or humour. My favourites of my own stuff are Maisie’s Cave, a short (47,000 words) kids’ novel about four 12-ish friends who get stuck exploring seaside caves when the tide comes in, and Cloud, (30,000 words) about a boy and a girl who become friends at age 6 and grow up together: it’s a bit of a tearkjerker.

I encountered them via the theme song for the Teen Titans animated series – a clever pastiche, riffing on the 60s Batman TV series theme, but also full of cod Japanesey-ness as homage to the manga-style animation. So I bought a CD, which turned out to be drawn from their Hi Hi TV show (which I’m not fond of, it’s a bit too kiddy for me), and found that I loved every song on it, whether it was an English or Japanese lyric – it was simply filled with happy sounds. So I dipped my toe in further and bought Jet -CD and Fever Fever – and loved every track on both albums. If fact, I was relieved when I finally found a track I didn’t enjoy!
I have most of their albums now, and have found out more about them – now aged 40 and 41, they have been going for 17 years, which commands some respect, and they appear to be good friends who enjoy each others’ company (Ami Onuki was at the hospital when Yumi Yoshimura had her first child a couple of years ago). The Beatles are among their influences – they have covered Lucy – and they wear their influences quite blatantly. I recommend looking out the video for Korega Watashi No Ikiru Michi (That’s The Way It Is), and registering the direct Beatles musical quotes in it: I got up to 9.

what the hell, 9 more:
1. My dad took me to see a jumpsuit-clad 4-piece band who did Beatles covers back about 1974, when I was around seven. Closest I’ve ever come to seeing a Beatle perform.
2. Also in 1974, I independently came up with the word “frig” as my own personal substitute f-bomb. (I was scared to use the real thing)
3. I spent half an hour picking up trash outside the office building today. They provided us with free pizza.
4. My grandfather had twin sisters named Pearl and Ruby.
5. More family weirdness: My grandfather married my grandmother, and his brother married her sister.
6. I worship the Coen Brothers and their filmography (except for a couple)
7. I’ve got the complete 1971-1988 run of Creem (“America’s Only Rock ‘n Roll Magazine”) in my storage closet, about 200 issues or so. Including this one from ’76
8. I really need to buy a new Wah-Wah pedal someday. First one hasn’t worked for over a year now.
9. I’m done.

Only nine? Well ok. I may have repeated myself here.
- I love penguins and cats. Birds like me for some reason.
- I can be reduced to goggle-eyed boyhood by any airplane.
- At one stage I had the ability to recall a song in my mind and have it play on some device in public within a day without fail for decades. It’s the weirdest superpower, but I think it’s waned now.
- I am a voracious reader of non-fiction, very choosy now about fiction.
- Was told at 7 that I had a reading age of 11 and a maths age of 3. I’ve fixed it up a bit since then though.
- I am addicted to comedy podcasts.
- I write ambient techno music
- I love Thai and Malaysian curries, particularly laksa
- I still play computer games I bought in the mid ’90s

1. My favourite food is curry, literally any Indian food and I’m a happy camper.
2. If I could go to any country it would be Iceland because it just looks so beautiful!

6. If I had my way, I would only speak Irish as I think it is far more poetic and beautiful than English is-pity nobody speaks it though
7. I am very sensitive- I can laugh at jokey comments but if you insult me and mean it I probably will start crying…. I admit I’m pathetic.
8. I have never had a nickname, I imagine it’s because my first name is already a pet-name.

Well, since everyone is having another go, I might as well jump in:
1. I am running out of room for my books. I recently got rid of a few, but my bookshelves will be full soon. I really need to do something about that…
2. My favorite TV show is Sherlock
3. I visit the forum at least once per day, but I post much less often.
4. I have the highest average of my school year.
5. I am an INTJ female (we form 0.8% of the population)
6. I have an old classical guitar that I found in my grandparents’ basement. I use it from time to time, but the neck is a little too wide for my hands
7. Building on the previous point, I’m tall but I have small hands (it’s my fingers that are short). The bane of any guitar player.
8. I am very shy and often hesitate to join conversations, even on the internet. Usually people have to address me directly to get me to talk.
9. I’m out of things to say.
Upon further reflection:
9. I can come across as pedantic. Sorry about that; I don’t do it intentionally.
