The body’s a temple, that’s what we’re told
I’ve treated this one like an old honky-tonk
Greasy cheeseburgers and cheap cigarettes
One day they’ll get me if they ain’t got me yet’
Cause I’ve been living in fast forward
A hillbilly rock star out of control
I’ve been living in fast forward
Now I need to rewind real slow.

One of the big influences on Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird was the lynching of 14-year-old Emmett Till after he’d supposedly flirted with a white woman.
Dylan wrote a beautiful song about that case that wasn’t released at the time, called The Death of Emmett Till:
‘Twas down in Mississippi not so long ago
When a young boy from Chicago town stepped through a Southern door
This Boy ‘s dreadful tragedy I can still remember well
The color of his skin was black and his name was Emmett TillSome men they dragged him to a barn and there they beat him up
They said they had a reason, but I can’t remember what
They tortured him and did some things too evil to repeat
There were screaming sounds inside the barn, there was laughing sounds out on the streetThen they rolled his body down a gulf amidst a bloody red rain
And they threw him in the waters wide to cease his screaming pain
The reason that they killed him there, and I’m sure it ain’t no lie
Was just for the fun of killing him and to watch him slowly dieAnd then to stop the United States of yelling for a trial
Two brothers they confessed that they had killed poor Emmett Till
But on the jury there were men who helped the brothers commit this awful crime
And so this trial was a mockery, but nobody there seemed to mindI saw the morning papers but I could not bear
To see the smiling brothers walking down the courthouse stairs
For the jury found them innocent and the brothers they went free
While Emmett’s body floats the foam of a Jim Crow southern seaIf you can’t speak out against this kind of thing, a crime that’s so unjust
Your eyes are filled with dead men’s dirt, your mind is filled with dust
Your arms and legs they must be in shackles and chains, and your blood it must refuse to flow
For you to let this human race fall down so God -awful lowThis song is just a reminder to remind your fellow man
That this kind of thing still lives today in that ghost-robed Ku Klux Klan
But if all of us folks that thinks alike, if we give all we could give
We’d make this great land of ours a greater place to live

When was it released? Why didn’t he release it when he wrote it? I have a theory.

It was written around January 1962, @Ahhh Girl. An unreleased studio version was recorded during the first session for The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan on 24 April. The reason it didn’t make the album? The eight sessions for the album spanned a year (the last being held on 24 April 1963). Bob had recorded a total of 36 songs across the sessions. The album featured 13 of them. There simply wasn’t enough room.
A version he recorded for a Broadside radio show in May 1962 was released in 1972 on the Folkways compilation Broadside Reunion. It was credited to Blind Boy Grunt.
His publishing demo recorded in December 1962 was released on The Witmark Demos: 1962-1964 The Bootleg Series Vol. 9 in 2010.
There are a good 40+ songs from the period that got left behind because of the speed he was moving, developing and changing.

‘Flaming‘ – The Pink Floyd
Alone in the clouds all blue
Lying on an eiderdown.
Yippee! You can’t see me
But I can you.Lazing in the foggy dew
Sitting on a unicorn.
No fair, you can’t hear me
But I can you.Watching buttercups cup the light
Sleeping on a dandelion.
Too much, I won’t touch you
But then I might.Screaming through the starlit sky
Traveling by telephone.
Hey ho, here we go
Ever so high.Alone in the clouds all blue
Lying on an eiderdown.
Yippee! You can’t see me
But I can you.
And that, ladies and gents, is where @MrMoonlight got his location. Now you know.
‘Bike‘ – by the same
I’ve got a bike, you can ride it if you like.
It’s got a basket, a bell that rings
And things to make it look good.
I’d give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.You’re the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I’ll give you anything, everything if you want things.I’ve got a cloak it’s a bit of a joke.
There’s a tear up the front. It’s red and black.
I’ve had it for months.
If you think it could look good, then I guess it should. You’re the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I’ll give you anything, everything if you want things.I know a mouse, and he hasn’t got a house.
I don’t know why I call him Gerald.
He’s getting rather old, but he’s a good mouse. You’re the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I’ll give you anything, everything if you want things.I’ve got a clan of gingerbread men.
Here a man, there a man, lots of gingerbread men.
Take a couple if you wish. They’re on the dish. You’re the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I’ll give you anything, everything if you want things.I know a room full of musical tunes.
Some rhyme, some ching, most of them are clockwork.
Let’s go into the other room and make them work.
Pink Floyd before they were serious.
‘Horses‘ – Dala
I am the boy who won’t let go
I live in my head and I don’t look like my photos
I hate the sound of the world outside
’cause everybody who come in here can’t wait to say goodbyeI followed your car to my childhood home
I look for key hidden under the stones
I still hear the sound in my father’s voice
When he lifts me up like I’m a little boyBut I saw horses from my window
They were watching all the cars go
They don’t care that I am broken
I close my eyes and run beside them
And I am already free
And I am already free
So don’t look for me here
’cause I run in my dreamsI am the girl who won’t let go
I live in my house and I don’t like my photos
I hate the sound of the world outside
I still haven’t found my place to hideBut I saw horses from my window
They were watching all the cars go
They don’t care that I am broken
I close my eyes and run beside themI saw horses from my window
They were watching all the cars go
They don’t care that I am broken
Close my eyes and run beside them
Through the valleys and the pastures
I know you’ll never find me
’cause I am already free
I am already freeSo don’t look for me here
Don’t look for me here
’cause I run in my dream
In my dreams …

Well I guess I should confess that I am starting to get old
All the latest music fads all passed me by and left me cold
All the kids are talking slang I won’t pretend to understand
All my friends are getting married, mortgages and pension plans
And it’s obvious my angry adolescent days are done
And I’m happy and I’m settled in the person I’ve become
But that doesn’t mean I’m settled up and sitting out the game
Time may change a lot but some things may stay the sameAnd I won’t sit down
And I won’t shut up
And most of all I will not grow up
And I won’t sit down
And I won’t shut up
And most of all I yeah I won’t grow upOh maturity’s a wrapped up package deal so it seems
And ditching teenage fantasy means ditching all your dreams
All your friends and peers and family solemnly tell you you will
Have to grow up be an adult yeah be bored and unfulfilled
Oh when no ones yet explained to me exactly what’s so great
About slaving 50 years away on something that you hate,
about meekly shuffling down the path of mediocrity
Well if that’s your road then take it but it’s not the road for meAnd I won’t sit down
And I won’t shut up
And most of all I will not grow up
And I won’t sit down
And I won’t shut up
And most of all I yeah I won’t grow up
And I won’t sit down
And I won’t shut up
And most of all I will not grow upAnd if all you ever do with your life
Is photosynthesize
Then you deserve every hour of these sleepless nights
That you waste wondering when you’re gonna dieNow I’ll play and you sing
The perfect way for the evening to begin
Now I’ll play and you sing
The perfect way for the evening to beginAnd I won’t sit down
And I won’t shut up
And most of all yeah I won’t grow up
And I won’t sit down
And I won’t shut up
And most of all I will not grow up
And I won’t sit down
And I won’t shut up
And most of all I will not grow up
Love it! Love it and living it!

Some more, and forgive me if they’ve already been mentioned in the past 10 pages but they’re worth mentioning again, if so.
“Well I’ve been afraid of changing, ’cause I’ve built my life around you. But time makes you bolder, even children get older, and I’m getting older too.”
Fleetwood Mac – Landslide
“And the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls, and whispered in the sound of silence.”
Simon and Garfunkel – The Sound of Silence
“I’d rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints, sinners are much more fun.”
Billy Joel – Only the Good Die Young
And this entire song, One Too Many Mornings. As someone mentioned above, though, Dylan is in a class all his own.

Bob Dylan – Masters of WarYou fasten all the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
That reminds me of ‘Us And Them’:
Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died
And the General sat and the lines on the map
moved from side to side

As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin’ for light in the darkness of insanity.
I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?
And each time I feel like this inside,
There’s one thing I wanna know:
What’s so funny ’bout peace love and understanding?
