Okay, so I’m going to start a topic – What songs make you cry?
Let It Be sometimes makes me cry,
Mother by John Lennon makes me cry sometimes, mainly heavy – hearted, but not much tears
Young and Beautiful by Lana Del Rey also kinda does, but not too often

I don’t often find myself crying over music to be honest, but it’s definitely happened. I clearly recall breaking down over ‘Everybody Hurts’. It won’t be surprising that I was going through the hardest time of my life when that happened.
Lately, and I think it’s more relevant too, Free As A Bird (and to a lesser extent Real Love ) gets to me. Hearing George sing and play to John’s demos and realising he isn’t here anymore either just sets me off. Funnily enough, so does Ringo’s “rock on George, for Ringo one time” in Honey Don’t . Here Today does it too, sometimes. During the concert, Paul’s rendition of Something really got to me; particularly the moment where the full band comes in.
It’s a recent thing. I must be turning into a sentimental old fool…

I like to think I’m a person who takes everything as a bit of a joke. I do, but my recent experiences with heart-rending songs like Here Today and Stuck Inside A Cloud (not to mention the Brainwashed EPK— I’ll join you in having that good cry, Dhani) have led me to believe that perhaps I’m a bit more of a softie than I pretend to be. So I may be in the ‘sentimental fool’ category as well.

Offline There have only been three songs in my life that have moved me to tears, and none of them were Beatles songs.
The first was “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” played on an organ at my aunt’s funeral.
The second was hearing “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac while going through a bad breakup.
The third was when I was doing the first listen of the finished product of the song I wrote for my recently-deceased dog Sandi.

Offline I’m Not In Love, 10cc, it’s unfortunately connected to my mother’s death for me, but I’ve heard it’s often a death or breakup song for many people. Definitely a chin-wobbler, and I actually dread hearing it because I’ll have to listen to it and try not to think about the middle section again.
nigella type b, Severed Heads, which is a really obscure instrumental which isn’t even in print unless you find a 2nd hand copy of the album it’s on, Op 2 and for some reason its just sad enough to get the chin-wobble going.
I Hope I Never, Split Enz. This was that one classic teen angst song for me (oh how love is tragic vomit vomit), but I warn you, it is not a song to hear after a breakup. Actually Tim Finn is an all-round bad influence for the sentimental, and even Neil gets weird (Missing Person, what’s that about).

Let Down, Radiohead, this is a desperately sad and beautiful song. Not good for sad days, avoid.

Offline Yes, there have been a few songs through the years that have choked me up for different reasons. In fact hearing these songs at a young age scared the hell out of me and made me wonder if falling in love was a wise thing to do.

Offline ‘It Makes No Difference‘ by The Band, a song about love lost, has moved me more than once. Some of the lyrics:

Offline I confess this song made me tear up today:
It’s that children’s chorus that gets me… I’d be okay if it weren’t for those damn kids singing ‘There is someone watching over you’ 
And if you’re wondering how in the world I heard of it, Silly Dad heard it at a shop a while back and put it on his old phone (which I sometimes use for music listening purposes, since he has all the good stuff in his collection– Beatles, PF, Ackerman, etc.).

Offline Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven”. It’s not even just that it’s about his little boy, Conor who died at four and a half years old. It’s also thinking about those I love who have gone on before me. Gets me right in the feels every single time.
Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Freebird”. My brother died at 22. This song reminds me of him. His girlfriend even used to call him “Freebird”.
Mike & The Mechanics’ “The Living Years”. I didn’t have the easiest relationship with my biological father, my stepdad raised me from the age of eight. This song just gets me so much more so since he died. “Say it loud, say it clear, you can listen as well as you hear. It’s too late when we die to admit we don’t see eye to eye.” Sadly we never did really get close again.
Jeff Buckley’s cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”. Hell, the entire “Grace” album makes me emotional, but this song, just the heft of the emotion gets into my heart.
“A Boy Like That / I Have A Love” from “West Side Story”. I can’t get through that scene with Maria and Anita without waterworks.
And yes, Kermit the freaking FROG singing “Rainbow Connection”. I can’t explain it, I just well up. “Who said that every wish would be heard and answered when wished on the morning star? Somebody thought of that and someone believed it, and look what it’s done so far.”
Are you a cat lover? Look up The Weakerthans’ “Plea From A Cat Named Virtue” (a cat tries to encourage its depressed owner) as well as its sequel “Virtue the Cat Explains Her Departure”(in which Virtue leaves her owner to face his depression alone) . Even if you aren’t necessarily a cat lover, they’ll get you. The final devastating line in “Virtue the Cat Explains..” : “But I can’t remember the sound that you found for me, I can’t remember the sound that you found for me, I can’t remember the sound…”
Shoot now I’ve done it. HAND ME THAT BOX OF KLEENEX, damn it!
As Elton John says, sad songs say so much. Sometimes we just need a good cry, it’s cathartic.

Offline This is a bit weird because I’m not really a blubber. As above, Tears In Heaven could get get me a bit though. The only bit of music that did make me cry once was (inexplicably) Widor’s Toccata. I have no real idea why this was. I had never heard it before except for catching part of a radio programme about it a few weeks before. I heard that it’s popular at weddings but I’m not particularly sentimental about weddings. It was just something in the music I couldn’t explain. Because of this I played a video of it to my wife she was fascinated but couldn’t see it at all. I think it’s because the sound is just so big heard when played on a vast church organ. Headphones needed for full effect! I still enjoy hearing it but it doesn’t have the same result! This is a nice version. It’s silent until 15 seconds in.

Offline There have been many songs that have made me cry in the past, but now I could care less. However, some that have that come to mind are “Time to Say Goodbye,” (English version) by Sarah Brightman, “You’re Breaking My Heart,” by Vince Damone, “Say Something ,” by A Great Big World/Christina Aguliera “Love Yourself,” by Justin Bieber and “I Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley.
Many more I’ve probably forgotten. I guess I’m an emotional person. It’s weird for a fire sign.
Only music can save us.
