So you did- I can’t imagine why I didn’t notice, as we all know the only reason I read anything at all is for mentions of breasts.(Not breads, Autocorrect! Keep my priorities straight!)
That’s ok Fiddy, for all I know you were probably distracted by your own breasts. It’s a common female problem.
Sometimes I’m out walking and I have to pause for a minute and realise “wow I have breasts”.
It’s a nightmare sometimes.

Oh, yes, of course. That’s the cause of all my problems, you know. It’s also the reason I shot Donna’s car.

Oh yes.Three cheers for Whoever The Author We Are Talking About Is, for writing so sympathetically about this debilitating female condition.

ASJ’s criticisms of Murakami are fair enough, IMO. I think the female characters are generally pretty good (from Norwegian Wood , Reiko in particular is a wonderful character), but I did find the constant references to their… physicality pretty off putting at times. I would hope that he was just trying to get in the mind of an adolescent for the book, but I’m not confident.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Oh yeah I enjoy Murakami’s novels regardless of his creepy descriptions and it’s in every. single. novel not just ones where the narrator is a young man (which is actually quite a lot of his books :/ ).
I read NW about 5 years ago and remember enjoying it at the time.

Sigh.. At least the unnecessary descriptions of female anatomy are balanced out by interesting characters, something which can’t be said for much of literature.

Bechdel test is always fun to apply to anything you read/watch. There has to be two female characters (it’s good if they have names) who talk about anything that ISN’T concerning a man.
The amount of films and shows that don’t pass it is ridiculous- Casablanca, one of my favourites Kramer vs. Kramer, a lot of the Potter films, 500 Days of Summer, The Avengers, the list goes on and on

My personality entirely revolves around boys so it’s fine by me! 🙂
Also currently reading: Since coming back to the home country at the end of July, I had a massive pile-up of Doctor Who Magazines to read. I had 6 waiting for me when I came home, another one arrived on the door (a special about the Target books) and the latest one is arriving this week. I am currently reading the Target special along with Plath. I’ll be happy to be back on top of them again and I’m also happy that they’re back on track with producing a good quality magazine again.
I know there’s DW fans here but I don’t know if any of you buy the DWM (I’m assuming not as there was a Beatles reference in last month’s comic and it would have been posted here) but at the start of the year the magazine had declined a lot in quality. Since Jodie Whittaker came on-board as the Doctor, they’ve tried to update the magazine and make it more cool and hip by hiring a load of ‘quirky, liberals’ in their early-20s to be the new Time Team (people who watch and review past Who episodes), adding a Cosplay feature (which is more suited to the Junior magazine, which is published at odd intervals now) and in general focusing too much on the new series when the magazine in the past has been a split between Classic Who (60s-mid 90s) and New Who (2005 onwards). It would be fine to focus on the new series if the new showrunner was like the previous ones and actually gave us information about what’s coming in the next series but he stays mum on everything and it’s a waste of time giving column space to speculations on the new series when we won’t get confirmation until the episodes actually air. After a load of complaints online (I was considering cancelling my subscription and I’ve been subscribed to DWM for 4 years continuously now, I also have a good few back issues from the RTD era), they’ve gone full-blown Classic Who for the last 4 issues, having never-before-seen interviews with Jon Pertwee, a full 40 pages of material from Christopher Barry’s archives- all really cool stuff. I hope they keep the standards up because they’re very much impressing me now.
I never posted my feelings on Series 11 DW but summed up it’s: what a disappointment- don’t like the companions, don’t particularly like Whittaker, stories were crap, music was unimpressive, monsters were blah and the decision to get rid of the Christmas special was idiotic. If Series 12 is like S11 again, I’m not watching it again until either Whittaker or Chibnall goes, whichever comes first.

Having finished ‘Perfume’…..(Kurt Cobain’s favourite book)….But don’t let that put you off.
I’m back In Afghanistan and the disastrous retreat from Kabul with Flasnman.
Some quotes to give you a flavour
“But I still state unhesitatingly, that for pure, vacillating stupidity, for superb incompetence to command, for ignorance combined with bad judgment –in short, for the true talent for catastrophe — Elphy Bey stood alone. Others abide our question, but Elphy outshines them all as the greatest military idiot of our own or any other day.
Only he could have permitted the First Afghan War and let it develop to such ruinous defeat. It was not easy: he started with a good army, a secure position, some excellent officers, a disorganized enemy, and repeated opportunities to save the situation. But Elphy, with the touch of true genius, swept aside these obstacles with unerring precision, and out of order wrought complete chaos. We shall not, with luck, look upon his like again.”
Flashman
“The Afghans murder our people, try to make off with our wives, shoot us out of the country, and what does our commander do? Shoots himself in the arse. No doubt an attempt to blow his brains out..He can’t have missed by much.
George MacDonald Fraser
“If anything she was a shade too plump, but she knew the ninety-seven ways of making love that the Hindus are supposed to set much store by. Though mind you, it is all nonsense, for the seventy-fourth position turns out to be the same as the seventy-third, but with your fingers crossed.”

Haha yes, when I opened the delivery I was pretty shocked at how small it was, I thought maybe I’d ordered a companion notes book or something like that.Turns out it’s just short, let’s hope it’s sweet too
