Just curious to know if there are any fellow fans of these three groups on the forum (I know Evangeline is, but she has been away for some time). If you do like them, what are some of your favourite tracks?

Ooh La La is my favorite song done by these groups. I’m also a fan of Rod Stewart and his album Every Picture Tells A Story.

Isn’t The Small Faces Rod Stewart’s backing band. If so, then they’re ok, Maggie Mae isn’t bad although Rod’s awful voice ruins it a little for me but the backing band on that song is good so i’ll say they’re good.

@Dark Overlord I hope I don’t confuse you with this, but just to make things clear:

The Small Faces were active from 1965 to 1968, with Steve Marriott on lead vocals and guitar, Ronnie Lane on bass, Kenney Jones on drums and Ian MacLagan on keyboards. After Marriott left the group in late 1968 and formed his own group Humble Pie with Peter Frampton, the remaining members of The Small Faces renamed their own group to simply just The Faces and recruited Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood to take his place on vocals and guitar. The Faces were active from 1969 to 1974. Indeed, the group eventually split because Rod Stewart began to have more dominance over the other members, making them be seen as his backing band.

I’ve never spent a lot of time listening to either of these three bands, even though I’ve owned at least an album or two by each over the years. They had a lot of talent, obviously…I guess I like the original Small Faces the best, with “Tin Soldier” and the Ogden album and all that. The Rod Stewart – Ron Wood version was OK but I preferred the solo Rod records from the era better. Of Humble Pie, I’ve only heard the 1971-1973 albums, and found that on the whole they didn’t contain enough killer riffs or songs to really hold my interest, Steve Marriott’s powerful singing notwithstanding. But I’ve never heard the first two Pie albums, and I’ve seen those ones compared to early Zeppelin in their mixture of hard rock and acoustic numbers, so maybe I should check em out someday. Even though I think I have a fairly limited capacity for basic blues-rock, and may have had my lifetime fill by now.

Steve Marriott was a terrific vocalist for both The Small Faces and Humble Pie. Case in point:

I’ve been on a kick of this one recently. The rest of the album is a great listen too if you ever come across it:

A great band, very underrated.

The only problem I have with them is that their albums are really hard to find. paul-mccartney

Thank you for lending David Gilmour your dog (even if most Floyd fans wouldn’t have minded if you didn’t)! john-lennon-salute_gif
