I was going for a scooter (I have no idea what the verb “to scooter” is) down along the beach and I saw a “fortune teller’s” caravan with the most interesting advertising of the “Seventh daughter of a seventh daughter”, I’d get her to name all of her mother’s six siblings and her six siblings very quickly before I gave her a penny.
You were going for a scoot?

When do the days start? Is there a rule somewhere that they must start today or can you pick and choose what the lucky days are, staggering them over a few weeks or throughout your life? Maybe you don’t need today to be lucky but next Friday it would be incredibly useful if it was and then will be a super roll-over lottery draw at some point. Better to be lucky with that than some minor piece of luck like avoiding your boring neighbour who wants to have a chat.
These things need to be thought thru before lucky days are just tossed out.

* Being a Beatles fan had me sharing John’s obsession with the number 9. I would even increase the volume on the television by only using increments of 9 (18, 27, 36, etc…). After a particularly long streak of bad luck, I stopped doing things in 9’s. My luck did not change for a while, but I did not see the point in continiuing with it if it wasn’t working.
* If I see a dead animal along the road, I perform the sign of the cross 3 times. Once for the animal, once to Saint Francis of Assisi (patron saint of animals) and once to God (whoever he or she may be).
* I never bet on sports because I always lose – except for the time I tied. I’ve considered betting against the team that I’d like to see win, but what’s the point? Sure, my team would win, but I would be out a few bucks that would go towards buying more ale. Can’t have that.
*Similar to Von’s jersey wearing superstition upthread – when the NY Yankees are in the playoffs, I have one cap to wear on my head and another that goes on top of the television. Of their 27 total championships, 7 have been in my lifetime. They owe me…big.

MMM, scheduling luck would be helpful! Maybe there’s a superstitution rulebook somewhere.
@Zig, Maybe your team would still lose, but then you’d win a few dollars.

The rulebook probably got lost when the author came across a black cat or hit a black cat or walked under a ladder or saw the number 13 on a boat or their tea leaves were saying that Venus was in alignment with Jupiter but slightly out with Uranus or some other hocum and dropped it in horror.
Never bet again your team. Doesn’t matter if they are playing the greatest team ever known in the history of the sport and have more chance of winning the state lottery jackpot four months in a row you never go against your team. Im part of a prediction league and my side have occasionally come up in cup games against far better teams with little chance of the win, i still put them down for it.

Really liked the Stevie Ray Vaughn one. Not to be superstitious, but maybe he exposed himself to too much bad luck!
The Stevie Wonder cameo at the end was pretty funny.

I throw some salt over my left shoulder if I spill some. And I put a penny in my shoe (the left one) for good luck, unless the penny is face down, in which case I believe it is bad luck. A friend once told me that in some locations, face down is good luck, but I never quizzed him about which locations. I always feel bad if a black cat crosses my path (unless I own it), but I will never go out of my way to change my route. Occasionally I knock on wood. Also, I never open an umbrella indoors, and I’m very careful not to break mirrors if I can help it. Generally, though, I’m not superstitious. I play it safe just in case.

I do this, too, though I don’t actually believe that it does anything. I just like to make a mess.
