If you don’t know, I really think that Greatest Hits by Queen is rushed, butchered, and contains a poor tracklist, especially in the UK (Now I’m Here and Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy over Tie Your Mother Down, opening with Bohemian Rhapsody), so I decided that it would be great to make a greatest hits album of my own.

Here it goes: (NOTE: Even though this is mostly based on popularity, I will include some songs that even though I hear them on the radio every Now And Then (Tie Your Mother Down, I Want It All), they aren’t as popular as their other songs (Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, Killer Queen) because I want to create a good flow and make the album feel like a live setlist, although I am going by the rule that I must’ve heard it on the radio at least once, except for 2 tracks)

Side 1:

One Vision/Tie Your Mother Down 7:45 (Tie Your Mother Down starts when they say the Vision in One Vision for the last time, both single versions)

(One Vision 4:00

Tie Your Mother Down 3:45)

Another One Bites The Dust 3:35

Fat Bottomed Girls (single version) 3:22

I Want It All (single version) 4:01

Total:

18:43

Side 2:

Killer Queen 3:01

You’re My Best Friend 2:50

Somebody To Love 4:56

Bicycle Race 3:01

Don’t Stop Me Now 3:29

Crazy Little Thing Called Love 2:44

Total:

20:01

Disc 1 Total:

38:44

Side 3:

Radio Ga Ga (album version) 5:44

Under Pressure 4:08

I Want To Break Free (single version) 4:21

A Kind Of Magic 4:25

These Are The Days Of Our Lives (although I’ve never heard this on the radio, I’m making an exception because it hit #2 on the charts as a double A-side with Bohemian Rhapsody and this is more popular than the other song in a similar situation, Flick Of The Wrist (double A-side with Killer Queen)) 4:13

Who Wants To Live Forever (single version) 4:00

Total:

22:51

Side 4:

The Show Must Go On 4:31

Hammer To Fall (album version) (although I’ve heard the single version on the radio, I’ve never heard the album version on the radio, however, I am including this version because it contains the “metal” section) 4:48

Bohemian Rhapsody 5:55

We Will Rock You 2:01

We Are The Champions 2:59

Total:

20:14

Disc 2 Total:

43:05

Full Total:

84:49

Please tell me if your opinion differs.

Already have one. Queen Greatest Hits Vols I & II fit the bill quite nicely for me.

If it does, than good for you, however I think it is very flawed (I will be using the original UK versions to make these analogies). They open with Bohemian Rhapsody, replace Tie Your Mother Down with Seven Seas Of Rhye, Now I’m Here, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, and Save Me, when they had the chance to add Tie Your Mother Down to Greatest Hits II, they rejected, and they ended with One Vision. That would be the equivalent of The Beatles releasing a Greatest Hits album that starts with Hey Jude , replaces Help ! with I Call Your Name , I’m Looking Through You , Hold Me Tight , and When I Get Home and ended it with Back In The U.S.S.R..

‘Seven Seas of Rhye’ placed higher on the UK singles charts than ‘Tie Your Mother Down’ (10 compared to 31), the former the first charting Queen single, so is of far greater importance. Additionally why would ‘Tie Your Mother Down’ be on ‘Greatest Hits II’ when it was released in 1977 and ‘GHII’ covers 1981 onwards; it would be a chronological mess. I thought ‘TYMD’ was on ‘GHIII’ but it’s not, which is probably a good thing as that compilation is horrendous.

‘GH’ isn’t chronological so it makes sense to start with their biggest, most successful, more important track and then go from there.

I don’t therefore get your comparison at the end. All the tracks on Queen’s ‘Greatest Hits’ albums were singles whereas ‘Hold Me Tight ‘ and ‘When I Get Home ‘ were not for the Beatles.

As for the perfect Queen Greatest Hits there are about 63 out there already so surely there is one which fits the bill.

Body Language was placed higher on the US singles chart than Killer Queen and Somebody To Love (11 compared to 12 and 13), but I think we all know what song is and was more popular, in both the US and UK. Tie Your Mother Down would’ve been great on Greatest Hits II because it would’ve fixed a mistake. Also, remember that Tie Your Mother Down is one of the few tracks that have been played live on every tour since it was first release, the others being Now I’m Here, Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, and Crazy Little Thing Called Love.

If it were to do that, then it surely failed because it ends with We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions. Also, Bohemian Rhapsody wasn’t meant to be an opener and Tie Your Mother Down is a far better opener.

I got carried away there but the point is that they opened with a good closer (Bohemian Rhapsody), replaced a critical track with deep cuts (Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy over Tie Your Mother Down), and closed with a good opener (One Vision)

The best one I’ve found was believe it or not Singstar.

‘Body Language’ was released in 1982, outside the time period covered by ‘Greatest Hits’, and ‘Tie Your Mother Down’ doesn’t fall anywhere close to the time frame covered by ‘GHII’. As for being a deep cut, ‘Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy’ made #17 in the UK singles chart, another song placing higher than ‘TYMD’, so is more deserving of its inclusion.

I don’t get what you are saying about ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘We Are The Champions’. ‘GH’ opens with Queen’s biggest song and then their 16 biggest UK singles (the track listing differed slightly depending on the country the LP was released in) in a non-chronological order, covering up to ‘The Game’ album in 1980.

I think the 3 disc set-up was a good idea, but for the most part, was not executed as well as it could have been.  I’ve thought long and hard about this, and this is how I would be how my track-listing would be.  Mine goes in roughly chronological order, unlike the official compilations.  The first two discs are mostly hits + popular/better album cuts, while the 3rd is pretty much just hits.  The reason for this is that for whatever reason, most of Queen’s latter day singles are about 5 minutes long! (Also, these would have to be on 120 min. CD’s, as in order to make what I consider a ‘perfect’ compilation, I’d have to put a lot of stuff on here.)

Disc 1: 1973-1976 (Total Time- 1:24:06)

  1. Keep Yourself Alive- 3:46
  2. Liar- 6:26

  6. White Queen (As It Began)- 4:34

Have you ever heard Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy on the radio, because I sure as hell haven’t, whereas I’ve heard Tie Your Mother Down on the radio quite a few times.

I think GH’s track list and arrangement is cheap, all they did was take all the songs that were in the top 20 (except for Flick Of The Wrist), pick them out of a hat blindfolded, and used that track listing, whereas what they should’ve done was try to emulate a live concert setlist and consider the flow from song to song, what songs are openers and closers, and maybe even had Queen go to a nearby record store to ask some random Queen fans what songs they should use to make their greatest hits album.

I love Queen and remember listening to them, among other bands on a local rock radio station when I was a kid and my first album was Sheer Heart Attack and my first concert was Queen on their News Of The World tour, so I thought I would put my own take on this, using 17 tracks and only songs released before Hot Space:

Side 1:

1. Tie Your Mother Down 3:45

2. Killer Queen 3:01

3. You’re My Best Friend 2:50

4. Somebody To Love 4:56

5. Fat Bottomed Girls 3:22

6. Bicycle Race 3:01

7. Don’t Stop Me Now 3:29

Side 1 Total:

24:22

Side 2:

1. Flash 2:48

2. Crazy Little Thing Called Love 2:44

3. Another One Bites The Dust 3:35

4. Play The Game 3:30

5. Under Pressure 4:08

6. Now I’m Here 4:10

7. Keep Yourself Alive 3:46

8. Bohemian Rhapsody 5:55

9. We Will Rock You 2:01

10. We Are The Champions 2:59

Side 2 Total:

35:36

Total:

59:58

I made this playlist consisting of Queen’s real greatest hits: (note that I didn’t use the normal version of Bicycle Race to prevent showing any nudity and I used the Headbanger’s Mix on Hammer To Fall instead of the album version because I couldn’t find a video of the album version that wasn’t all lyrics).

Yes. Not frequently but I have heard it.

Anyway I came to post this and had nowhere else. Love the original and was intrigued to hear an alternate Freddie vocal but dearie me this is atrocious.

The first music related thing that pops up when I type Perfect Queen in Google is a Japanese Hip Hop song.

Probably not the greatest hit then.

The YouTube playlist is unfortunately deleted due to it preventing people from accessing the Add Reply button, however, if you search for the Jack Andrews (Andrews is not my real last name, just one I use for online accounts) YouTube channel, you should find it.

I love Queen, have been since around 1974 or 75′. If I were to make a Greatest Hits album, it would be similar to their 1981 Greatest Hits album with some tracks that weren’t released at the time added because we can.

Side 1: The Good Old Days (1974-1980)

Another One Bites The Dust

Crazy Little Thing Called Love

Killer Queen

Somebody To Love

Bohemian Rhapsody

We Will Rock You

We Are The Champions

Side 2: Giving Into Synths (1981-1991)

A Kind Of Magic

Under Pressure

Radio Ga Ga

I Want It All

I Want To Break Free

These Are The Days Of Our Lives

The Show Must Go On

Pretty good, but how do you have a Queen compilation without Tie Your Mother Down, that’s like a Beatles compilation without Come Together , a Doors compilation without Light My Fire, a KISS compilation without Detroit Rock City, etc., I just can’t stand the idea of one of Queen’s best hits not being on a Greatest Hits album. Besides that, pretty good, I like how you split it up into their good era and bad era, nice touch.

I don’t think so. I like my username, which is short for heavy metal Beatles fan, as I am a fan of both heavy metal and The Beatles. To me, both of these albums sound good.
