Saw the show. The newspaper vehicle’s were cool and surely a reference to Lucy In The Sky. Other Beatle tracks i heard/saw were Because (at the beginning), A Day In The Life (the first orchestral score and Pauls verse dramatised), Here Comes The Sun (award winners on display) and I Am The Walrus (sounded dreadful so fast forwarded – had recorded it and played it back later). Anyone hear any others?
Thought that having Freddie Mercury on the screens was wonderful, so much better than that 3D hologram nonsense being bandied about, Freddie had/has such stage presence and the crowd joined in. Johns face being built on stage as Imagine played was also fantastic, a worthy rememberance of him. And Eric Idle doing Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life (which has a George link) was another highlight.
Skipped Queen and Jessie J as well.
It was a very good ceremony closer closing a very enjoyable Games.

Boy, this is Long John Silver’s moment!
Not just “Imagine ” but Lennon shown “live” singing it (when did his front tooth get chipped again?). And then the 3D rendition of his bust – lying down. Both cool and creepy!
I liked “I Am The Walrus “; then again, I liked Jim Carrey’s version too!

Ohh, and I think those blue uniform guys standing on lines with light bulbs were a reference to IAtW, if I’m not mistaken! It was funny how the Finnish commentator said something like ” The Beatles Music has been the basis of music for this Olympics, but now something else… Ohh, it’s Beatles again. Nevermind” ( well, actually it was just John Lennon , but I forgive him)
And I was pretty much right about how they were gonna perform Imagine on the stage 
But where was Elton?? I suppose he didn’t want to be part of the Olympics for some reason
The whole show was amazing, I enjoyed it even more than the opening ceremony, most of the performers were great, although I was a little disappointed in the Who, which, I suppose, was the main artist( group) that evening
I did like Muse, but what’s with that beard 
it so not fits him

Great show, British people showed to the world at what they are best at, and that is music. So much wonderfull music by Beatles, The Who, Queen, Muse… and it was just so well organised and perfromed. I think every Englishman was the most proud in the world that day.

They are one of most famous active bands right now, weird you didn’t hear about them. Their last album is their best so I suggest listening to that one first.

Never heard Muse before, sounded pretty good. Hated that version of “I Am The Walrus ” – why not get Steve Martin to do “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer ” as Maxwell Edison (ala the Sgt. Pepper movie) for the same results? Never watched Oasis before, but I see that Liam Gallagher little more stage charisma than he has vocal talent. Got a laugh at “Pink Floyd! Well, actually Pink Floyd’s drummer plus three blokes.” (Some of whom may be famous; don’t ask me.) Have no idea what all those “Fashion” models had to do with anything at all. Nor the Indian music intrusion into Eric Idle’s segment. I guess none of it was truly awful tho.

Liam Gallagher pretty much lost his voice after the 90’s, but back in the 90’s he had an awsome voice… today it is just weird.

Offline I was happy that there was such a Beatles presence in the closing ceremonies. And I really didn’t mind Russel Brand doing I Am The Walrus , I thought it was funny. The Pet Shop Boys were so weird in their pointy-hat costumes… but then again they were always weird from what I understand. That’s a band I could do without. A lot of those bands I could do without, but I suppose they wanted everyone to be able to enjoy the ceremony.

Offline The Pointy Hats are part of the Pet Shop Boys persona going back years. They have had some fantastic songs over the years like Always On My Mind, Go West & Its A Sin and the song they played live at the Closing Ceremony, West End Girls, is a classic UK song.

I did somewhat like some of what Oasis did on their first coupla albums, but never could abide their singing (or their awful drum sound.) The way Liam would take a word like “rain” and invariably bend it into something like “riiiiaaaaeeeennnn”, like his larynx was some kinda out-of-tune sitar or something…yeesh.
Paulsbass, I only mentioned Steve Martin singing Maxwell because that would be equally embarrassing and unmusical. (Plus, y’know, it already happened!)(Can’t provide youtube link because I’m at work, sorry…)

I forgot to mention the KAISER CHIEFS!
Never really heard of them, but damn, did he sound like Daltrey when he sang Pinball Wizard.
I love the Kaiser Chiefs. Don’t get me wrong, their music is mostly nothing special, but I find them charming.
