Hello! I’ve been lurking for a couple of weeks, and decided to introduce myself. I became a Beatles fan when I was 8 in the late ’70s when I caught reruns of the cartoon. I wasn’t allowed to listen to pop music at the time – classical music only – so it became a badly-kept secret that I was cheating the rules by watching the show. I only had two albums – Help ! borrowed from my father’s collection, and Yesterday and Today – the one album I was allowed to buy (I took the opportunity seriously and chose a compilation). As a kid, my favorite songs were Eleanor Rigby and Yesterday , probably because of classical music leanings.

I kept up with Paul’s solo career during the 80s, but due to the childhood musical restrictions, the fact the cartoon ended after “Revolver ” and financial limitations, I didn’t get a chance to familiarize myself with latter-Beatles music (which I always called “druggie Beatles”) until fairly recently.

Since then I’ve been doing a lot of catch-up! My all-time favorite since college has been Norwegian Wood , but I’m all over the place after that. Right now I’m listening a lot to Tomorrow Never Knows , I Want You So Bad, Mother Nature’s Son and You Know My Name (Look Up the Number), plus early songs like Yes It Is , A Taste Of Honey and Don’t Bother Me .

I realize my memories of the Beatles will forever be tied to that cartoon. I still see sing-along animations in my head when I listen to the early music. It took me forever to reconcile real George’s voice with fake George. a-hard-days-night-george-10

Thanks for providing the forum, it’s been entertaining!

Hello!  I realize I should’ve done this before I started posting earlier :-) . I’ve been a reader and lurker of this site for over a year (but I’m a veteran of lots of message boards online, even a moderator on one, so I hopefully won’t step on toes here!).

I’ve been an absolute fanatical Beatles fan basically from birth because of my parents and my uncle. I really immersed myself in them in the mid-to-late 80s when I was a kid and have never looked back. Not sure what else to write but if you are curious about anything, just ask!

Happy to be here and looking forward to lots of great Beatles conversationsa-hard-days-night-john-5

Gahh!!!! I’ve been posting on this forum for over a week and I didn’t formally introduce myself yet!!!!

So here we go:

My name is Autumn. I was born in America and I live in America and I’ve never left America and I really wish I traveled more. I didn’t like (or really even know about) the Beatles until I was 11 or 12, but ever since then I’ve been a complete Beatles nut. I guess I have to thank my mom for that because one day she randomly put the White Album in the CD player and I was like, “Whoa, this is great! Who is this?” And then I was obsessed. My favorite Beatle is George because his music and lyrics are amazing (both with the Beatles and in his solo career) and he was a very interesting person (and IMO he was the best-looking of the Fab Four).  My favorite Beatles album is Abbey Road , but Revolver and the White Album and Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Rubber Soul are all really close. I’m not sure of the exact order. It changes. My favorite Beatles song is (does this count?) the medley on Abbey Road (from You Never Give Me Your Money to The End ). If that doesn’t count, then my favorite is either Something or Here Comes The Sun . My favorite thing about the Beatles is the diversity of their music. They go from Love Me Do to Norwegian Wood to Taxman to Penny Lane to Within You Without You to Rocky Raccoon to Don’t Pass Me By to Honey Pie  to Revolution 9 to The Long And Winding Road to Octopus’s Garden and it’s just amazing.

I love technology, music, reading and writing, drawing, and being annoyingly confusing and random, sometimes by being too logical (the universe is impossible because it can’t go on forever but there can’t be an end to it unless there’s something on the other side of it and I don’t know what that would be perhaps Heaven but I’m not very religious no offense anyway how can the universe be ever-expanding what is it expanding into? And time is impossible because how could it start what was before it how could it be nothing and then suddenly time yet how could there have been time forever and what is forever anyway?). I’d say I’m pretty smart, although I don’t want to toot my own horn or anything. I play the piano and I’m a singer. I have written several songs but none of them are that good. I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I won’t write with any pencil except a mechanical one or a Dixon Ticonderoga. I love the computer game Minecraft. I keep a dream journal, and dreams and the meanings of them really interest me. I also like stuff that involves thinking outside of the box, like brainteasers and riddles and stuff. I speak Pig Latin fluently.

My favorite holiday is Christmas because I love spending time with my family. (It also doesn’t hurt that I get gifts.) My favorite colors are blue and green because they remind me of nature, which I really care about. My favorite food is chocolate cake. My favorite beverage is root beer. My favorite seasons are spring, because of the weather, and autumn, because the weather is nice in early autumn, plus it’s my name. My favorite animals are turtles, cats, and owls. My favorite type of chocolate is dark chocolate. My least favorite holiday is New Year’s Day because I hate making resolutions. My least favorite color is really bright neon orange because it reminds me of construction sites and stuff like that. My least favorite food is pistachio pudding. My least favorite beverage is anything cherry-flavored because I hate artificial cherry flavoring. My least favorite season is… none, really. My least favorite animal is… none. My least favorite type of chocolate is white chocolate.

That’s me in a three-paragraph-long nutshell.

My turn then! :) I’ll TRY to make it short:

I was born in September 1996, in Norway. My journey with The Beatles started when I was very little(think about 9 years old) when I heard “Hey Jude ” on my big brothers computer. It blew my mind, the best song Id ever heard. I werent a Beatles fan yet, I just had heard of them and loved that song.

I was quite a reader when I was younger, and I often went to the library. One day I saw The Beatles ‘Abbey Road ‘ album there, and I borrowed it hoping that Hey Jude would be on it. (It wasnt, lol) But anyways, I read books in the evening in my room and put the cd on. Once again, The Beatles blew me away. I still remember the tracks I listened to OVER and OVER again: Something , Maxwells Silver Hammer, Octopus Garden, I Want You and Oh Darling.

I didnt listen very much to the Beatles after that, until summer 2010. I checked out The Beatles, and AGAIN: BLEW ME AWAY!

I remember finding “new” songs I had never heard before on YouTube, like: Blackbird , Michelle , It Wont Be Long, Hello Goodbye , A Day In The Life etc. Kept adding and adding songs on my ipod.

Even though I didnt become a “fan” before 2010, The Beatles have been with me for many years. They are, will always be the best band in the world.

Welcome to tkj and to Autumn.  I just barely feel like I’m not a freshman newbie around here, since I only joined recently, on November 1 (but I have racked up a respectable 193 posts so far).  tkj’s description of his discovery of the Beatles, basically by a teenager in the late 90s forward is interesting, because I’ve always wondered what “kids” these days think whenever they hear a Beatles song the first time.  I’m sure I’m biased, but I just cannot conceive anyone not liking the Beatles.  On the flip side of the coin, it would be fascinating to hear a “youngster” who dislikes the Beatles articulate exactly why he or she feels that way.

To Autumn, I’ve long had a question about Pig Latin:  How would you say “Ebay” in Pig Latin…?

Well, since you just add “ay” to the end of words that begin with vowels (you don’t put the first letter on the end), it would be Ebay-ay. Easy to write, tricky to say. Try it.

I didn’t know about that rule for words that begin with vowels.  Would it be cheating to sort of “bounce” on the first “y” and sort of use it to pivot from the syllable to syllable?  Like so:

“Ebay-yay” — makes it slightly easier.

I just thought of a silly one: “Stay away” = Ay-stay away-ay, which if you pronounce the second word with that “yay”, makes it sound even more comical.

No, I don’t think it would be cheating to say “Ebay-yay.” That’s how it would usually come out, unless you say “Ebay-ay” with a pause, like “Ebay – ay,” but that sounds kind of weird.

Now, please ay-stay away-yay from me!

My name is Madison (I plan to get it changed when I turn 18 because of the girl jokes), and I have loved the Beatles for as long as I can remember. Of all of them, Ringo is my favorite, which is weird, considering I play guitar. At least that means I’m not biased because of my instrument.

Anyways, I was born in ’97, and I always loved music. I started playing trumpet in band when I was about 10, then moved to tuba when the other player was expelled for reasons not appropriate for posting. I still play tuba, but I played baritone for a year in marching band before going to sousaphone. Now I will be playing guitar in jazz band, that is, when I get finished transposing Twist & Shout and possibly I Wanna Hold Your Hand (need to ask the director if he plans on playing it). I plan to pick up bass guitar as well when I scrap some money together (can’t get a job until April). I’m a bit a music prodigy, and the director says he will help me get into the conservatory here in town when I graduate. Here’s a hint as to which one: It is the only professional music school to be honored by President Barack Obama. Yeah, that one.

You’ll all probably be hearing me perform in a few years, god willing. Until then, I plan to record some of my songs (I’ve written several in the past week) and link them here for your hearing pleasure. Peace! a-hard-days-night-ringo-15

Yeah, the pause would sound like when a person says “AA” (acronym for Alcoholics Anonymous).

I’m getting hooked on Pig Latin now.  I took your line and was thinking how it sounded with the “from me” also done, and realized that Pig Latin “from” sounds sort of like “Humphrey”, leading me to pronounce that in turn:  “Umphrey-hay”.

That morphed into

“Humphrey from Comfrey afraid of Friday”

Then, when I do hear you perform, I can say, “Hey, I know him! I once replied to his post on the Beatles Bible Fab Forum!”

:)

P.S. Can’t wait to hear your songs!

P.P.S. I think I know what conservatory you’re talking about, but I don’t want to post it in case you don’t want others to know, considering you didn’t post it openly. Or were you just trying to make us do a little work and figure it out ourselves?

LOL!!!

OL-LAY!!!

By the way, 2 things:

1) “Afraid” would be “afraid-ay,” not “fraid-ay.” Was that just a typing mistake?

2) Just so you know, when a word starts with a blend of letters (e.g. brown), you move the blend to the end: own-bray. I see you already did that with “Friday” (iday-Fray). Just reiterating.

:D

Well, I know a lot of other teens who dislike The Beatles. Most of these are ignorant girls from 13-17, who seriously thinks Justin Bieber has the best voice in the world. (I even had a debate with them once, they think they would still love him and think he’s the best, even if he werent good looking.. Gee!)

The reason why a lot of teens dont like The Beatles is because they just want something new and fresh all the time. Its considered ‘uncool’ to like something older than 2 years old. We want new phones, computers, new artists to love, new movies and games. New everything. I think teenage girls dont use their ears when they choose whats a good artist or not, they just use their eyes. Justin Bieber has an ordinary voice, got people to write for him, and his songs are average at best. Still some of these girls claim: He is the best artist ever. Its crazy.

The youth of today are surrounded with so much bullshit that they cant see whats really pure and beautiful, such as The Beatles’ music. It really pisses me off when I think about it. I also think a lot of the teens who like the Beatles is because they’ve grew up with The Beatles by their parents. For me however, this is not the case.

@Funny Paper, I pronounce AA as “æ” as in “At”. Or “Ah”. Or double a-ay, sometimes rofl

To them, Justin Bieber is the greatest artist to have ever lived and has the greatest voice ever. It’s not crazy, he’s very popular right now for a reason; many people love his music. You might think that his voice is only average, but that’s only an opinion. People say the same thing about The Beatles, that none of them are “real” musicians, or any good at what they did. Justin Bieber does write most of his songs, so you’re obviously making things up because you need more reasons to dislike him. Also, teenage girls do use their ears when they decide on whether or not they like an artist. If they only did use their eyes, then people like Lady Gaga, LMFAO, and Ke$ha wouldn’t be half as popular as they are (or were). Just because you don’t like what’s on the radio doesn’t mean nobody else should. What makes your opinions so much better than those of anybody else?

The youth of today are surrounded with so much bullshit that they cant see what’s really pure and beautiful, such as The Beatles’ music. It really pisses me off when I think about it. Why does that make you angry? Not everybody is going to like The Beatles. I seriously doubt any of the Beatles cared about not being loved by every person in the world, it would be stupid if they did. You can tell yourself the reason so many kids nowadays don’t like The Beatles is they’re just ignorant, or whatever else, but that’s wrong. All those kids who claim Justin Bieber is the greatest artist to ever live, and has the best voice in the world say that because that’s how they feel. You think The Beatles are, and so do I, but that doesn’t mean anybody who thinks different is ignorant.

All living things must abide by the laws of the shape they inhabit
