The box set is beautiful. I’m on a massive Harry trip right now. One Amazon.co.uk review said it was the best box set since The Beatles in Mono, and I’m inclined to agree.

They just played an ad for the set during Breakfast with the Beatles, and they did it in a way that was reminiscent of old 70s Ronco Records ads. At the end of it, the announcer says, “It’s a total trip. Get on it.”

Pop Market are currently offering an exclusive Nilsson book set and box set (the RCA Albums Collection) at a reduced price of 36% off (offer ends at 6pm Thursday 8th August). You have to sign in to get the price but the site is legit as i’ve ordered from there before.

It’s way cheaper on amazon.co.uk – most US fans seem to be importing it from there.

Fab Four FAQ 2.0 posted that today is the anniversary of an animated special conceived and written by Nilssion called The Point, along with a link.

I’m watching this now, and noticed that the voice of the king sounded familiar. He’s played by Paul Frees, who played John and George in the Saturday morning cartoon.

The Point! was narrated by Ringo in one incarnation (the first video release, I think). The part was originally played by Dustin Hoffman. The album’s good too – Nilsson narrates and sings. Great for kids and adults with wild imaginations.

It came out a month before I was born and I’d never heard of it. I wish I had, I loved it!

Both narrations are available on YouTube.

June 15 is Nilsson’s birthday, and Saturday with the Beatles played his version of You Can’t Do That which Joe linked to in the first post of this thread. Here’s a post from the Fab Four FAQ 2.0 Facebook:

Also on June 15: On this day in 1941, Harry Nilsson was born.

And here he is to tell you all about it (in a rare appearance before an audience), with a real life childhood history nearly as harrowing as John Lennon ‘s. This song was the inspiration for That’ll Be The Day – the film that proved, once for all, that Ringo had some acting chops.

and:

While the friendship between John and Harry – close as it was – more or less came to a halt once John ended his separation from Yoko in early 1975, Harry and Ringo’s friendship endured. The latter was best man at the former’s 1976 wedding, and in 1980, the two collaborated on the song “How Long Can Disco On,” for the Flash Harry album (to be reissued on CD in August this year.)

Ringo covered a Harry song for 1974’s Goodnight Vienna album: “Easy For Me.” (When recorded it himself for Duit on Mon Dei the following year, it was renamed “Easier For Me”): http://grooveshark.com/s/Easie…..mk7c?src=5
