It will be cool to hear these shows all the way through. I wonder if it is possible to see the video footage as seen in Scorsese’s No Direction Home along with the full soundboard recordings.

Paul’s latest “You gave me the answer…” post is about Dylan.
Guillem asked: “Bob Dylan recently took part in a tribute album featuring your songs. If you were to cover one of Dylan’s songs, which would you choose?”
…
“Thank you Guillem. That’s a very difficult question to answer, as there are so many great songs. I mean, ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’ just comes to mind because it’s something you could cover. Singing Dylan songs can be difficult because something like ‘Like A Rolling Stone’, it’s so Dylan that it would be hard to get the spirit that he puts on it. ‘A Hard Rain ’s A-Gonna Fall’ is another good one, you know. I’d put that on a list as well.”

It sure is. On the cover of Nashville Skyline, Bob gives a tip of his hat to George Harrison as a thank you for giving him the guitar he holds in his left hand.

I just picked up the Bootleg Series Vol. 1-3 for $20 today so I’m pretty excited. It should keep me busy for a while in any case.
I’m also looking to get my hands on some Basement Tapes recordings, so I’m wondering whether to get the Basement Tapes album that came out in the 70’s, or the two-disc version of the Bootleg Series Vol. 11.
Grooving some cookie spaghetti since 1968.

The Bootleg Series Volume 11, @limitlessundyinglove, would be my recommendation.
The original Basement Tapes, as compiled by Robbie Robertson, was an exercise in photoshopping to make the sessions look more of a meeting of equals than the classroom where Dylan would guide The Hawks onto the path from which The Band emerged.
24 tracks. Only sixteen actually from the sessions, with the remaining eight being Band outtakes ranging from 1967 to 1975 (being purposely muddied to give them a consistent sound) – giving the false impression of the sessions being a pretty equal back and forth of songs. Robertson would make the ridiculous claim at the time that Dylan would teach them about the folk tradition while they educated him about early rock and roll and things like Sun Records.
The idea that Bobby – who’d attempted multiple versions of That’s All Right, Mama (with a band) during the sessions for Freewheelin’ and had another go at it during the Times sessions – needed Robbie to teach him about Elvis at Sun is laughable.
Worse still, Robbie interfered with the tapes, including overdubbing many of them, and took the stereo tapes and collapsed them into mono, while leaving off what many would have considered no-brainers for inclusion even back in 1975, such as Quinn the Eskimo and I Shall Be Released.
With the release of Volume 11, the original album becomes a footnote, a curio.
38 tracks as opposed to sixteen, in stereo, with the tracks Robbie had interfered with appearing without his meddling or in alternate versions. I may well have come up with a different two-disc highlights set, but it’s difficult to fault the official. Length dictates that some absolute gems are missing.

Now that I have these shows, I have been tearing through. My favorite part of every show is when he starts singing “I ain’t looking to compete with you” in All I Really Want To Do the audience will applaud fanatically everytime without fail. I’ve begun to join in myself.

New song I Could Have Told You off of the new album Triplicate has Bob singing better than i’ve heard him any other song this century.
Maybe Triplicate references his habit of doing trilogies, as it is the the third album of old covers.

Also @Expert Textpert you should listen to some live stuff from 62-66. It makes his acoustic stuff more accessable.
