Since you would be setting the clocks two and a half hours back instead of an hour back which would desync the BBh clock with normal time.

DST is not necessary and would overcomplicate time.

What are your reasons for having DST on Beatles Bible Island?

Nah. TV shows are pretty much always on the hour so I could just make a chart under the spoiler of what BBh time corresponds to a 24hr notation hour.

0=0, 1:20=1, 3=2, 4:20=3, 6=4, 7:20=5, 9=6, 10:20=7, 12=8 , 13:20=9 , 15=10, 16:20=11 , 18=12 , 19:20=13 , 21=14 , 22:20=15 , 24=16 , 25:20=17 , 27=18, 28:20=19, 30=20 , 31:20=21, 33=22, 34:20=23,

Though you don’t have to use the BBh time.

The only practical purpose it would serve is unifying how people measure time.

Maybe in the US they are but here in the UK TV shows start at a vast multitude of times such as Columbo today which began at 4:50pm. ‘The Voice’ begins at 7:50pm; ‘Casualty’ at 9:10pm.

Isn’t having 36 hour time completely pointless if it is the same length as a 24 hour day?

Yes.

Edit: Though the amount of hours in a day is arbitrary anyway. ahdn_paul_01

It used to be 20 hours.

Wait , so if a 36 hour day is equal to the 24 hour day, would an hour be shorter during a 36 hour day because their the same length of time?

Wait . Dont we all measure time by 24 hours. So why are we unifying time so it measures the same? Can’t we all just sync our watches to a certain hour and go from there? Everyone who comes to stay gets their own pre-synced Apple Beatles Watch and no one has to get their maths book, chalkboard, chalk and calculator out when they want to arrange what time dinner is at a week on Sunday.

More info here.

Sure. The minor confusetion came from the fact that some people use 12hr notation while others use 24.

Someone asks for the time and they say 15:45 and that would confuse people who use 12hr time.

3:45 in 12 hour time is more confusing. 15:45 can only be one time and people who prefer 12hr will still know what it means

Does anybody really know what time it is…

If you are at the BB house, who cares what time it is? One can sleep and wake whenever they please and I’ve had DVR’s installed in every room (yes, even the loos) that include every movie and TV show ever made making it a moot point as to what time a show “comes on”. Leave your watches, clocks and sun dials at home ladies and lords.

But if you don’t ever pay any attention to measurement of time them you won’t be able to remember the important dates

Or I can be the official BBHouse Date Rememberer and remind you all when it’s somebody’s birthday. I’m usually pretty good at remembering dates.

Knowing what day it is will not be a problem. Know what time of day it is will not be worried about.

Don’t worry I built a calendar just for that

Image Enlarger

I’m not happy with the month names. More info under the spoiler!

After listening to Eight Days A Week by the Beatles for around the 245th time I wondered about what and Eight Day A Week calendar would look like so I decided to make one. I uploaded it here for peer review.

Overview

The calendar has 8 days a week, 30 days a month, 265 days on common years and 266 days on leap years and starts on year 0.

Name of Calendar

I thought about a few names and the name Beatleian Calendar seemed like the best choice since the Georgian Calendar already existed. If anyone has a better name feel free to share.

Days of the week

I (obviously) put eight days per week instead of seven. The extra day is called Sitarday since looking around, that was the most common way to say that day. Sitarday on the calendar is between Saturday and Sunday and would be a weekend day. Sitarday would be like the hump day of the weekend.

Month names

I decided to keep the names of the months the same for now. I thought about naming each month after the albums but I wasn’t sure how to do that in an easy to say way that wouldn’t get confused for the album itself.

I also thought about naming the months after Beatles girlfriends and wives but there weren’t enough significant wives and girlfriends to make that work.

So for now, the month names are unchanged. If anyone has any comments on what the month names should be or how to make the album names work for a calendar.

Month length

One problem with the Gregorian calendar is that every year you would have to make another one and I would rather not make a bunch of calendars so instead I made it so every month had 30 days each so that the year always ends and starts on the same day and that all the months would be even.

Extra days/Beatles Week

By making the months all 30 days I had 5-6 extra days left over and Eight Days A Week Is not enough to show I care so I created a monthless week called Beatles week that is either 5 or 6 days long that is considered a vacation week that transitions from one year to the next.

Year

The calendar would start on year 0 and starts on the gregorian year 1926 since that is when the first Beatles related person George Martin was born and is the start of Beatles history. The year starts on January 1st even though George Martin was born on January 3 so that it would be easier to use with the Gregorian calendar. The calendar starts on year 0 since when George Martin was born, he was 0 years old

Leap Year

There will be leap years and the rules for the leap years will be the same as the Gregorian calendar the rules are:

Every year that is evenly divisible by 4 is a leap year except (4, 8 , 12,. . )

if the year is evenly divisible by 100 unless (100, 200, 300 . ., common years)

it is evenly divisible by the year 400 (400, 800, . . , leap years)

The Beatleian calendar will start off with year 0 as a leap year.

Date notation

Notating the date is year/month/day so that the longest length of time is first and the shortest length of time is last.

Years before the calendar

Years before year 0 would be notated as negative numbers so for example, my Grandpa was born in the year before 0 so he would be born in the -1 year.

Converting the Gregorian calendar dates to the Beatleian calendar

Depending on the day it could be converted in a few ways.

  1. It could be converted symbolically where if their is a holiday that falls on December 3rd on the Gregorian calendar, it could just be put on December 3rd on the Beatlian calendar.
  2. If the date included the year, like a birthday, it could be converted accurately depending on when the event occurred on the Beatleian calendar. Here (annadog40.deviantart.com/art/G…) is a link where I show how to convert days from the Gregorian calendar to the Beatleian Calendar.
  3. This third method involves calculating the date on a yearly bases so that the dates stay at the same time as they would on the Gregorian calendar. The date of the event would change every year. This is not an optimal method since it would require changing the calendar each year to notate the holiday.

I think method 2 would be the best for transferring Beatles dates.

Beatley Dates

Here are some dates that could potentially serve as holidays on the Beatleian calendar:

13/7/7 – Ringo Starr ’s birthday

13/10/11 – John Lennon ’s birthday

15/6/17 – Paul McCartney ’s birthday

16/2/26 – George Harrison ’s birthday

30/7/7 – Paul meets John

35/10/8 –  Love Me Do /P.S. I Love You released in UK.

37/2/7 – Beatles arrive in the U.S.

37/2/9 –  Debut on ‘Ed Sullivan Show’

38/8/17 – Beatles perform at Shea Stadium.

39//8/1 – Last concert at Candlestick Park

40/6/2 – Pepper released

42/1/29 – Rooftop concert

43/4/7 – Paul McCartney announces the end of the Beatles

Please share your thoughts about the calendar and any suggestions that you have.
