So I saw the album a few months back but chalked it up to being a mere compilation so I didn’t get it (Why get songs that I already own you know?).
However I’ve been looking around and it seems that they actually remixed the songs and word has it that they sound incredible. Is it a really good and worthy investment or should I not worry about it? I was looking at reviews on Amazon but I realized I’d trust the opinion of the members on this site more! I was just about to order it but I thought I’d ask first. Thanks in advance!

The YSS is certainly worth getting but, certainly for me, its impact has lessened since the remasters came out in 2009 as the sound quality on the remasters is so much clearer than the ’87 cds we had to bear with for years.
Some of the remixes are better than the original mixes in my opinion (Love You To which sounds fabulous remixed, Eleanor Rigby has Pauls vocal centered) but some are not (Hey Bulldog , Lucy In The Sky).
You may want to wait for the reissue of YSS in May which should be remastered (cant remember if it definately is or not), bringing it in line with the studio albums and Anthology discs. Was Love remastered when added to the itunes download catalogue?

Thank you so much for your reply! I;m sure I can wait until May if they are going to re release it anyway. I had no idea it was about to be released again. I would love to hear Paul’s vocals centered on that song. That’s one reason I don’t like listening to Eleanor Rigby now in headphones.
I’m not sure about ‘Love’ being remastered but I do remember a lot of the songs sounded better to me on their than the remastered. I had no idea how different the remastered sounded compared to the original cd releases until recently. I’ve had Sgt Pepper on cd since maybe 2007 and just bought the remastered a few weeks ago and fell in love with that album again! It’s crazy how good it sounds now!
Thank you so much again!

Beatles Examiner report on the reissue of yellow submarine dvd & songtrack. The dvd has been delayed by a week so not sure if thats the same for the songtrack.
Strange there has been no announcement of the album being added to the itunes catalogue, and would be nice if they finally released the uncut complete 8 minute 20 second Its All Too Much as a bonus track. For Love we got the previously unreleased Girl and Fool On The Hill cuts, tho we got nothing when the Anthologies were added.

Yeah, too bad they didn’t make the uncut version of “It’s All Too Much ” available — particularly since the ‘lost verse’ is included in the movie . Either way, this album still has the only true stereo mix of “Only a Northern Song” that’s out there. Now, if we could get a true stereo mix of “I Am The Walrus “…

Well its since appeared on many bootlegs and sounds fantastic.
Its also on Love in true stereo but that has additional effects, noises and the like added and shouldnt be seen or treated as the commercial standard verison.

I read that it was but then reportedly so were the Anthology discs when they were made available on iTunes and few can hear any difference with those.
The thing is, the digipak doesn’t say 2012 anywhere on it. It has the exact same info as the 1999 disc, just the catalogue number is different, and the booklet is different. I read from one source that the digipak has slight limiting applied to it, whereas the 1999 disc does not.

According to this report it was remastered
As for the remastered Yellow Submarine Songtrack , the new edition will join the other recent Beatles catalogue remasters. For the 1999 Songtrack, the songs from Yellow Submarine were remixed from the original multi-track tapes, so there are numerous differences to the familiar versions of songs such as “Yellow Submarine ,” “Eleanor Rigby ,” “All Together Now ” and “Only A Northern Song .” The Songtrack features nearly every Beatles song in the film (“A Day In The Life ” is not included) but drops George Martin’s seven instrumental score tracks from the Beatles’ original Yellow Submarine release. That album, of course, was included in the first wave of Beatles remasters in 2009.
However in the comments section of a Wogblog report on the 2012 YS reissues is this comment
Format:Audio CD
Hi, I wanted to let customers know that the 2012 Yellow Submarine Songtrack has the same sound as the 1999 cd (same mastering/mixes). The only difference is the packaging. The 2012 cd is housed in a digipak case (like the 2009 stereo remasters) while the 1999 cd is in a jewel case. I love the mixes on this album. The guitars and other instruments on “Love You To ” really stand-out now vs the original mix from Revolver . Plus, for the completists, “Only A Northern Song ” is in true stereo. This is the only album that features “Only A Northern Song ” in true stereo (1969 LP Stereo Version is fake stereo, Anthology 2 ‘s stereo version is from alternate takes, & the 2009 remaster on Yellow Sub album is true mono as no stereo version exists of the original mix). This digipak is a welcome addition to my stereo remasters black box.
Check out the Wikipedia page for more information on the mixes.
Thank you for reading!
Chris
And no vinyl.
So i’d go with its the same as ’99 in a digipack.

So, is it worth having this if I already have Yellow Submarine and all the others? I’ve been wondering about getting it, but I do have a few albums definitely ahead of it.
EDIT: 750 for Rishikesh! One away from the big time! (Though it is 250 more posts)

Its worth having the Songtrack as the songs themselves were remixed in 1999 from the original master tapes. If you mean if its worth having the 2012 issue then no, not unless you want the new packaging as the tracks haven’t been touched so are in no way different to the 1999 release.

Yeah, I see that the consensus on Hoffman forums is it’s the same CD. There is only one person on Amazon commenting that it is different and sounds better (I think I read someone quoting this person and assumed it was true). Oh well, at least I have a copy that matches my other digipak versions now.

Yeah, it doesn’t have A Day In The Life . Not really sure why, I mean, if Think For Yourself is on there…
