I was influenced to do this after reading the Last Album, Abbey Road or Let It Be thread.
Personally, i don’t consider Yellow Submarine to be a proper Beatles album because it’s a Beatles/GMO split and The Beatles aren’t even present on side 2 but if i did, i would place it before The Beatles because the songs weren’t just recorded before The White Album but were released before them as well, as the film which contains all 4 previously unreleased songs was first released on 17 July 1968 whereas The Beatles wasn’t released until 22 November 1968.

Well chronologically the Yellow Submarine album was released after The White Album so I would say that the White Album came first.

Well, I certainly WISH they’d released YS the same time the film came out (i.e. July ’68), since they hadn’t completely exited their ‘psychedelic phase’ as far as public releases by that time (though they had in the studio) it feels less awkward hearing it before the White Album in their canon.

To be honest, had they released Yellow Submarine as a 4 song EP instead of a Beatles/GMO split album, it could’ve easily been released earlier that that, it could’ve gotten as early as a May 1968 release had they chose to make it an EP.

Again, the EP would’ve been *five* songs (“Across The Universe ” was intended to be included as a bonus), and, again, you can blame my fellow countrymen for never really buying into EPs.

I’m pretty sure that Across The Universe was only going to be on the EP that was going to be released in response to the negative publicity from the album in March 1969, correct me if i’m wrong but there’s nothing stating that had they released Yellow Submarine as an EP in June or July of 1968 that the song would be released as a bonus.

I do know that the Yellow Submarine album has been getting a lot of attention in the last month or so.

We have a thread on how ‘Yellow Submarine ‘ could have been released. Discuss it there if you must but don’t regurgitate it here. Stay on topic.

Personally, i place Yellow Submarine before The BEATLES because the film, containing all 13 songs, was released on 17 July 1968 whereas the White Album wasn’t released until 22 November. This is also why i place Let It Be after Abbey Road since only Get Back was released beforehand.

On a playlist, I put “Only A Northern Song “, “It’s All Too Much ” (along with the last half of MMT) after Peppers and before MMT. “All Together Now ” and “Hey Bulldog ” between MMT and White.
The YS album I tuck in between MMT and White.
