What do you think would have it been better if “Yellow Submarine ” album was released in “Magical Mystery Tour ” format, with other songs from 1968? For example, with following tracklist:
A side:
Yellow Submarine
Only A Northern Song
All Together Now
Hey Bulldog
It’s All Too Much
All You Need Is Love
B side:
Across The Universe
The Inner Light
Lady Madonna
Revolution
Hey Jude
“Yellow Submarine ” would have to be included, since it’s title song, and “All You Need Is Love ” is film’s central theme. Releasing those 4 single tracks on LP would be a good marketing trick, and including “Across The Universe ” would satisfy John, who was at the time so eager to release it, and fans, who would have a new classic on a new LP. John and Paul are both main authors of 4 songs, George has 3 songs, and Ringo also has a tune he sings. So it also satisfies some “criterias” of “usual” Beatles album.
Your opinion?

I think they should’ve released the scrapped EP in mid-1969 as they’d planned (and which ended up on Mono Masters) that contained the 4 new songs from the album and Across The Universe .

I always wondered why Yellow Submarine didn’t get a similar treatment like Magical Mystery Tour did by including the unreleased songs from the film plus the singles and b-sides from that year.
I know it makes for a scrappy album and I do enjoy George Martin’s compositions but it seems that people would rather a full album of Beatles songs rather than a split album so I think it would have improved the albums reputation somewhat.
I should also mention that I also wondered why they didn’t add It’s Only A Northern Song , It’s All Too Much , All Together Now onto the Magical Mystery Tour album as well but if those songs were added then the Yellow Submarine album would be drastically different.
And in the end the lunch you take is equal to the lunch you bake.

It’s a great idea but i think the track listing needs to be tinkered with:
Side A:
Yellow Submarine (with unused intro so the song has something new to offer)
It’s All Too Much (extended version)
Side B:
You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)
A lot better than The Beatles George Martin split album that took 6 months after the film’s debut to come out.

I like that you used the alternate version of Yellow Submarine and the extended version of It’s All Too Much .
My tracklist would be something like this.
Side 1: Song from the film Yellow Submarine .
1. Yellow Submarine (With unused intro)
4. Hey Bulldog
5. It’s All Too Much (Extended version)
Side 2: Assorted songs from 1967-1968.
7. Lady Madonna
10. Hey Jude
11. Revolution
12. You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)

Did the Anthology version have edits from 1969?
I was under the impression that version was completed in 1967 and was shelved and was worked on again in 1969 but I could be wrong.
If that is the case then I will remove it and make it an 11 track album. It still has quite a few long tracks so it wouldn’t be too short.

The version on ‘Anthology 2 ‘ was a newly created extended yet edited composite. It’s on ‘Anthology 2 ‘ as that’s when the track was started. All lead vocals were recorded in April 1969.

I totally agree it should have just included Beatle songs instead of the side 2 George Martin treatment.
Mr. Martin could have just released his own Y. S. soundtrack album.
Y.S. reminds me of the United Artist “A Hard Day’s Night ” & Capitols “Help !”. Total rip offs, when UK Parlophone gave you full Beatles songs of those 2 LPs

‘You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)’ wasn’t completed until April 1969 so would either be a substantially altered version, not on the album or the album held back by 6 months.
Who knows, maybe had they done this and did it for a summer 1968 release, maybe John and Paul would’ve recorded vocal parts early so the song is more suitable for release on an album.

I would hate for George Martin’s compositions to have never seen the light of day but I think they should have released it under his own name rather than a split album with the Beatles songs.
I have decided to remove You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) as it wouldn’t have been completed in time so here is my new tracklist:
Side A: Songs from the film Yellow Submarine .
1. Yellow Submarine (With unused intro to differencate from the Revolver version)
4. Hey Bulldog
5. It’s All Too Much (Extended version because why not?)
Side B: Assorted songs from 1967-1968.
7. Lady Madonna
10. Hey Jude
11. Revolution
And in the end the lunch you take is equal to the lunch you bake.

Here’s an interesting idea for this album, what if they did it like this.
Side A:
Songs from the Yellow Submarine sessions
1. Hey Bulldog
3. Lady Madonna
Side B:
Other stuff

I personally like the Yellow Submarine Songtrack and the way it plays through start the end. I will pick that track listing. It is more of a compilation by this time, but it still sounds great!
