The beatles could have made a with the beatles album without covers just with already recorded songs.

All original songs from with the beatles
+The 2 Singles From Me To You and She Loves You both with their bsides. The anthology mix of One After 909 . The 14th song is the hardest but in the compilation I made on my iPad i took I’ll be on my way from Live At The BBC .

I didn’t take I Want To Hold Your Hand because i think it was recorded after with the beatles

Once there was a way to get back homewards. Once there was a way to get back home; sleep pretty darling do not cry. And I will sing a lullaby

I like the addition of “One After 909 “, but am not too sure about the rest.

The 2 Singles From Me To You and She Loves You both with their bsides

Back in the day, singles were a great way to keep the music in front of as many people as possible for a price they could afford. If these songs were added to the album, it would either cheapen the album with the singles still out or they would have to come up with 2 other singles to replace them.

This is an interesting topic as I’m sure they could have made it all originals if they really wanted to. I like this album just fine, but I do think you had a good idea with replacing at least one of the covers with “OA909”.

Regardless, whatever you do, please don’t take away “You Really Got A Hold On Me “.a-hard-days-night-john-1

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

In my opinion With the Beatles has some great covers (Money, You Really Got A Hold On Me …) so I haven’t ever thought of replacing them…

I have to disagree with that. The Beatles were so busy during 1963. During this time period, they wrote songs on buses and in hotel rooms. Besides, the cover versions on the album make it better, especially “Till There Was You ,” and “You Rally Got a Hold on Me.”a-hard-days-night-john-1ahdn_paul_06

Indeed. Also, two of those single b-sides (“I’ll Get You ” and “Thank You Girl “) are, I think, as weak or weaker than WTB’s weakest originals.

I made my own version of With the Beatles

Side 1

It Won’t Be Long

All I’ve Got To Do

All My Loving

Don’t Bother Me

One After 909

From Me To You

I’ll Get You

Side 2

She Love You

This Boy

Please Mr. Postman

Roll Over Beethoven

You Really Got A Hold On Me

That’ll Be the Day (redone for the album)

I Wanna Be Your Man

I kept some of the covers that I thought should stay

The Incedibly True Story THat Never Ends. By Sam.

Best Friend: WHat are you listening to

Me: The Beatles

Best Friend: Go Figure

This is my custom version, I didn’t bother cutting the list down to 14 because, hey, Abbey Road has 17 songs, A Hard Days Night has only 13, why should I comform to regulations if they don’t.

Side one

1. It Won’t Be Long

2. All I’ve Got To Do

3. All My Loving

4. Don’t Bother Me

5. (She Loves You )

6. Little Child

7. Til There Was You

8. Please Mister Postman

9. Money (moved to side 1 closer)

Side two

10. Roll Over Beethoven

11. (I’ll Get You )

12. Hold Me Tight

13. You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me

14. I Wanna Be Your Man

15. (This Boy )

16. Devil In Her Heart

17 Not A Second Time

18. (I Want To Hold Your Hand )     (Best album closer ever)

From Me To You /Thank You Girl really would fit better on the Please Please Me album, which is where I’ve placed it. Same for 1 after 909.

I couldn’t do this because I don’t know about anyone else, but I like covers. Especially the ones on this album – I wouldn’t even be able to tell you the weakest one. I wouldn’t mind replacing some originals (such as Hold Me Tight ) with covers (Keep Your Hands Off My Baby, A Shot of Rhythm and Blues? I wouldn’t mind the record being more R&B-centred).

I must say that I agree, Starr Shine, as besides the first post, mine was the only one with only original compositions (although mine wasn’t entirely Lennon/McCartney).

Being a US release I never realised all but one song on ‘Meet The Beatles’ is an original. It’s not their US debut album but considering the non-Capitol releases did nothing until ‘IWTHYH’ hit that must have been some achievement.

I don’t think there was any widespread distribution of Introducing the Beatles until IWTHYH hit anyways.

Introducing… The Beatles was the only release before Meet The Beatles in the US as far as I know, and I…TB only came out like 10 days or so before MTB.

From Wiki:

….despite the claims of many older Beatles books and discographies that Introducing… The Beatles was first released on 22 July 1963,[11][12][13] no documentation exists to confirm that the album was released at any time in 1963.[14]

I’ve been reading books on the Beatles since god knows when and that’s what I was going by.
