Offline I just listened to the mono version, which is far better than the stereo mix, and I have to say this was maybe the first time that I didn’t feel like the album was too long. I enjoyed the whole thing.

Definitely it’s on my top 3, I just really enjoy the wild variety of it. Long, Long, Long is one of the most charming and underrated beatles songs. The White Album is a fun album bc you never’ll know what to expect and shows the four sides of the beatles very well.

Offline I always loved this album. I remember my Mum and I listened to it in the car on our way to somewhere. We only skipped Revolution 9 as it’s been our least favourite recording The Beatles have done.

it’s never felt too long to me
in fact, I find I listen to the whole thing in one go a lot more than I listen to individual songs by themselves
also, is it heresy if I think the 2018 mix is the best mix?

Offline The White Album is probably the most enigmatic and lore-filled album with a certain feel to it that no other Beatle album captures except for maybe Magical Mystery Tour . Claustrophobic would probably not be a good way to describe it, but many songs have, imo, a very individualistic/isolationist woodsy and misty aura over them that is audible even in the harder rocking songs (Ringo also said that they recorded Yer Blues in a tiny room together). They were probably somewhat influenced by Donovan who was great at capturing that kind of sound in many of his late 60’s songs, but also the whole Indian thing.
I didn’t really like The White Album at first, but over the years it has grown on me and is defnitely one of my favourite albums. Had they replaced Good Night , Don’t Pass Me By and Revolution 9 with Not Guilty , Junk and What’s The New Mary Jane it would have been even better, imo.
