That demo was quite interesting but I still don’t see what’s good about Glass Onion . I think they could have expressed that message in a much better format than what it is: an uninteresting melody with lyrics that lead nowhere. That’s my problem with the White Album , it’s just throwaway ideas that could have been brilliant if they’d been executed properly and with possibly the worst melodies in any of their studio era albums.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

As I understand it, it wasn’t actually a demo. I believe @Mean Mr. Mustard referred to it as an “outfake.” To me it sounded like the White Album version with some overdubs. Quite interesting…
Personally, I think the White Album is one of their best. Your enjoyment of a melody is subjective – to that criticism I can only say that my ears differ from yours. But for me it’s a fascinating patchwork. Sure there are songs that are fragmentary – like Why Don’t We Do It In The Road and Wild Honey Pie – but they serve as useful sonic bridges to the more fully realized songs. The album covers a wide variety of styles and subject matter and – most of all – paints a complete picture of the group at that particular moment. Interesting how they went from inventing a fictional alter-ego band to exposing themselves so thoroughly, a concept they would take even further with the Get Back project.
Anyway, I suppose it’s always a matter of taste, but for me they would never be more intimate and personal than they were on the White Album .

What I posted was the Beatles commercial version changed about with by non-Beatles people to give what was then falsely presented as a studio outtake, hence the term outfake. Such practice was and still is a common occurrence in bootleg land.

Yes definitely with the album ‘It’s flaws are as essential to it’s character as it’s triumphs’.
I think the individual songs often don’t work that well but together it’s a fascinating album. And it has some of my favorites including USSR, Prudence, Ob-La-Di, Gently Weeps, Blackbird , Yer Blues , Helter Skelter .
Looking back at my original post I would like to take back what I said about wishing the album was a single disc. It wouldn’t have the same charm for sure. Though I do wish they had slightly upped the good to bad song ratio.

I’m surprised to see such a massive Lennon fan include Ob La Di over both Dear Prudence and Happiness Is A Warm Gun .

I was trying to go for the crappiest version possible, but it does seem to have a nice overall theme of silliness to it. I might listen to it.
That being said, there is really nothing wrong with Ob-La-Di. It’s at least as good as Happiness Is A Warm Gun (just in a different way), although nothing beats Dear Prudence .

Can’t a disk fit like 100 minuets of songs?

But I think these sorts of exercises are generally about boiling it down to a single vinyl record of about 40-45 minutes. Technically a vinyl 33 1/3 LP could hold up to 30 minutes a side, I believe, but 40-45 was the standard album length…

The nitpicker in me has to point out that the eighty-minute limit applies to home-burned CDs. Commercially made CDs can exceed that. It is rare, but it does happen. The reason that this is generally avoided is that the longer the disc, the less likely the player is to be able to read it. But, some single-disc commercially-produced CDs have been known to run up to eighty-seven minutes long.

You can get blank CDs with 120 minutes. I got a sony super CD that could fit days of music. It uploads fine to the computer but i’m not sure if it has universal playability. Definetly won’t play in my car.

I wonder if the older ones are not compatible with longer discs.
Most likely. It’s usually the older CD players that have issues with playing CDs more than eighty minutes in length.

I do agree with a lot of people that The White Album should remain a double album but in the spirit of this thread I will compile my version of The White Album :
Side A
1.Back in U.S.S.R (2:43)
2.Dear Prudence (3:56)
3.Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da (3:08)
4.Glass Onion (2:17)
5.Blackbird (2:18)
6.While My Guitar Gently Weeps (4:45)
7.Happiness Is A Warm Gun (2:43)
Side B
8.Birthday (2:42)
9.Yer Blues (4:01)
10.Martha My Dear (2:28)
11.Savoy Truffle (2:54)
12.I’m So Tired (2:03)
13.Good Night (3:13)
14. Revolution #9 (8:22)
And because I will have my cake and eat it as well. I now present The Whiter Album:
Side A
1. Revolution 1 (4:15)
2.Mother Nature’s Son (2:48)
3.The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill (3:14)
4.Rocky Raccoon (3:33)
5.Piggies (2:04)
6.I Will (1:46)
7.Julia (2:54)
Side B
8.Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except For Me and My Monkey (2:24)
9.Don’t Pass Me By (3:51)
10.Long, Long, Long (3:04)
11.Sexy Sadie (3:15)
12.Honey Pie (2:41)
13.Cry Baby Cry (3:02)
14. Helter Skelter (4:29)
So Why Don’t We Do it in the Road? and Wild Honey Pie didn’t make the cut. The Whiter Album was a lot more mellow then I planned but to be honest I put more effort into the White Album then the Whiter album.
And in the end the lunch you take is equal to the lunch you bake.

That’s a great compilation. Interesting, you put I’m So Tired , Good Night and Revolution 9 in this order.
Not once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita. - Stephen T. Erlewine on Sgt Pepper's
