Maybe in theory. Offhand though, no: I can’t think of any comparable double album that manages to do everything the White Album does. Definitely can name ones that are more consistent overall, at least in my opinion; but none of them manage to touch all the bases that The Beatles does.

Why anyone would want to make the White Album into a single LP is beyond me. I may not like each song, but I definitely like more than 14 of them! But let’s play along and make *my* ideal White Album then…
In no particular order:
- Back In The USSR
- While My Guitar Gently Weeps
- I’m So Tired
- Blackbird
- Piggies
- I Will
- Birthday
- Mother Nature’s Son
- Everybody’s Got Something To Hide (Except Me And My Monkey)
- Sexy Sadie
- Helter Skelter
- Revolution 1
- Cry Baby Cry
- Good Night
Bonus Disc:
- Revolution
- Honey Pie
- Savoy Truffle
- Don’t Pass Me By
- Why Don’t We Do It In The Road?
- Julia
- Happiness Is A Warm Gun
And even after cheating with the bonus disc thing, there are still a few songs I wouldn’t have wanted to miss out on. If anything, I could even make it a triple album by adding some of the bootlegs.

Quite simply there is too much good material for a single album and maybe not quite enough for a double. This is masked by the clever sequencing. I suspect the beatles were trying to get through their contract with EMI quicker in releasing it as it was but i might be wrong on that score.
Anyway my go
1 Back In The USSR /Dear Prudence /Glass Onion /blackbird/While My Guitar Gently Weeps /Martha My Dear /Happiness Is A Warm Gun .
2 I’m So Tired /mother natures son/everybodys got something to hide/long,long,long/revolution1/helter skelter/Julia .
But an impossible task.

I’ve put this on another forum topic – but if you wanted to make the White Album a single album – just use John’s songs – it is an amazing record with just his tunes.not a knock against Paul or George – but using only Paul’s songs just doesn’t make as great an album.
This is a killer album:
The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill
I’m So Tired
Everybody’s Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey
Completely agree with that, but i would put first Glass Onion , then Bungalow Bill then Prudence, and then as you said.
And while my guitar instead of Revolution 9 , and Dont pass me by insted of good night…
but i really like it as it is, only track i always skip is obladi…

This is my first post, so i thought it should be on the very heated debate that is, the White Album as a single disc?
Side A
3) While My Guitar Gently Weeps
5) Yer Blues
6) Why Don’t We Do It In The Road?
7) Revolution 1
*Get up, walk over to record player, flip record over*
Side B
1) Glass Onion
2) Dear Prudence (transitions from violins at the end of Glass Onion )
3) Blackbird
6) Cry Baby Cry
7) Revolution 9
Why I left certain songs out:
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da – It’s a bit stupid
Wild Honey Pie – It’s a bit pointless
The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill – Yoko…
Piggies – Just kinda wierd…
Rocky Raccoon – Paul, you are from the wonderful Britain
I Will – Just a bit boring
Birthday – Bit stupid
EGSTHE4MAMM – Pointless
All of the others I wanted to include but couldn’t choose over my absolute favourites (even Revolution 9 , I admire how John realised he could get this kind of music maximum exposure, and would be played in millions of households).

A very high percentage of the time I read White Album solo record lists they leave out my favorite song, “Long, Long, Long.” So I am definitely satisfied with the double album.

Hum, not bad. I think I could listen to that… although I see you left off my namesake song, as usual.

Yes, this is an impossible task, but still a fun thought experiment. Like @castironshore said, too much good stuff for 1 album, but certainly a few we could cut from a double album if we absolutely had to.
Here’s my attempt at the impossible. I’m sticking with the 2 George, 1 Ringo rule – as well as rearranging the order to better suit the track listing. I’ve noticed a lot of people start with Back to the U.S.S.R. – don’t get me wrong, BttU followed by Dear Prudence is the perfect album opener. But for a single album, a different track listing would be appropriate. However, using Anthology stuff or the single version of Revolution is cheating! So here goes, White Album forcefully axed down to a single 14-track disc, best case scenario:
Side A
1. Revolution 1 – John’s first overt attempt to really speak out about world events, what a great opener this would have been
3. While My Guitar Gently Weeps – a no-brainer
6. Piggies – seems to rank low, but I love this song musically and lyrically and as a fan of Orwell’s Animal Farm, I appreciate George’s barbed jab at the uppercrust in their starched white shirts
7. Blackbird – simply too beautiful to leave off
Side B
1. Birthday – this barely made the cut, but just isn’t Side B without those drums
2. Dear Prudence – one of the Beatles’ best ever, imho
3. Sexy Sadie
4. I Will
5. Helter Skelter – it’s no White Album without this song. A bold middle finger to all pop music, and a long way from Love Me Do .
6. I’m So Tired
7. Good Night – always felt Ringo’s vocals were iffy, but I love it nonetheless
Some songs I really, really hated to cut:
Julia – one of my favorites, but too similar to Dear Prudence which is just simply better
Mother Nature’s Son – beautiful but Paul’s ballad had to be Blackbird
Rocky Raccoon – weird to think of White Album without it, but as I’m not a fan of country, it had to get cut along with Don’t Pass Me By (though I love both)

The more I look at these lists the more I think the album would lose so much by being compressed down to 12-14 tracks. As noted by many making the attempt it is the variety and quality that make it so special – it has a wonderful loopy weirdness that few double albums manage to match.

Ya, I did that to make my 80 minute CD, and do love the song. Just finished watching Harrison’s Living In A Material World DVD and that was the song they ended it with. Classic.

Interesting opinion on the album @Domino – would you like to give an example double EP that would suit your preferences? I’d be interested to see it.

Hi trcanberra, my E.P would be,side 1
Side 2
Those songs are the only ones that I listen to from that album. All four have a writing credit on it so they’re all happy. George Martin got it right, saying that it would make a very good single album.
