I would definitely choose the first half because it has WMGGW and I Will and those two songs are essential to my existence. Also, no Revolution 9 . I would definitely miss a lot of stuff from side 2 though, like Yer Blues and Savoy Truffle and Long, Long, Long .
Love one another.

I’ve gotta say the first half, even though I absolutely love Good Night and Mother Nature’s Son. My reasons for this is just because I like The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill , Blackbird , and I Will . (And of course a bunch of other songs on the first half that I’m too lazy to type out.)

I find it odd that so many people dislike this song. I mean, sure it’s kinda really annoying after a while, and it’s unnecessarily long, but I appreciate the “sound collage” style they were going for. Idk, just my opinion.
Reporter: Beethoven figures in one of your songs. What do you think of Beethoven?
Ringo Starr: He’s great. Especially his poetry.

This made me happy, thank you.

I don’t dislike it, it just doesn’t really qualify as a song to me, and it’s too long. Also, it took up a lot of precious space on the album. Basically what I’m saying was that Revolution 9 would be a song from the second half that I wouldn’t miss.

Haven’t got much to add to this discussion. Flyingbrians’ ranking of the four sides matches my own, as far as that goes, so both the top and bottom halves of the package balance out, enjoyability-wise. In other words, I can’t decide which half I prefer, and don’t want to. Good thing my opinion isn’t terribly valuable!
(And it’s maybe worth noting that the original editions of this album had Sides 1-4 and Sides 2-3 on separate discs, as was the practice at the time. So the question of which of the two slices of vinyl one prefers may ultimately depend on which edition one owns. Just a footnote…)
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I can’t choose. There are gems all over this album and I love it for what it is.

This is like trying to pick which lung you’d rather have. I feel as though either disc isn’t complete without the other.

Indeed. I have the songs on my iPod just in one big list, without disc one or disc two, etc. That’s the best way to look at the album, in my opinion. The White Album is the perfect Beatles album to play on speakers and just sit in the lounge room listening for an hour and a half.

I got to know this album through the car tape player, so I see it divided into four sides. My favorite is Side one of disc two.

I know it that way now due to records. However back in the day, I knew it really well as disc 1 and 2 because it was 2 different albums on my iPod. I didn’t know how to make a multi-disc album on iTunes back then.

Good memory of mine: finding a White Album in my university library one night, no one around, putting it on the record player, hearing the warmth of the sound, and just sitting there.
