If Revolution 9 was not put on The White Album . Which Song or Songs could have taken its place.
I Say That The Inner Light and Revolution (Which could be renamed Revolution 2) could have taken its place.
I Think that Rolling Stone should do a cover story of The Rolling Stones covering "Like a Rolling Stone" or if a Type of Beetle was named after The Beatles.

Definitely What’s The New Mary Jane . That’s the same schtick, but actually listenable at the beginning.

Nothing. Revolution is perfect for the musical diversity of White Album although this song gives me creeps

Maybe Not Guilty (was it already composed then?)

I struggled hard to like Rev 9 that Christmas…….I never did get to like it…….But there was so much else to become acquainted with on the double. I Still don’t like 9 but I’m glad it’s there.
The suggested replacements apart from MJ are more listenable………but pretty forgettable too. The more I think about it perhaps Mary Jane would have had a similar impact but drawn more of us in.

Then, in my opinion, it’s a silly – derailing – response, @Starr Shine?. The question being asked in the thread, as everybody else seems to have understood, is what other BEATLES recording(s) of the era would you put in its place. Suggesting a 1961 recording by another artist isn’t a worthy contribution to a discussion about a BEATLES album!

I agree with @Hey Jude !, I think it belongs where it is, but if I was going to replace it I think I’d want Not Guilty on there.
Not the Anthology version though, I have some other version that’s much better and probably what The Beatles wanted. I don’t even know where I found it and didn’t even know it was a strange version until @meanmistermustard pointed it out. What I thought I had (the Sessions mix) would have been the same as Anthology, meaning I have some strange early mix.
So that version of Not Guilty and maybe What’s The New Mary Jane too, just to have some of the avant garde stuff on the album.

Well, @Mr. Kite, the two versions I know of Not Guilty are the Anthology one and the one in George Harrison , his 1979 LP –the latter being the best, although it has a sound that’s probably different from the one The Beatles would have given it (the keyboards for instance, sound a lot like Blow Away, another one of my favorite tracks in that album) Maybe that’s the one you have.

Nope. Mine is Beatles, and it’s the same takes as the Anthology one, but mixed differently and produced better and it’s about a minute longer.
George isn’t drowning in echo and there isn’t all that forced backwards guitar towards the end.
The George solo version is nice, but that’s not it.
This sounds like the version I have:
Great song, love the singing and guitar and the bass part in the second half, when its more audible, is amazing.

Another song just came to my mind is “Carnival Of Lights”, according to BB this is a similar song. I have heard it on Y-tube but im not sure if this was the song as some people have suggested that it isn’t released yet so I would like to listen to it.
All the ones on YouTube are fakes. Apple has it tightly in their vaults… For better or for worse.

Re ‘Not Guilty ‘, it was cut up, edited and mixed by Geoff Emerick for the ‘Sessions’ LP which was planned for a 1986 release but never saw the light of day. Instead of being sensible and issuing the full take Apple simply took that and stuck it on. Quite simply that mix stinks. There are two mixes of the full 4 minute 14 second (or so) take, one fades out during the ending before returning to full volume the other runs level throughout. @Ron Nasty can correct the details if anything is wrong.
‘Carnival Of Light ‘ has only been heard by a very few number of people, all versions on youtube are fakes regardless of what they say.
And a note for everyone for all the threads. Can folk do their level best to stick to the topics and not post replies that are likely to cause unnecessary derails. There are plenty of places where daft comments can be made, so lets try and keep the more focused Beatles topics and conversations on track. The forum will only benefit from it. Thanks.

I don’t like Not Guilty that much, it’s..alright. Circles is creepy, MJ is creepy..If they would have put any of these on, that song would still be the one I’d skip. So just should’ve put The Inner Light , Lady Madonna or Hey Jude on the album, since they broke the ”no single on albums” rule a long time before that.
And while we’re at it, I would put the single version of Revolution on the album instead of Revolution 1 , because imo it’s really boring.
