Hi, everyone. It’s been a long time. I was listening to the White Album and wondering, where do you think songs like “What’s The New Mary Jane “, “Not Guilty ” and such be on the album if they made it onto the final album. I thought I read somewhere that “What’s The New Mary Jane ” made it onto a rough track listing so maybe someone knows where it actually would’ve been. I’m curious to hear all your opinions.

Interesting question, I think the obvious place for ‘What’s The New Mary Jane ?’ would be in place of ‘Revolution #9′ or before it if you were to include them both, but that’s assuming that you’re using the ‘Anthology 3 ‘ version. I’d be more inclined to use the acoustic version of ‘What’s The New Mary Jane ?’ which is much shorter and slot it after ‘Piggies ‘ on Side 2, while keeping ‘Revolution #9′ for it’s a better showcase of avant garde, than the ‘Anthology 3 ‘ version of ‘What’s The New Mary Jane ?’ in my opinion, and both of them would be overkill for 8 minutes of ‘Revolution #9′ is enough to digest. I think that ‘Not Guilty ‘ is a little bit more difficult to place for it disrupts the “pattern” of one George tune per side, but something tells me that it belongs on Side 3 somewhere, or maybe even a good opener for Side 4. There’s other songs to consider here for addition too, I’m still flipping over the lengthy ‘Revolution – Take 20′ that meanmistermustard linked up last week in that other thread and would love to see that take ‘Revolution #1’s place, or I’d even consider adding ‘It’s All Too Much ‘ in there somewhere as well for there’s a version out there with an extra verse (that’s also heard in the ‘Yellow Submarine ‘ movie) with a much longer fade-out. The trouble is that I’m quite fond of the ‘White Album ‘ as is (it’s my favourite Beatles’ album) and adding or subtracting anything alters it make-up significantly, but having said that, the album is all ready very much “cut & paste” and I see more songs adding to the “encyclopedia of music” that it is and not really interfering with the flow so much if they’re ideally placed…:-)
