Offline I can’t dislike anything from this album because of the smorgasbord it provides. Some of these songs wouldn’t fit in anywhere else in their catalogue. Can you imagine Wild Honey Pie , or Revolution 9 , for example, being on A Hard Day’s Night, or even Abbey Road ? But here, they’re part of a huge track list where the Beatles express themselves in any way they see fit. Which is brave considering the reputation they’d built up until then. Yes, my friends, the White Album is wonderful and if push came to shove, it would be my desert island Beatles album.

Offline There’s a reason I consider this their best album, the songwriting is just on another level. I remember in my early days of being a fan writing it off as not having as good melodies as Sgt Pepper or Abbey Road , but I’ve done a total U-turn on that now.
