I think Yoko’s singing is cool, too. One thing I love in music is when, in a song with a narrative, you have a different singer come in to sing dialogue from a different character. Bungalow Bill is the only example I can think of right now, though.

I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I don’t know but Good Night sounds so much more satisfying as an instrumental like this. Can’t be the only one.
This song is so soothing. It puts me to sleep not because it’s boring but it’s just relaxing.

That pain would lead to pleasure?
Did she understand it when they said
That a man must break his back
To earn his day of leisure?"

The Super Deluxe version of the song is nice, but I still prefer the album version. Good Night is the perfect end to what is a long, varied album. After all that energy it’s time for a good rest, before we put the album on again!

Songs like “While My Guitar Gently Weeps “, “Dear Prudence ” and “Long, Long, Long ” are great and all, but we all know the best song in the album (without question) is “Wild Honey Pie “.

I’m on a While My Guitar Gently Weeps kick at the moment. I used to like the acoustic versions more, probably because it felt like the guitar itself really was weeping. I still love the atmosphere they have, but the studio version is also fantastic, particularly the instrumental segment. Very close to being George’s best song.

Now that I’m thinking about it, my favourite and least favourite Beatles songs are both on the White Album . Dear Prudence and Don’t Pass Me By :p

Revolution 9 & Goodnight ~ I can do without
This is why I like the White Album so much, because it has the spirit of true artistic freedom. What is a good song? It’s always subjective. Put all the songs on there and let the audience decide for themselves. The White Album is like listening in to the complete sessions of a particular era. It’s so rock and roll that they did wild things and had the confidence to release it all. Fear of failure and being judged are things I believe we should fight, otherwise we stay stationary and don’t grow.

I know I’m in the minority here, but I really like “Revolution 9 “. One of the things I think that makes the “White Album ” great is its juxtaposition of many different styles–showing the Beatles’ versatility. Who else would put this on a record in between “Cry Baby Cry ” and “Good Night “? Who else would have an album with songs like “Blackbird ” AND “Helter Skelter “, like “Yer Blues ” and “Honey Pie “? Revolution 9 is a sound-collage which is seemingly random noise, but if you listen to it a bunch of times, you start to hear a structure as with any other song, though it’s not a “song” in the traditional sense. The White Album would not be the White Album without it, but it’s real strength is its juxtaposition to all the other styles, classic-rock, folk, country, ballad, ska, 1920s, 1960s MOR pop, etc.
That said, it’s by far not my favorite on the album.
IMO the best song on tWA is “Dear Prudence “, followed by “Blackbird ” and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps “. There are many good songs beyond that, but too difficult to rank. The one song that deserves to be labeled a “piece of junk” is “Wild Honey Pie “, which should have been left off the album. I’ve never really been able to wrap my head around “Long Long Long”, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad song…and I’ve always been confounded by “Everybody’s Got Something to Hide ‘Cept for Me and My Monkey”–I’ve always found the lyrics completely unintelligeable (however, when I heard Fats Domino’s cover of it, I reassessed the song–it’s one of the best Beatles’ covers out there).

I have no issues with ‘Revolution 9 ‘ and whilst I don’t seek it out if it came on and I was in the mood I’d listen happily, same as with a great number of songs on an album. If it wasn’t there ‘TWA’ would be vastly inferior, kind of the same as those who complain about tracks on ‘Pepper’ and how it would be better if those were removed/replaced.
Note: I am aware and also hold the opinion that ‘R9’ is not a song in itself in a traditional song sense, it is a piece of music, musical collage or something similar.
