As far as RS to Revolver , I agree and recall one author likening the transition to the moment in The Wizard Of Oz when it changes to from black and white to color. On the other hand, and I don’t recall the source, I do remember George saying that the time of recording RS and Revolver was blurred for him, as if to say there was no real division between the two in his mind.
I agree with the Wizard of Oz analogy. As I see it, you could take any of the Revolver tracks and put them on any of the later albums and they would fit fine. Whereas most of the Rubber Soul tracks would sound out of place on later albums.

I’ve always thought Help ! might have been a much more interesting album had half of it not needed to fit the constraints of being a soundtrack.

I’m sure you aren’t referring to this, but I grew up listening to the Capitol version, and with half of the album being instrumentals it wouldn’t have taken much at all to have made that more interesting! Some of Capitol’s “hatchet jobs” turned out well – Beatles’ 2nd Album, Beatles ’65 – and others, well, less so . . .

Yes! Someone who agrees with me finally! Off this album, I like nine songs. Still, that’s a pretty bad success rate of <30%! I can’t understand why it’s such a fantastic album. I’d much rather a less diverse, but butter album than a really diverse album that you only like a few tracks from.

What 9 songs do you like The Hole Got Fixed, I know 2 of them are Birthday and Piggies , I wonder what the other 7 are. It’s rather odd that you guys like less tracks on The Beatles than there are tracks on that album where Paul plays guitar, which by the way is 10-12, not sure about While My Guitar Gently Weeps and Birthday .
Since I’m here, I think I’ll say what I think is their most overrated proper album, which means Magical Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine don’t count.
In this case, I’d probably say A Hard Day’s Night The first 2 track are dull and bland, Ringo doesn’t get to say anything, there are only 13 tracks instead of 14, which they later did with Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band but by then, they weren’t a normal rock band, all 13 of them were done by Lennon/McCartney, Any Time At All is a very weak track, George only gets 1 song to sing, and the album and matching film paints them out to be sellouts.
I’ll be honest, if I were around back in the 1960’s and was old enough to actually understand what I was listening to, I probably would’ve been initially unimpressed with The Beatles and I wouldn’t get into them until around Rubber Soul or Revolver .

How do you get they are sell outs in the film? They are constantly mocking Norm, taking little he says seriously, irritate the hell out of the director, take the piss out of the old guy on the train, and George plants doubts about a trendy presenter (Susan) to a tv producer who thinks he knows everything but is more than likely out of touch. Do you want them smoking, swearing and screwing on camera as well playing the exact instruments on the screen as they played in the studio?

The reason why I think the film shows them as sellouts is because the movie is about Beatlemania and it displays that message full force, just about every girl under the age of 40 in the film is in love with them, The Beatles are like Mark Wahlberg in this film. At least with Help !, Magical Mystery Tour , Yellow Submarine , and Let It Be , they had more of a storyline.
As for seeing them smoking, swearing, and screwing, that’d be nice to see as a “Black Friday” reel, but not in the finished product. As for them using the proper instruments, it’d be cool to see but the only one that bothers me in the film is when George uses his acoustic guitar to play I’m Happy Just To Dance With You instead of an electric guitar.

It was a fictional account of 36 hours of Beatlemania all squished together and just about every girl under 40 was in love with them. I fail to see your problem to be honest.

All the movie is about is Beatlemania, that’s why I think it represents the group as sell outs, I hope that cleared things up.
So what should the movie…
In fact forget that.

Very interesting, I like long songs, but it seems like you don’t and I’m going to assume that you also dislike It’s All Too Much , I Want You (She’s So Heavy), Bohemian Rhapsody, Stairway To Heaven, 2112, One, and In A Gadda Da Vida for the same reason, never considered While My Guitar Gently Weeps to be a long song myself though and this is the first time I’ve ever heard someone refer to it as such.
For your edit, did you cut out both solos, just the first one, or just the second one, I’d guess both due to over 2 minutes being removed and did you remove anything else. Also, do you like Eric’s solos or did you just cut them out due to the fact that you thought the song was too long. I personally think the main solo is The Beatles 2nd best solo, next to Something with the album version of Let It Be at a close 3rd.

I don’t like long songs, @Dark Overlord. Let It Be is about as long as I can manage.

That is correct. Though with I Want You (She’s So Heavy), even if it was 2 minutes long I wouldn’t like it; I just don’t like the groove.

I cut out the first one, and faded it out over the second one. I’m not denying Clapton’s skills are incredible, and I’m not saying it’s a bad (though IMO it isn’t great) solo, but it goes for too long, and decided to cut it altogether.

It’s not terrible, and I like an edit I did of it that’s 2:34 (missing the guitar solo), but 4:46 is just too long for me to enjoy it.
I don’t see how length has anything to do with enjoyment. In fact, the one thing I dislike about In My Life (my favorite song of all time) is that it’s so short. You’re just getting into it when the harpiano solo comes along and before you know it, it’s over.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I get bored quickly with a song. IMO, I think a song should come in, make its point, have a chorus, blah blah blah, and if it isn’t really adding any new ideas, it should then end. That’s part of why I love And Your Bird Can Sing so much. It comes along, has some different parts, doesn’t get repetitive, then it ends without flogging the idea to death.
