Can YS really be overrated, though? Most folks rarely even rate it, or consider it a real album.
I think I have to consider A Hard Day’s Night to be my choice, since so many people hold it in high esteem (nothing but straight MacLen compositions!) I mentioned on the “rank the AHDN songs” thread how the presentation, the sequencing, of the whole leaves me underwhelmed, despite the almost uniformly high quality of the songs themselves. I guess I’m of the opinion that AR (because of the medleys) and SP (because of the “concept”, whether it really exists or not) and the White Album (because of the sheer overwhelming bulk) are all more than the sum of their parts, whereas AHDN is less. That’s why it gets my “most overrated” vote.
Sorry.

Yellow Submarine is a split album which means each artist gets his own side, side A being The Beatles and side B being The George Martin Orchestra.
As for A Hard Day’s Night , I agree it’s overrated, especially the title track, although I do like how it has all original compositions on it, though I do feel that they ripped British children off by not putting Matchbox or some other 14th track on the album.

For the most overrated, I would have to say Sgt. Pepper. Don’t get me wrong its a great album but songs like Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds & Within You Without You just kills the album for me. Although A Day In The Life is a masterpiece and songs such as Lovely Rita & Fixing A Hole are criminally underrated.

^ Lovely Rita makes me wiggle about with joy each time I hear it. I hope the song is part of the One on One tour.

I’ll probably get hate for this but I think Abbey Road is probably their most overrated album.
All of the songs are good but I think quite a lot of them lack substance (I’m pretty sure John said the same thing).
So yeah, I personally don’t get why it’s praised as one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Its very very good yes, but greatest no.
Oh, and Sgt Peppers isn’t overrated

There’s a reason why a lot of the songs on Abbey Road lack substance, watch me go through the track listing and explain why for each song:
Come Together (has substance)
Something (has substance)
Maxwell’s Silver Hammer (has substance)
Oh Darling (nothing special going for it)
Octopus’s Garden (has some substance)
I Want You (She’s So Heavy) (has substance)
Here Comes The Sun (overplayed)
Because (has substance)
You Never Give Me Your Money (has some substance)
Sun King /Mean Mr. Mustard/Polythene Pam /She Came In Through The Bathroom Window (short throwaway tracks that are part of a medley)
Golden Slumbers (nothing special going for it)
Carry That Weight (short throwaway track that’s part of a medley)
The End (can only expect so much from a song that is less than 2 minutes long and practically an instrumental)
Her Majesty (way too short to be taken seriously)

Yep I pretty much agree with your summary for each song. I think that the medley is the main culprit, but that’s not to say that I don’t love it.
I guess it’d be very hard to create a medley of short songs which is coupled with substance though so I can’t really attach any blame.

All of the songs you described as having no substance are all supposed to be taken in the context of the medley. They aren’t meant to be examined as separate songs.

That’s true, I think its possible to argue that the medley as a concept could be viewed as a bit contrived and lacking in substance though. That’s another thing about Abbey Road for me, a lot of it’s so slicky produced and tightly crafted that it just lacks the edge of other Beatles albums.

I don’t think Oh Darling has substance and that’s meant to heard on it’s own.

You’re right, I forgot you put that one as non substantial. So my point, minus Oh Darling.

The ‘Abbey Road ‘ medley was odds and ends melded together to create one, to analyse the parts misses a lot of the point. The attraction isn’t really in the songs but how they put it together so seamlessly.
Personally, I don’t think every song has to have substance or a great meaning to it.

The White Album . Sure, it has some good stuff on it, but IMO, more filler than good tracks.

I like The Beatles and think it’s The Beatles best album. Sure, it contains Good Night which I think is the worst Beatles song ever released and it also contains the rubbish instrumental Wild Honey Pie and a few other throwaways like Piggies , but it’s also got some of The Beatles best works on it such as Dear Prudence , While My Guitar Gently Weeps , Happiness Is A Warm Gun , Birthday , Yer Blues , Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey , Helter Skelter , and Savoy Truffle and I think there are more good tracks on the album than bad although if you feel that it’s overrated, go ahead.

Either SPLHCB , White Album , or Revolver are their most overrated albums. I get the love for these albums, but ever since I’ve heard about The Beatles, lots of people have been basically shoving The White Album and SPLHCB down my throat. Revolver , not as much, but still generally overrated
I still mostly stand by what I said previously back in 2015. Sgt Peppers and the White Album are the only one I stated here that I still really agree with. In my opinion, the most overrated Beatles album (besides the 2 previously stated) is Abbey Road .

IMO, the only overrated Beatles album is Rubber Soul (I do think it’s a great album, only that relative to the other Beatles’ albums it’s a bit overrated).
Most people seem to think that there was a big jump from Help to Rubber Soul , and that Rubber Soul is the equal of Revolver .
My opinion is that the big jump was from Beatles For Sale to Help . Then, Help and Rubber Soul are basically equal, and then there was another big jump from Rubber Soul to Revolver .

Interesting thought there about BFS to Help . They were getting a chance to catch their breath and it helps to remember what they were now smoking during the latter album.
As far as RS to Revolver , I agree and recall one author likening the transition to the moment in The Wizard Of Oz when it changes to from black and white to color. On the other hand, and I don’t recall the source, I do remember George saying that the time of recording RS and Revolver was blurred for him, as if to say there was no real division between the two in his mind.
