Examiner article comparing a few of the songs on the US Box.
Thanks mmm – it’s interesting to read all the various opinions. I think it is aimed squarely at the mass market for the 50th – plus it is impossible to please every ‘fan’ of the US albums – some wanted the 60s sound, some wanted more modern sound etc.

Ok-got the box!
First impressions – packaging is excellent and matches the Mono Box perfectly. Really good job.
Only listened to Meet The Beatles so far – comparing to Capitol Albums version they’ve matched it very well – seems they’ve increased the level to match that release, plus tweaked the eq and added reverb. They sound very similar, except the duophonic versions of course, but they do match up well. Compared to the Mono Box they are a lot louder – some may say better, but that’s down to the old ‘it sounds better cos it’s louder’ trick.
If I was an original [and casual] US fan, I wouldn’t think these releases would spoil my enjoyment/memories too much, it seems to me Apple have taken this into account when compiling the box.

Listening to The Beatles Story, and it really is as cheesy as I’d remembered. I still take exception to the “poor British sea-port slum town” description of Liverpool. It peed me off 30 years ago and it still is now, thanks Capitol!
So far I’m otherwise made-up with the release, although I haven’t reached Yesterday & Today yet.
A Hard Day’s Night – strange one as although I think it’s a welcome addition and a good representation of the movie [and the time], I can’t help feel [had I been around then] a bit short changed if I’d been aware of the British release.

Having had a decent enough listen (and comparison to the Capitol Albums), I think they’ve done a decent job of matching the original US albums. There will always be those who will criticise the dropping of the duophonic mixes, and it appears some of the mixes they are familiar with, although as some of these only appeared on 70’s issues that’s a moot point? As I said previously, they’ve added just the right amount of level, eq and reverb – the tracks sound fantastic!
My biggest criticism is how difficult the CDs are to put back in the sleeves!!!! I’m talking a good few minutes in some cases, very frustrating, it’s almost as if the sleeves were constructed around the disc and inner In the factory.
The Yesterday & Today replacement sheet for the butcher cover is a nice touch, drew a wry smile from me anyway.

Agree on sleeves as a general issue – some of them are so tight it is just crazy. They need to look at the Dylan mono box as a better example. The replica covers are slightly oversized compared to a CD and it all works very well.
Glad to hear you like the sound. I have only heard the iTunes samples so far but thought they sounded pretty good as well.

I’m having fun checking the tracking data every Now And Then . Currently gone from Amazon to the shipper and now in somewhere called Mississauga which is apparently “the largest suburb in Anglo-America by population”. I never knew a shipping manifest could be so educational
[EDIT] Ooh – the U. S. Albums are home in the US of A – Louisville, Kentucky to be precise. I wonder where they will head to next?

Mine’s en route to the UK from Canada. Looking forward to its arrival (I didn’t go for priority shipping so it might take a while).
Can buy me love! Please consider supporting the Beatles Bible on Amazon
Or buy my paperback/ebook! Riding So High – The Beatles and Drugs

Looks like yours are ahead of mine, but they have further to go. Mine left Windsor, ON this morning.
UPDATE: My box is in Detroit, “Rock City.”

^^ Nice one Joe – hopefully not too long!
^ and the race is on ..
Mine just left Hawaii, so it looks like it IS coming to Australia and not Austria (don’t laugh – it has happened!).
“There are no kangaroos in Austria.”
Austria literally has that sentence post all over the tourist places.
I can’t wait to see who wins this race.

Indeed – they had lots of t-shirts printed with that when we were on holiday there. The kids had a good laugh when they saw them.

The excitement mounts – they have landed in Sydney. Now the REAL waiting starts as they try to find a suitable kangaroo to carry them to Canberra.
Do they have to train the kangaroos? Is it just second-nature to them to deliver parcels? Do you have to tie them down first, was that what Rolf was singing about? Who knew such a harmless song could really be about animal cruelty? Still, that’s the least Rolf has to worry about at the moment.
