I was trying to find one particular Beatles album from the list this site has, but I couldn’t find it.
I don’t own it, and it’s been years since I saw it, but as I recall it’s the one that has the four Beatles on the cover all looking rather ragged, with very long hair, standing on the front steps of some ancient mansion.
As I recall, Lady Madonna and Paperback Writer were among the songs.
However, when I tried to find it from the list this site has, I couldn’t find it:
- 1 (One)
- 1962-1966 (Red Album)
- 1967-1970 (Blue Album)
- A Hard Day’s Night
- Abbey Road
- Anthology 1
- Anthology 2
- Anthology 3
- Beatles For Sale
- Help!
- Let It Be
- Let It Be… Naked
- Live At The BBC
- Love
- Magical Mystery Tour
- Nowhere Boy: Original Soundtrack
- Past Masters
- Past Masters Volume One
- Past Masters Volume Two
- Please Please Me
- Revolver
- Rubber Soul
- Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
- The Beatles (White Album)
- The Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl
- With The Beatles
- Yellow Submarine
- Yellow Submarine Songtrack
- Yesterday… And Today

The album you refer to is Hey Jude (aka The Beatles Again).
The album pics were shot at Johns Tittenhurst estate during the beatles last ever group photo session in August ’69.
There are quite a few compilations excluded from that list but considering that there are tons of beatle compilations (Ballads, Love Songs, Oldies but Goldies, Reel Music) that featured nothing new i presume it was a conscious decision and not an oversight, unless they are elsewhere on the site. The above list appears to include the core collection (all the albums required to own everything the beatles have put out excluding alternates mixes) and a selection of the more noteworthy.
Hey Jude is an excellent selection of tracks in a fabulous running order, one of the best beatles compilations ever put out. Would heavily recommend folks create the playlist and give it a listen.

Thanks. It seems an odd oversight, since there are a few albums on the list that are just “greatest hit” compilations anyway also.
Question: Aren’t there are least a few songs on this “Hey Jude ” album that appear nowhere else on albums prior to it? Examples:
Ballad of Yoko and Ono
?

Yes but they are since covered by Past Masters which is the easiest place to find them today and an essential cd for a fan to have the full catalogue.
Bad Boy was first on Oldies but Goldies in the UK (the first beatles compilation in the UK for those not aware) but its not listed and i doubt anyone would care its not. There is also Rarities which was the first place for a lot of folk to get a number of non-lp tracks but again there is no real requirement for those since they are now on Past Masters . Its down to how far you take the lps.
Am currently working (slowly) on a different kind of beatle website with someone not as ardent a beatle fan as i am but still a big fan. I have to explain what half of all the compilations, box sets and us albums are and why they are included plus to create different entries for all of them is very time consuming. Its long enough doing one entry for each song. And Joe’s has such a wealth of info elsewhere.
From the list above you have the red, blue and 1 albums, all massively successful and popular compilations.
Yellow Submarine Songtrack is available on cd and itunes.
Hollywood Bowl is the only live beatles album ever officially released.
Yesterday and Today is infamous due mainly to its cover (the whole ‘Butcher’ thing).
Past Masters is essential for fans.
Let It Be Naked has unique tracks so crucial for fans to have everything.
And i think Joe went to EMI for the movie or the soundtrack of Nowhere Man which is why that is there.
Joe might have other reasons but that would be my guess why not every album is included.

It’s only one more album to include! And though your first sentence is correct now and for the last decade or so, when “Hey Jude ” came out, and for a few years after, unless I am mistaken it was the only place to hear “Lady Madonna ” et al. (other than single 45s or the radio, of course).

So why not UK Rarities released in ’78 that was the only lp to have You Know My Name, Long Tally Sally, Across The Universe (Wild Life Version) and a number of other tracks.
And Oldies But Goldies that was the only album in the UK to have Bad Boy for 12 years.
Thats now 3.

The albums section has quite a few omissions. Generally I don’t do compilations but the Hey Jude one is probably significant enough. I haven’t written about the Anthologies or Love, and would like to do something on the Sessions variations too. As ever it’s a matter of finding the time.
