My order has shifted from whoknowswhen to the middle of February to the end of this week in the space of 4 days. The box weighs 24lbs! 24lbs of Beatleness!!! Am sooperdooper excited. First time in a long while that ive felt that way; must be how a 6 year old feels on the 22nd December when the snow is falling and knows that Santa is coming in a couple of days as he’s been uberduper good.

Arrived today and its certainly a heavy thing. Absolutely gorgeous tho, a thing of beauty.
The exclusive book is stunning, obviously put together with care and attention and worth a small fortune in itself, not that ive had much chance to look thru it in great detail tho. Thankfully it was a gift but worth every penny (tho it was on offer). Just got to figure out where to put it.
A silly question but how do you open the lp’s without removing the shrikwrap, would love to look thru it all but at the same time want to store them as safe as possible.

You can make a slit at the opening with a letter opener or another thin “edge” so you can access the goodies inside and leave the shrinkwrap on. Of course, you won’t be able to get to the gatefolds like on Sgt. Pepper or Beatles For Sale , for example.

I thought of that but Pepper is one i’d love to open up and Beatles For Sale has that wonderful picture of the 4 in front of that murial collage thing. Maybe its just not possible.

Remove all of the shrinkwrap. The records are meant to be enjoyed. Who cares if you get a few scuffs on the jackets? Unless you’re planning on flipping the thing on eBay for a slight profit, open everything, play it, savour it, let your kids get into it and show it some love.
It’s not made of sugar, people. If you want to archive records, buy the originals. These ones need to be played and loved like you’re a lovestruck pimply teenager in 1966.

I totally agree. I was only making a suggestion Personally, I’d open them up and play them and enjoy them. Why buy ’em if you’e not going to use ’em?

I will admit that my record players needle has been bust for i dont know how long but Im more a collector with things like these and it is a glorious item to own. I do love vinyl just havent played it for years, still have my large Beatle and solo collection.
I also didnt pay for it, it was a christmas present and not one i expected or asked for due to the price (and even then it was bought at a discount price of nearly £90 off).
However i agree about opening them up and getting fingerprints all over them and if i can find somewhere that will replace the needle then they will get played. It would be a wonderful experience to revisit.

Ive opened them up, keeping the shrikwrap on wherever possible, they’ll stay in the box forever anyway, only coming out for playing, im going to get a new record needle, and gazing at. The idea of settling back with Pepper on the record player during the summer is too enticing.
I have discovered one thru going the book. When ripping the cd’s to itunes in 2009 so they would go on an ipod i noticed that the mono tracks had longer silences at the end then the stereo and never knew why, it bugged me for a while. In the book it explains that the original LPs in the 60’s had a gap of 6 seconds between tracks (at least up to Pepper when the Beatles started omitting them) but later on it was reduced to 3 seconds. The remastered stereo cd’s retain the shorter gap whilst the mono remasters and the stereo vinyl have the original full 6 seconds.
Should also note that when discussing detailing the pressing procedure in the book it talks about how they worked out how to get the Pepper groove to work as “originally intended on both the mono and stereo versions of the remastered Pepper LP”. One more sign that the mono LPs are are on their way.

mmm, I’d recommend looking for your new needle online. I know it worked for me. Ordering it from HMV they quoted £47.95. Finding it online, I paid £22.95. (I have a B&O deck so always expected to pay for replacement needle.)

I dont even know where to start, presumably its not a simple matter of ordering any needle for a one size fits all. There is a shop in Glasgow that used to sell record players but havent been in in years, will go next time im in Glasgow and ask for some pointers. Anyone got any suggestions?

You should be able the name of the record player onto the internet, and looking for a needle, and that will pull up those selling needles that fit. My B&O is a 1992 model. I just put in the model number. It told me sites where I could a needle for it.

Glad you got anything from that post. Reading it now I somehow got it pretty wrong. It should have read:

Oops! Just ignore the 2nd post. Read the first. They both kinda say the same.
