I remember reading on the forum that they were covering some songs, but just read that it’s going to be a whole album called With A Little Help From My Fwends… Why?!?!?I cannot listen to their cover of Kite… It will kill my soul…
My soul is already dead after listening to the… thing this thread is about.

Eh…
Someone, somewhere, thought about this and said “Yes, that’s a good idea, we will get Miley Cyrus to sing Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds “. That’s what creeps me out more than this abomination itself.

Beatles songs are like Teflon. Even the worst of covers don’t seem to stick to them.

I’ll give credit for being different in approach. Whether or not we like it or not at least its not a ghastly photocopy of the original. I’d far rather listen to that than some gormless hack on ‘I’ve Got No Talent, I’ll Make Simon Cowell Even Richer” shriek for 5 minutes whilst beating the original tune and notes into a bloodly mess.
Its different, its going to be controversial as more folk hear it and its going to be slated by so many. All of which makes me think of John and Yoko in their early times together having to defend their ‘music’. Personally i think John would have approved, especially as he wasn’t a fan of the Beatles recording.
In all honesty i don’t mind it. If the choice is this or P.S. Love Me Do then i’m off hunting for Miley’s brain.

That is the first time I’ve ever seen/heard Myley Cyrus. The histrionics at the beginning of the video were a bit over the top. So when she started singing, I minimized my screen, closed my eyes and just listened. Her voice is nothing to write home about, but it wasn’t the worst singing I’ve ever heard. . I thought she did a nice job on the verses.
The choruses (chori?) were interesting – I could have done without the “gone, gone, gone…”, but it’s better than anything I produced today. I wasn’t blown away, but I wasn’t thoroughly disgusted by what I heard either. The project, however, will have to be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than this before I endorse it.
I hope and pray that it does not make me yearn for the Sgt.Pepper disaster of 1978.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

A lot of why I really disliked this was the strangeness of the video… So you saved yourself there!

To be honest, I have no problem with this. Younger generation of kids will learn about the Beatles!
My problem with this is it is sending the wrong message. This says ‘Look, kids, Beatle songs are all about drugs and getting f***ed out of your head’. This isn’t the case. It’d be like covering Why Don’t We Do it in the Road, then have the music video be two people doing it in the road. They aren’t learning the stories behind the songs. Now, to be fair, I’m not one who believes that Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds is about LSD, but that’s just because I know if John Lennon wanted to say something about LSD, he’d just say something about it, not hide it in a song like some twit. Message aside, it’s just a horrible cover. There aren’t any redeeming qualities to this version.

I…I don’t know.
And @paulramon1962, I saw a comment where some person (probably a kid) said something about the song being about sex and drugs and that they didn’t like it. So you were spot on with that.

It’s not the way her cover sounds that I care about, her singing was alright but it’s just the way it has been made to fit in with the times when it shouldn’t. Not to mention the fact that little kids will think she made the original and just deny the genious of the Beatles creating that at a time when there was no other music like it.

Just so we don’t get hung up on Lucy with Miley, here is a selection of The Flaming Lips Beatles covers – live, rehearsal, studio – from (mainly) the last couple of years.
A Day In The Life (2) (with Reggie Watts)
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (No Miley on this version!)
All You Need Is Love (with Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros)

And on a completely unrelated tangent, can that much nudity be on YouTube?Sean Lennon and his band got away with that much nudity for their recent video and it’s on YouTube…
I’m sorry, But I can’t handle Sean Lennon’s baby nasal voice. I tried honestly, but instead of hearing John’s voice, it makes me think YOKO!!!
