Almost forgot the whole original point of this thread…
I will be listening to the album. I may not have my record player with me, but I will for sure be listening the to the CD that day at some point. Maybe reading some Beatles lyric book or two about the songs again.

Oh yeah! I kinda forgot too, so thanks for reminding me.
I’m definitely gonna listen to the album at least once, and then annoy my friends and family about it all day. I suppose I might as well try to learn a couple of Pepper’s songs on the guitar too.

Whilst 1st June is the official release date it was released early, in some stores. I can’t remember the date definitely but it could be the 26th May and Apple are following that.

I preordered the super dooper box set! I got a discount through Amazon EU, probably because Amazon is coming to Australia or something.

It’s now almost 50 dollars cheaper to buy it from Amazon UK than it is on Amazon USA.
Hopefully the US price drops. But it may not. I’ve noticed a trend of Amazon keeping prices high.
I just don’t want to order it from the UK because I’ve had problems with them doing things like shipping my order to Germany.

Oddly my only issues with Amazon UK has been shipping charges, and the price differential between UK and US books (because of that cartel agreement no one talks about). But clearly the super dooper edition is far more popular than they expected, to which I say duhhhhh about time. Roll on Revolver and White Album versions!

Will there be a review of this box set on the site Joe like how you did the Lego Yellow Submarine ?
Perhaps. I’ve ordered it from amazon.it so my copy won’t arrive here in the UK ahead of release date, and there’ll be a lot of reviews elsewhere of this thing. But I’ll probably add at least a page to the current Sgt Pepper feature outlining the reissues, with extra images etc.

Given the more detailed tracklistings on the official site, it appears four edits may be unique to the 2xVinyl/CD release.1) Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds on the 2x is listed as [take 1] while on the Deluxe it is [take 1 & speech at the end]
2) Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite on the 2x is listed as [take 4] while on the Deluxe it is [speech from before take 1, take 4 & speech at the end].
3) Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) on the 2x is listed as [take 8] while on the Deluxe it is [speech & take 8].
4) A Day In The Life has the listing [take 1 with hummed last chord] on the 2x while these are separate items on the Deluxe.
Firstly, should anything be made of these description differences? I think so, as either side of Lucy, for example, we have With a Little Help and Getting Better – both of which have these descriptions respectively on both sets: [take 1 – false start & take 2 – instrumental] and [take 1 – instrumental & speech at the end].
So, since many tracks have identical descriptions on both formats, why don’t these?
The most interesting one is, IMO, A Day In The Life . Is the “hummed last chord” presented as a separate item after a few seconds silence, or has it been edited onto the end of take 1?
It does look as if both the Deluxe and 2-disc may be needed to get the full set of the variations this release adds.
Track listing is up on Amazon now, and it looks now like the only differences are:
The 2-CD contains Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite Take 4 without the speech, it contains Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds take 1 without the speech, and it adds the hum at the end of A Day In The Life take 1 (unless the hum is on both and it just doesn’t specify).

And so the previews start to emerge. Rolling Stone exclusive report about their listening session with Giles Martin at Studio Two, along with comments on ten of the outtakes. Probably the first of many “exclusive” reports over the next month or so that will whet our appetites.
My appetite is whetted. I am so excited to hear some of these alternates.
I do hope at least one or two of the alternates will emerge in advance, in much the way Bob trailed his 1965/1966 collection.

These could start coming thick and fast, as apparently there was a listening session held for 100+ at Abbey Road last night (presumably after the afternoon session for Rolling Stone).
Here the music journalist Pete Paphides reflects on his relationship since he bought his first copy in 1983 – the stereo picture disc for £2.99 – through to listening to the 5.1 remix in Studio Two last night.
Interestingly, as with the Rolling Stone preview, mention is made of Ringo’s drumming:
…his peerlessly supple drumming frequently steals the show: his hi-hat on ‘Getting Better ‘, his sublime rhythmic tremors, somehow both intuitive and counterintuitive at the same time.
It does seem as if we may get a whole new appreciation for Ringo’s ability as a drummer through this release.
While not as detailed as the Rolling Stone preview, this is a much better piece of writing about the album, and a fan’s relationship with it:
I can’t imagine what they’ll come up with for the 60th anniversary, but I’m already interested. As long as I’m alive, I can’t see that changing.
