Because I want the one with the most stuff in it!!!!!

Finally Sgt Pepper gets a box close to what they did for Pet Sounds 20 years ago (and Smile 6 years ago). I’m thrilled to have the whole album remixed as I was a fan of the Sgt Pepper songs remixed in the 90’s for the Anthology DVD and Yellow Submarine Songtrack . These could be even better with the new technology they started using on the Hollywood Bowl CD last year. On top of that, two discs of sessions which will be interesting to hear of course. I hope some of the sessions will blow me away because I tend to feel they used the best material they could find for the Anthology. But seeing things like Fixing A Hole (take 1) or even When I’m 64 (take 2) could be interesting early versions. I know Paul preferred to do his bass last in 1967 (the band did a backing track without bass such as on With A Little Help ) so the early takes could be bass free. Either way it’s more unreleased Beatles which everybody is happy to hear. Unlike some bands, there isn’t a whole lot in the way of complete unreleased songs (they recorded and released almost everything as they went along). Having the mono album is a bonus for those who don’t have it already, but admittedly I’m hoping this remix is the definitive version over all of them. The DVD and Blu-ray are ok for those who want Hi-res audio and the documentary will be nice to see at least a couple of times).
With the band finally remixing Sgt Pepper and the recent 1+ CD, it’s only a matter of time before the all of the albums are remixed in a similar manner. But will we get Super Deluxe Box Sets for each one? That would be very cool. On the other hand, I am sure in 2009 Apple knew this would happen. Get our money with the remasters, and then get it all again with a remixing campaign complete with deluxe box sets. It’s annoying, but I can’t blame them as a business decision. Just hope they get on with it and do the rest of the albums.

Couldn’t agree more. If they end up doing a White Album Deluxe set next year, I WILL buy it. Can’t say I would buy the deluxe sets of every album though. That would be a huge hole in my wallet.

What is the “collectors edition”?
Three versions:
Standard album 2017 new stereo mix [1 disc]
Standard album 2017 new stereo mix + 1 sessions disc [2 disc]
Full Deluxe [4CDs, 1DVD, 1Blu-Ray]
I have heard nothing about a “collectors edition”.

Sorry there but considering there’s no 5oth anniversary box set for Please Please Me , With The Beatles , A Hard Day’s Night , Beatles For Sale , Help !, Rubber Soul , Revolver , or A Collection Of Beatles Oldies, I doubt that The Beatles will get a box set, although I would love to see it, maybe they’d finally put Hey Jude and Revolution on The Beatles and add the Yellow Submarine EP as a bonus disc.

Well, I asked because of this:

This from beatles.com:
– Deluxe Anniversary Edition: Expanded 2CD, digital, and 180-gram 2LP vinyl packages, adding Martin’s stereo mixes for “Strawberry Fields Forever ” and “Penny Lane ,” plus previously unreleased alternate takes for each of the album’s 13 tracks, sequenced in the same order as the album.
– Special Collector’s Anniversary Edition: The six-disc boxed set features the album’s new stereo mix on its first CD; two CDs with 33 additional recordings from the studio sessions, most previously unreleased and mixed for the first time from the four-track masters, sequenced in chronological order of their recording dates; a fourth CD with the remastered original mono mixes of the album and the “Strawberry Fields Forever ” and “Penny Lane ” singles, Capitol Records’ U.S. promotional single for “Penny Lane ,” and previously unreleased alternate mono mixes of “She’s Leaving Home,” “A Day In The Life ,” and “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds ” (a mix thought to have been wiped from the master reel, but discovered during tape research for the new edition); and DVD and Blu-ray discs with Martin’s new 5.1 surround audio mixes of the album and “Penny Lane ,” plus “Strawberry Fields Forever ” (first released in The Beatles’ ‘1+’ audio and video collection), Martin’s new high resolution (96 kHz/24-bit) stereo mixes of the album, “Strawberry Fields Forever ,” and “Penny Lane ,” and video features including the 4K restored original promotional films for “Strawberry Fields Forever ,” “Penny Lane ,” and “A Day In The Life ,” as well as ‘The Making of Sgt. Pepper ,’ a newly restored 1992 documentary film featuring insightful interviews with McCartney, Harrison, and Starr, and in-studio footage introduced by George Martin.

Just got to see the trailer for all of this. And pardon my previous comment here re: Strawberry Fields / Penny Lane , didn’t see the older topic on whether they belonged on Sgt Pepper … could have posted that thought on that topic instead. But here’s Apple’s trailer for the deluxe reissue:
EDIT! I see this trailer got posted by someone already, in the “Is Sgt. Pepper Overrated?” topic. Ah well. Since this is the 50th Ann. topic thread, and the deluxe ed. was mentioned, in here it is. Haha!
EDIT THE SECOND! Another thought as I watched the trailer / saw what was in the deluxe edition reissue. I prefer the mono mix of Sgt. Pepper much more over the stereo, so I’m glad it’s included in there.

Given the more detailed tracklistings on the official site, it appears four edits may be unique to the 2xVinyl/CD release.1) Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds on the 2x is listed as [take 1] while on the Deluxe it is [take 1 & speech at the end]
2) Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite on the 2x is listed as [take 4] while on the Deluxe it is [speech from before take 1, take 4 & speech at the end].
3) Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) on the 2x is listed as [take 8] while on the Deluxe it is [speech & take 8].
4) A Day In The Life has the listing [take 1 with hummed last chord] on the 2x while these are separate items on the Deluxe.
Firstly, should anything be made of these description differences? I think so, as either side of Lucy, for example, we have With a Little Help and Getting Better – both of which have these descriptions respectively on both sets: [take 1 – false start & take 2 – instrumental] and [take 1 – instrumental & speech at the end].
So, since many tracks have identical descriptions on both formats, why don’t these?
The most interesting one is, IMO, A Day In The Life . Is the “hummed last chord” presented as a separate item after a few seconds silence, or has it been edited onto the end of take 1?
It does look as if both the Deluxe and 2-disc may be needed to get the full set of the variations this release adds.
It’s probably the same as the single highlights disc that came with John’s ‘Anthology’ in 1998 which had some of the songs without the studio dialogue which was on the 4cd set; you did need a promo CD for the complete ‘I’m Losing You ‘ however. I’d imagine the Hummed Chord is tagged on at the end, probably after take 1 of ‘ADITL’ ends. Lokks like Apple have thankfully ditched the composites that really annoyed me on the ‘Anthology discs’; take 7 of ‘Mr Kite’ will hopefully end as it’s meant to and not have the fairground effects grafted on, same with ‘Strawberry Fields Forever ‘ (tho the complete take 7 has been booted).

I notice a lot of people mentioning how they are waiting until June 1 to listen to the album. Are people just wanting to honor the original release date, or are they unaware this is actually coming out on May 26?
May 26 is the 48th anniversary of the Montreal bed-in for peace.

I can’t wait for this set! I am excited to hear the new stuff (if I have not come across it in the “underground” over the last few years). I am glad they have the multi-disc layout here and adding PL/SFF for representation of the tracks and not harming the original released album order or anything. Lots of fun new tracks for and mixes to indulge in this summer!
