To an extent, yes. The new stereo mix of “Help !” has the vocal track from the original stereo mix, not the mono mix, and “Paperback Writer ” is missing a flanger effect from the original mono mix towards the end of the song. While they did replicate the overall feel of the mono mixes, the details were often more consistent with the stereo mixes than the mono mixes.

Offline Prediction update (now that I’ve seen the video):
“Strawberry Fields Forever ” and “Penny Lane ” will be the first two tracks on Disc 2 and will be the same mixes from 1+. Although “Only A Northern Song ” was not advertised, I still hope that a new stereo mix of that song will be included as the 3rd track on that disc.
The six extra tracks on Disc 4 will be:
- Strawberry Fields Forever (mono mix)
- Penny Lane (mono mix)
- Only A Northern Song (mono mix)
- Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (lost version, whatever that is)
- Strawberry Fields Forever (1967 stereo mix; the mix used for the 2009 remaster was the 1971 mix)
- Who knows, maybe another rare mono or stereo mix?
The 5.1 and hi-res mixes will include “Strawberry Fields Forever “, “Penny Lane ” and “Only A Northern Song “
Also, I sincerely hope this is not the only album that gets this treatment. We deserve to have remixes and deluxe editions of ALL studio albums.

Offline Sorry, @PokerMan, but I cannot see any stereo track appearing on disc 4.
Two versions of PL (the original promo and the commercial version), Strawberry Fields Forever , Only A Northern Song , the “lost” Lucy (probably RM20 as MMM has suggested) + 1 other. I cannot see the one other being the only stereo track on a mono disc.

I don’t think so. I’m sure Apple is aware of how much people want the song, and to release it along with other outtakes in this anniversary release would seriously cut profits they could make by releasing it separately.
If it was a bonus track, Apple would be throwing away a great marketing tool.
Besides the fact Olivia would want to honour George’s wishes, therefore refusing its release.

Offline I think the only way to release Carnival Of Light would be as part of a set such as this IMO, @Evangeline.
It has never sounded to me like a track that could stand without context, and Pepper is that context.
I am also doubtful though, but as I have pointed out already, the only contemporary mix of CoL was a mono mix done on the day of recording. It, therefore, has to be a possibility.

Offline I am even more excited for this release now.
I agree with @Ron Nasty and that this is the best way to release Carnival Of Light as I don’t think it has enough interest for the casual fan to have it’s own release or market a new release with this one song so it works best as a bonus track for this release.
And in the end the lunch you take is equal to the lunch you bake.

Just discovered the video (from some random Instagram post of all things)
Definitely gonna go for the 6-disc version here. This looks to be just what the doctor ordered.
I’m really hoping that the acoustic version of SFF they used on LOVE shows up here somewhere, since I really like that version. Speaking of which, I’m hoping that SFF and PL DO NOT get shoved into the main album. Pepper is perfect. No track-shuffling is needed or wanted.
I’m also really excited to hear the new mono and stereo mixes, but I’ve gotten quite used to the old CD Stereo Mixes, so I don’t know if this will be replacing those in my mind.
As for my predictions… I don’t really have any. I’m not an expert on mono vs. stereo and the differences between takes and whatnot. I’ll probably like it either way though.
Grooving some cookie spaghetti since 1968.

Folk have been trying to decipher what’s included on the Steve Hoffman thread; one post has the original US mono promo of ‘Penny Lane ‘ on the mono CD, another that disc 2 (outtakes #1) is 1 of each track, in the correct running order, along with a further ‘ADITL’, three ‘SFF’ and one ‘PL’.
A big hope with any ‘SFF’ is that we finally hear something from takes 9 -> 24 (tho the end of 24 is on ‘Anthology 2 ‘), however, no vocals were recorded so maybe not. I’d imagine take 26 is on here somewhere as we already got the complete take 7 (with 24 spliced on) on ‘A2’.
I cannot remember if any other notably different versions were recorded. I’d like to hear the unedited ‘WYWO’, we already have the uncut ‘SLH’.
There’s about a minute missing from WYWY, so that would be good to hear. I’d also like to hear the two original versions of SFF (takes 7 and 26) which were spliced together, in their original keys and tempos. That said, I’d rather they didn’t dwell too much on SFF/PL with this release because it should really be more about Sgt Pepper .
I wonder if they’ll release the “Ommmmmm” ending that they recorded for ADITL, which was later replaced with the crashing piano chord.
I suspect the LITSWD will be something from the rehearsal tape, from the day before the song was actually recorded.
There’s so much from those sessions I’d love to hear. Even a fuller version of the run-out groove would be lovely to hear. I bet there’s some funny outtakes of them making that. And if they don’t include Carnival Of Light , the first thing I’m going to do when my copy arrives is rewind the CDs to look for hidden tracks.

Offline Just a heads-up – Amazon Italy is selling the super deluxe box set for 99 Euros (that’s around $105/£85). It might be a good time to lock in the price, although I hope the US/UK prices will come down (they seem pretty high for six discs and a book)
There shouldn’t be any import duty to pay if you’re in the EU (not sure about other countries), and you can normally sign in using your credentials from another Amazon store.

Offline So it appears that both Penny Lane and A Day In The Life have been remixed again despite already being remixed for 1+. As I’ve said before, the mix of A Day In The Life on 1+ was actually the LOVE version but it appears that Giles Martin has rectified this. I don’t know why he felt Penny Lane needed remixing again so it will be interesting to see what he has done with that.

Offline Yep, they’ve renamed it Solitario Banda Hearts Club di Pepe Sergente, with session singers overdubbing all the vocals in Italian.
That’s a good point actually. The image on the .it site has the book in English, and I’m not aware of any foreign-language variants for other recent Beatles reissues. All the 2009 remasters were, AFAIK, the same worldwide (someone please correct me if that’s not true).
