Very nice @jim ! I liked the “looking through the fence”, there’s an obscure album reference there!
I'm like Necko only I'm a bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin and also everyone. Or is everyone me? Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

I didn’t like many of the 2017 remixes upon first listen and having relistened listened to them thru speakers and headphones, I’m still not impressed. The two ‘Sgt Pepper ‘ tracks (opening and reprise) are decent but the rest are meh bordering on dross. ‘The worst are ADITL’, which has lost all which made it so unique in the mix resulting in a pointless listen, and ‘Within You, Without You’, which for some reason now has one Indian instrument drowning out all the others altering the entire song for the worse.

Totally agree with “A Day In The Life “. It sounds cleaner, but kinda lifeless…not very well glued together. The orchestra’s crescendo sounds so clear and polished that it really loses effectiveness at the end… and the transition between the “Ahhhs…” and the last verse is a bit bleh…even Ringo’s drums sound a bit limp…
Anyway i like how the vocals and background vocals sound clearer and punchier.

I listen to music via the app Apple Music ( I meant by the Apple company, odd coincidence, isn’t it?) and I recently saw that there is an album called Sgt. Pepper ’s Lonely Hearts Club Band Remastered Edition. So I clicked on it, and it seems to be the same album but with songs like Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever added to the end of it. All of the songs are supposedly remastered to sound better quality, but I can’t tell the difference. Any thoughts?
Reporter: Beethoven figures in one of your songs. What do you think of Beethoven?
Ringo Starr: He’s great. Especially his poetry.

A ton of people discuss their thoughts on the new remaster. One notable thing is the isolation of each channel, so instead of hearing the album with four channels featuring multiple layers of reduction mixes, Giles Martin (son of George) was able to mix each channel independently to create a “fuller sound”
The release also comes with some great sessions and outtakes unheard before 2017.

I prefer the slower 2009 version of She’s Leaving Home. I think it’s sounds better for a ballad, more mournful and expressive. What about everyone else?

I have always preferred the mono mix of Pepper, and so too the sped-up She’s Leaving Home . I understand Paul’s thinking in wanting to make it slightly jauntier, more younger sounding. It suits the younger aspect of the song.
Many think this song is about the parents and their reaction to their runaway daughter, they act as the Greek chorus, but it is really about the daughter and her need to escape them, and her hope for a better life.
The slightly speedier mono (and now Giles’ stereo 50th), lifting it a semitone, is the expression of that hope and optimism.
When I did CSE (Certificate of Secondary Education) English Literature back in the early ’80s, She’s Leaving Home by John Lennon and Paul McCartney was one of the set poetry texts. I wrote essays on the lyrical content and its performance.
For me, the slower stereo version takes the voice from the daughter and gives it to parents, who wouldn’t have lost her had they been better parents.

Personally I prefer the slower version, as it sounds sadder (to me at least) and that’s what the album needed, to juxtapose the happier tunes of, say, WALHFMF and Getting Better .
No questioning that both versions are really good though. Fantastic lyrics and a wonderful instrumental

I’m curious if this is the case on your copies of the release, but just the other day I finally got around to ripping the tracks off the DVD to put on my phone. When I got to listening to them I found that the first 2 seconds of Getting Better were at the end of the LITSWD track. I thought it was a mistake brought on by the ripping program, but upon looking at the DVD itself, that is how the actual DVD chapters are split. If you start the Getting Better chapter it begins 2 seconds into the song. If you watch the visual portion, the text on the screen changes at the proper time, but the chapter change is 2 seconds late. Is this the case with anyone else’e copies?

It’s the same situation on the CD. It’s supposed to discourage illegal sharing.
Do you mean the Blu-Ray?
I kinda understand that reasoning, but I also just want to enjoy my 5.1 remixes that I legally acquired.

One way around it, @William Shears Campbell, is to rip the audio to an editing program such as Audacity and then resplit it by inserting your own chapter marks.

Ah yes I know how to fix it, i just find it annoying that I have to make the effort with an item I bought. Is this the case with the blu rays on the White Album and Abbey Road boxes as well?

I don’t see the remixes as canon but rather different perspectives. The best thing about these releases for me is the studio banter and outtakes. That stuff is precious, and I just love hearing it. It gives me more John content.

Have you heard the bootleg recording where John reads the children’s story “Lucy from Littletown”?

I agree, but the 5.1 mixes were a fun listening experience. Definitely worth checking out, but the most interesting stuff is of course the stuff on discs 2 and 3
