I can’t believe i haven’t done this yet:

This is definitely the worst song on this album and is up there with Good Night , Wild Honey Pie , and Her Majesty when it comes to The Beatles worst songs.

George has written some great songs, While My Guitar Gently Weeps is a great example of this, but as with Love You To , i don’t like it when he goes full sitar, George should stick to guitar.
11. With A Little Help From My Friends

Pop Rock
Typically Ringo songs are sub par, this is no exception although Paul did some great bass work here on his Rickenbacker which is definitely the best part about the song.

Music Hall
Not a bad song but definitely not my cup of tea.
9. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
Genre:
Psychedelic Rock
I like this one, whether it be Paul’s organ, John’s vocals, George’s Fender, or Paul’s excellent Lowery organ part, did i mention that great organ part by Paul and the lyrics are beautiful.
8. Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite
Genre:
Psychedelic Carnival Music
If you want a song to play at your amusement park, then if it weren’t copyrighted i’d recommend playing this one.

This rocker is sure to make your day, it’s getting better all the time when this song is on.
6. Lovely Rita

The only love song on the album and an interesting one too about Paul falling in love with a traffic warden after she gives him a ticket and you got to love those kazoo sounds that was made with a comb and toilet paper from the EMI restroom, i’m falling in love with this song just thinking about it.
5. Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)
Genre:
Rock
The most rock song on this album, this song really gives a punch in a way that no other can. Unlike most other songs that contain various overdubs to obtain it’s great sound, this song only contains John and George on guitar, Paul on bass, Ringo on drums, and all 4 Beatles singing, which i like.
4. Good Morning, Good Morning
Genre:
Psychedelic Rock
An underrated song this is but a classic nonetheless, mixing Fender guitars, bass, drums, tambourine, and a brass section in just the right way that it’ll make you smile.
3. Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band
Genre:
Psychedelic Rock
I say we ask the question what’s the most important thing about an album, that it has a great powerful high energy opener of course and this does just that with it’s rocking attitude, this song is the start to a masterpiece and even has a French horn break before switching from the verse to the chorus.

Nothing quite like a laid back song with a harpsichord and overdriven electric guitars, especially when we’re talking The Beatles, this song is among the best when it comes to The Beatles and few can top it.

Offline Have to agree with Nick. That song has a nice intro and piano solo but overall comes across as annoying and cloying. One of the reasons Sgt Pepper ‘s isn’t nearly as good as it could be.
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Completely agree with Ahhh Girl, it would probably be my favourite song on the album, if not very close to favourite. The jangly guitar is just awesome, and the harmonies at the start!

Fun fact: Anyone under the age of 30-40 should be able to hear the tone, actually.

Offline I’ll give this a go.
She’s Leaving Home – one of the few Beatles songs I straight up don’t like.
When I’m Sixty Four – Incredible arrangement and melody, adds a lot of flavor to the album.
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds – Awesome psychedelic scenery and feel. John did better with this type of lyricism on later tracks, but he knocked it out with this one.
With A Little Help From My Friends – A classic, without question.
Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band – Really great opener. Extremely tight and clean. Love everything about it, the horns, the guitars, the vocals…
Reprise – Same sentents as the first. I like the reprise more.
Fixing A Hole – awesome tune, badass guitar solo. Love the chords on this one
Getting Better – Unbelievably catchy, and fantastic incorporation of Indian instruments.
Within You Without You – George’s sole contribution. Really killer sound, and actually DEEP lyrics.
Lovely Rita – Another extremely catchy tune, with a nice jingly intro and psychedelic fadeout.
Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite – mad john.
Good Morning Good Morning – john is seriously mad. The time changes?!?
A Day In The Life – Never heard a bad word uttered about this song. Has to be #1

Offline This is tough – after all, what versions do we consider? Mono? 87 Stereo? 09 Stereo? 17 Stereo? As a general rule, I’ve always felt many songs on Sgt. Pepper are lacking, but it’s always interesting to see some songs I don’t necessarily love as someone else’s favorite! Anyway, here are mine, from worst to best.
13. Getting Better – the singular note played over and over throughout the song put this at the bottom of my list
12. She’s Leaving Home – always felt this song is just too lame to be a “Beatles” song, but the faster mono version is slightly more listenable
11. Fixing A Hole – filler, but not a terrible song by any means
10. Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) – always felt Sgt. Pepper and the reprise are just the exposition and conclusion to the meat of the album
9. Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band – perhaps the only “rock” song on this famous “rock” album. Good track but never found it to be special
8. Within You Without You – one of George’s great songs, but not my personal favorite. The instrumental version is a bit more listenable to me
7. Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite – this song has dropped a little for me, but I’ll always love the sounds and music in the break
6. When I’m Sixty-Four – “granny s**t” to some, but I love it and it makes me smile
5. Lovely Rita – solid song with great lyrics. Surprised that it’s so low on some rankings!
4. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds – I’ve found that I really love the echo-y mono version best
3. With A Little Help From My Friends – one of their great songs that drew me to the Beatles in the first place
2. Good Morning Good Morning – I love the snarkiness in John’s voice. This track has everything that made the Beatles great. Love to turn it up for GMGM!

Offline Listened to this album twice in the past two days. “Best album ever” – not really, but it’s still an amazing achievement. Here’s my ranking at the moment…
12. When I’m Sixty Four – Not my favorite. The arrangement is very good, but the song itself is the epitome of Paul’s “granny crap.” I love most of Paul’s songs, but this one doesn’t do it for me.
11. Fixing A Hole – Relatively boring, but the chorus is wonderful. The lush sounds and vocals really help this one out.
10. Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) – I don’t like this nearly as much as the one at the start of the album, but this one definitely has its purpose in setting up the closer to the album. It’s brilliantly placed to create more emotion going into the final track.
9. She’s Leaving Home – I do love this song, but it’s hard to deny that it feels more like it belongs more in a tragic play than a rock album. Wonderfully composed, too.
8. Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! – I absolutely love this song, yet when you have such a good album it’s hard to rank them. It is my favorite carnival song, and Lennon and Martin did a fantastic job in capturing the circus atmosphere.
7. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds – Trippy and weird. I love it.
6. A Day In The Life – Yes, I do feel guilty about putting it this low, but this is one song that I’m not the BIGGEST fan of. I do love it and can recognize what an achievement it is, but it’s something I rarely listen to. Maybe that’s because I’m worried that the ending will lose its affect if I get tired of the song…
5. Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band / With A Little Help From My Friends – Ringo’s greatest vocal performance and one of Paul’s greatest rock songs that serves as a magnificent opener to this album. You can’t go wrong there. The two are inseparable, so yes, I might have cheated a bit. Surprisingly, I love this first Sgt. Pepper song much more than the reprise. I suppose I enjoy the emotional effect that it has as an opener.
4. Getting Better – Yes, it is musically simple, but there’s something about it that I just love. Somehow, it appeals to me as being the most fun song on the album. Paul can make the worst ideas into brilliant songs.
3. Lovely Rita – Best meter maid song ever written. Vocals are 11/10.
2. Good Morning Good Morning – This has SEVERELY gone up on my estimation. I used to not care much for it, but after a few re-listens I can tell you that I absolutely love this song. John’s voice is amazingly produced, the guitar work is amazing, and Ringo’s cymbol crashes are to die for.
1. Within You Without You – This just recently became my favorite. Listening to it is such a journey and is one of George’s best achievements. I love the heavy Indian influence, and I wish we got more of it out of George during this time.

Offline @Killerviolin, cheers to your vote of GMGM in 2nd place. Isn’t it such a great song?? I know I’m late to the party, but I’ve seriously got Sgt. Pepper on my mind right now. I (finally) just ordered by Sgt. Pepper 50th Anniversary box set last night so I may revise my listing from earlier today a little bit, after I give it a few listens! I’m eager to hear how Lucy sounds in the 2017 stereo mix – does it have that psychedelic touch that was always missing from every stereo version? What tempo does She’s Leaving Home have? So many questions!! I just had to have it before the White Album 50th Anniv. drops, which I will be pre-ordering on day one!

Offline So, I’m going to be ranking the songs from worst to best, but I’ll let you all know that I don’t feel that the songs that are lower on the list are bad songs. The entire Sergeant Pepper’s album is magnificent, and all of the songs are fantastic. I just feel that some of these songs are better than others…
13. Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise) – This song is a different approach to how the Beatles originally recorded the song (which I like much more), but it does give a burst of energy going into A Day In The Life . All in all, its a repeat of a song.
12. She’s Leaving Home – A great song, but it just doesn’t seem like it fits with the rest of the album.
11. Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite – I was never a fan of the fairground theme, but it is impossible to deny Emerick’s technical expertise on the effects. I also appreciated the diverse word choice of the lyrics (even it was almost copied word for word off of a poster).
10. Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band – An explosion of enthusiasm that kicks off the album well.
9. Fixing A Hole – I really do enjoy this song, especially Paul’s voice at “where it will go”. Overall a great psychedelic sound.
8. Good Morning Good Morning – The sound effects were superb on this album. John’s sarcastic tone as he drawls on about everyday life is interesting. And the animal noises at the end were a nice touch, although I don’t hear how it sounds as if it’s arranged like the food chain like John said.
7. When I’m Sixty-Four – Paul’s tribute to his father’s love of 1920’s dancehall music is a favorite of mine. Paul’s voice sounds so young; it’s incredible to believe he wrote it at age 15.
6. Getting Better – A nice reference to the Beatle’s world tour in 1964. It’s also interesting to hear Paul (“A little better all the time”) and John’s (“Can’t get no worse”) personalities juxtaposing each other.
5. With A Little Help From My Friends – Ringo’s voice is so endearing. Just as we can not get along without our friends, Ringo could not get by without John, Paul, and George.
4. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds – This song is so trippy, and John’s voice sets the mood of the song, as well as transports you to the world of cellophane flowers and newspaper taxis.
3. Within You Without You – A truly underrated George song. His interest in Eastern Philosophy is apparent in this tune, as well as many of his songs from that time.
2. Lovely Rita – One of my favorite songs by the Beatles. Paul’s deadpan voice only helps to bring out the humor in this song, which makes it even better. John and George’s backing vocals are heavenly.
1. A Day In The Life – Where can I even start with this one? It is the crowning jewel of their career and could have easily been a good way to end their time if they had decided to end after Sergeant Pepper’s. From the first few strums of the guitar to the crescendo of the orchestra, we were all mesmerized. John’s ability to make a song out of everyday stories astounds me. Paul’s verse provides a good snap back to reality before we return to the etheral, dream-like state of John’s soft voice.

Offline @glazball I think you’ll like the 50th anniversary remix. I know I certainly do. I won’t spoil what it’s like, but you’re in for a treat and a good time when it comes.
I’m also very excited for the White Album one. Perhaps it will make me like the album even more! What I’m hoping for most, however, is some stuff from the Let it Be sessions and the rooftop concert either in 2019 or 2020.
