I wonder if they were thinking of “rubber” as in
or as in the American meaning of the word?
You didn’t think I’d really put a picture of one of those here. Right?

SG have you ever held a UK Rubber Soul LP? They are very glossy looking, whereas the US albums are nowhere as nice looking.

Maybe it’s because I’m partial to the ‘originals’ or everything, but I like the best. The US onelooks like the UK one has been left in the sun too long and faded.

No, that’s interesting. I do have a rather tattered US Revolver LP cover (no record, just the cover).

It’s sort of explained in Anthology. Paul starts telling how the photo happened at 7:16, and at the end John says something about the title, though not a whole lot.
P.S. Oh, I’m at the Palladium now. I’d barely gotten used to arriving at Abbey Road …!

This has to be my favourite Beatles album cover. I love it. The choice of outfits is brilliant as well. Of all the Beatles t shirts I own,my Rubber Soul shirt gets worn most. I even have the cover picture as my screensaver on my laptop. Originally, I was going to choose the pic as my avatar on here, but I saw @meanmistermustard had already chosen it

Got to my favourite Beatles album cover design-wise.
Definitely gorgeous, but Revolver is just stunning.
There’s something about the colors and shades used in the cover that I find aesthetic.
Definitely. The cover of Rubber Soul makes me appreciate green and brown so much more.

It fits so nicely with the sounds on the album as well. Very mellow.

I can never decide if album covers fit with albums or I’m just used to them going together.

I think it’s a little of both, but I’ve definitely seen some covers that didn’t quite fit with their albums as much as I’d have liked.

I think I am guilty of that, given that I associate Revolver with starkness and the avant garde, while associating Pepper with technicolour vibrance, despite there not being that much difference in sound between the two. Rubber Soul definitely fits its cover colours though.

Interesting — to me, Revolver sounds vastly more technicolour, despite its monochromatic packaging, whilst Rubber Soul sounds more acoustic brown and green (not just because of the cover). They sound distinctly different to me, even though there are obvious similarities.

Same here.
Also, Rubber Soul has a lot of green/brown in its song titles, while Revolver has a bit more variety. (And also a strangely large amount of yellow.)

That’s the contradiction of Revolver and the White Album , the music is so diverse yet the cover is so plain (in terms of colour scheme anyway). I think it works better for the White Album than Revolver , though I do excuse the latter as a) the cover is awesome anyways and b) there are definitely avant garde elements to the album and songs that suit a stark colour scheme like For No One and Eleanor Rigby .

To me, Rubber Soul sounds orange and green. Bright and lush, full of life. I guess the sun and green grass.

This reminds me of associating specific albums with seasons. Most beatles albums default summer for me. With Rubber Soul standing out as a fall album. White Album too seems very winter and possibly A Hard Day’s Night . Sgt Pepper ‘s is extremely summer. Anyway I haven’t thought about all the albums like this, but it’s interesting.

Agreed. In my opinion, BFS is late autumn/early winter as well, and MMT is very spring. WTB could also be winter, maybe late winter.

Let It Be is a winter album for me, because the title track and The Long And Winding Road sound very christmassy. Also I associate it with the wintry conditions on the rooftop.
